Documentary which traces the story of Live Aid from its humble beginnings, a pop tune cobbled together in the back seat of a taxi, to the eve of the biggest televised event ever staged on both sides of the Atlantic.
Against the background of Thatcher's Britain, one scruffy, fading rock star - Bob Geldof - recalls how he and his motley band of pop idols, rock and roll Del Boys and unpaid do-gooders tried to pull off the impossible - a global televised concert, never before attempted, to save the lives of the starving millions in Africa and force the Establishment to sit up and take the problem seriously.
With only weeks to go before the big day, Geldof had no stars on board, no line-up, no broadcaster and no venues - all he had was a date in the diary. The film tells the story of the race against time to put together the biggest event in pop history. Geldof remembers how he blagged, bluffed and lied to coerce the biggest stars of the day, while they - Elton John, Queen, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, U2 and others - recall how they finally buckled under the pressure.

For anyone who has a dream that others say you should forget...watch this...it is one of the most inspirational things I have ever seen; love or hate him, who else could have done this...watch before you answer. His conversation with the King of Ethopia...you cannot imagine it! Thank you Bob...no saint, just a man who had to do something.

The biggest, bestest, most worthiest, brilliant concert of all time. So many amazing performances. I watched this at home and my abiding memory is going out as a 9 year old and hearing Live Aid on every street, every house no matter where you went. There was nothing else on. Nothing ever like it since or after and watching it now with my 4 month old son even he is transfixed by the performances (U2, Queen and Elton John) are his favs. Why don;t we do this thing now.....makes my cry....and not tears of happiness.

What a fab fab day. I was just married 25 yrs old decorating our first house in a bikini. Beer can in hand, blistering hot weather. Running up and down the stairs in between paint coats just so I could watch all the bands. Just amazing. I bloody slept like a log that night hahahaha!

Live aid was EPIC, and Bob should take a lot of the credit but not all of it, MIDGE URE really was the guy in the background making it all happen certainly on band aid and Bob said so himself he also said that If MIDGE had said no then Band aid would never of happened SO NO LIVE AID THEN, I am so glad it happened though.

@killerqueen501 Geldof is perhaps the best diplomat and charity man in history. If YOU raise more money, then you're at the same level and yu can criticize him. Till then, SHUT YOUR GOB ABOUT THINGS YOU DON´T KNOW ABOUT!

I feel sorry for zeppelin tho, but the point to the event was about the starving in Africa and i quite liked the atmospheric build up,there presence was felt..I’m not a musician but it would of been cool if they just even did a semi acoustic version of stairway.. and then appeared as special guests throughout also maybe hopped on that concord with Phil Collins and Just played just one more suitable track in Philadelphia..I still think they were cool tho

@killerqueen501 Hate to piss on your chips, but BG got rich from Planet24 (which brought us, amongst other things reality TV show Survivor - imagine how much that sold for). The original melody for the song (according to MU in the 1995 BBC doco) was Bobs, I recall MU described it akin to the ZCars theme. Whilst I agree MU had plenty to do with it, I think you really need to slow down on the Bob-hating. It makes you look a little uncharitable to the point of misanthropy.

You have to laugh, Thank God Its Xmas song is god awful... but look at the amount of "stars" of music of that time and not one of them stood up and said..." this is crap we should do it like this....". Also, why is he producing it, cos it's not his song it s Midge Ures. Midge is the musician, Geldof was just fame hungry.
