Former ballerina Ashley Benefield is accused of killing her husband, Douglas Benefield, in September 2020. The Florida couple were in the middle of a heated custody battle when Ashley shot Doug. Prosecutors believe Ashley murdered Doug so she could gain full custody of their young daughter, however, Ashley claims she shot Doug in self-defense after months of alleged abuse. The medical examiner does not believe Doug was facing Ashley when she fired off four rounds at him.

She didn't say that she was trying to get "Doug" help. She was apparently afraid of him and didn't know if he was dead when she ran out of the house. So, I'm assuming she was running to get help for herself.

All I’m going to say is any man that knocks an innocent dog out by punching him in the face, slings a cat down the stairs, punches holes in the wall, waves a gun around at his wife shooting into the ceiling, marries a woman after 13 days before telling his 15 yr old daughter who recently lost her mother ……. is a real prince of a guy🤮. This man was an abusive control freak, and wanted an extremely young trophy wife to bully! I’m not a victim of DV, but I don’t need to be to know when a man is a violent person who doesn’t respect women, and I’m not even bringing up emotional abuse that his texts seemed to indicate as well.

I zoomed in and not one single tear. Also, when one is crying with tears rolling down the face, it's almost an instinctive reaction to wipe the face, chin, nose, etc because the feeling of non stop tears is bothersome. She is sniffing with a dry nose and, at no point, she wipes her face; only when she's told there are tissues and then she remembers to pretend to do it. Im sorry but this lady isnt upset by what she did. It’s an act for the jury.

I thought the state would have a better case then they've presented so far. The defendant had some convincing testimony and evidence of her husband's anger management issues and misdeeds. I don't know if she planned this but the victim is not a great guy. First, punching holes in the wall, the gun shot to the ceiling, putting tracking device on her car, and the text message from the ex-wife about him kicking her and lying paints a bad picture. Also marrying someone 30 years younger after just 13 days is insane. Add to that, he didn't even tell his child who recently lost her mother that he was getting married. Finally, the animal abuse is beyond disturbing and speaks volumes. I'd say there is reasonable doubt. I wouldn't be surprised with a hung jury. Either way, I feel really bad for the victim's daughter who has lost both parents.

It is interesting to see two female prosecutors in a DV case like this. The "victim" shot a gun in the ceiling of their home while irate; punched the dog so hard it was unconcious; punched holes in the walls of their home; put a tracking device on the defendant's car without her knowledge and stalked her; and committed DV against his prior wife. It leans towards the defendant's perception that she feared him, and feared for her life. A definite tragedy, for all involved.

Those were unproven allegations by a woman who was seeing someone else and wanted out. The Victim was very happily married before he tragically lost his wife, there was never any type of violence in their relationship, so now, suddenly, he is violent? Just because she said he did things doesn't make it true. As a matter of fact, other judges have ruled against her lies claim he poisoned her, yet, the doctors who did tests on her and the baby, said no, they were not poisoned. She also claimed and accused him of being a cocaine abuser, guess what???? No cocaine in his system. There are absolutely no photos from the investigations of any holes in the walls.

This comment is exactly why women end up dead after trying to get help through the police, the courts and family services, because nobody believes them. What does a woman have to do? She had marks on her body and face where he had physically attacked her, he threatened her, he had previously thrown things at her, abused the dog, shot the ceiling...what says she is lying?? A woman in my city is dead after she texted the police hotline that her husband was trying to kill her...and they let him go. He went back and shot her dead in her backyard. What will it take for women to believed? I never reported my DV because I knew I wouldn't be believed.

I think they were / are both terrible, self-serving, image (whatever they define as image) driven, toxic aholes. So no wonder they acted and „communicated“ the way they did! She did not defend herself, she played a power game with another toxic human being and “won” (in her parasitic eyes) the game. The jury will show her that actually they both together with their offspring lost. And all on other people’s dime (the investors, the mother, the taxpayers). I think that only truly oblivious, self-enamored, low lives like she are under the impression everyone else has such an unsophisticated inner life and life experiences that such an act (that ducking voice tone, man!) is compatible with recognizable human reaction.

Her testimony seems more like she’s afraid she’s getting caught. At first I felt sorry for her, but as she’s being cross examined, another side of her comes out. Even though she’s answering questions in a very meek way, her answers are sharp, strong and intelligent. She’s not giving the prosecutor an inch. IMO, her wounded puppy demeanor is just an act. It doesn’t match the way she’s answering tough questions.

@@makamurphy I agree. I’m a DV survivor, and found what she was saying in her testimony as right on the mark. But she also could be telling my story. What I’m getting at is she’s had years to research and make her story sound like DV. But when the prosecutor began cross, her story fell apart. It was clear that her testimony was lies, lies, lies.

@rhondaring8751
@rhondaring8751 Ай бұрын
At opening statements, I was leaning to guilty. During the prosecutions case I was reminded of my very personal connection to her position. I’ve been afraid of someone that had never hit me. I’ve lived in anxiety and fear of a partner. He was volatile and on speed. (He was absolutely not this person before he moved in) It came to a head and the police were called. I received absolutely no relief from LEO’s, was told even if he set the house on fire to gain access but it would be me arrested.(23 years ago). I was afraid for myself and my kids (they were not his kids). So, I rented a house 2months rent, last & security deposit. I had a 2nd car, and GAVE it to him. I emptied my entire savings account to furnish that house, and mailed him a postcard, establishing residency. And I never moved in with him. It’s what I had to do to protect us. So, I had to be an actress. Go along to get along for 4 months. I could relate, and thought about what it might have looked like on the outside to LEO’s friends & family. However, they lived in different states for 3 out of the for the 4 years they were married! She left, there were RO’s but yet she continued to lead him to believe that she & he were on the road to reconciliation several times over the 4 years! My rule of thumb is if either party is so angry that they feel the need to break things, to put holes in the wall, SHOOT A GUN into the ceiling, this is freaking toxic! LEAVE!! Don’t get a vasectomy reversal, and get pregnant!! And you definitely don’t KILL SOMEONE!! Her testimony proves the states case IMO.

It must be awful thinking over exactly what happened. The poor man was shot in the right side as he was turning away from her and he was shot in the back of the leg. Where does that suggest he was coming at her? She didn’t want to have him in her life and share custody she wanted him out of the picture. Amazing that he appeared to have a normal life with his first wife and his daughter. That poor girl his daughter from his first marriage this must be horrendous for her hearing this nut job make these accusations about him. Ashley had a scratch he has a whole in his chest and is deceased. I think she should stick to ballet as acting really isn’t her strong suit! 😢
