I worked on this movie. This is absolutely insane. I’ve worked with Justin on many projects and when he called me in to help edit some of the most intense scenes he called me and not only because I’m a female editor, but also a R@pe survivor. He had already one female editor on board, but wanted a second female interpretation/understanding of. None of this makes any sense to me. All you have to do is take a look at his track record.- the man has been advocate and voice for the sick, the dying, the women - and mostly, if you listen to his TED talk, on how to be “ man enough” to stop the toxic traits. Was I with him on set? No. But I witnessed how much she wanted to water down what the movie was actually about. She made it very apparent that if the movie was not shaped the way that she wanted it to be that she would not give it the promotion that it deserved. The only reason Justin took on that project was to share the message of the book. He was never meant to act in it… That was the writers request/decision. He is a philanthropist, a devoted husband and a loving father. This is not one of those cases where things from his past are going to pop up. He’s actually one of the good guys in this makes me so sad for him and his family..

I have a couple of issues. Blake used the campaigning of the movies to promote her skincare line, fashion choices and haircare. I was appalled. Justin took time to promote resources to help women. He has years of a constant track record of helping underprivileged people with healthcare reforms, speaking up for women, he's talked about his experiences with sexual assault and abuse (he has been r@ped). He has organizations that help people out of domestic violations relationships and situations. Blake lively has a haircare and skincare line. No track record of helping speak up for women or women's rights. Justin does. With all of that said I have not met either party. I don't know what happened behind closed doors. I do know from listening to Blake (HERSELF) that I was extremely disappointed about how she talked about the film. This was an opportunity to help women. Women who are never heard, believed or understood. She chose to talk about her clothing, skincare and haircare. She made that decision. If Justin did do those things he's accused of, he should be held responsible & accountable. His platforms should be taken away. But lets remember the intention behind creating this film. It was to help women and Justin did set up organizations to be able to achieve that. Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively did not.

@@whitneyhall2443 was that genuine from JB or an attempt to make himself look good probably knowing this was coming. I don’t know and nor do you. Blake and Ryan do a lot for charity as well. Blake promoting a product at the same time as movie sounds like a very smart business move and I doubt she is the first to do it. I worked for a DV organisation that had male ambassadors - men telling men to stop violence against women and children. Do you know why that ambassador program ceased?? More than half the so called ‘ambassadors’ were found to be DV perpetrators. I think you only need to know Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, they’re the main people because they’re the celebrities and there’s the most information about them out there (not that this whole story is out yet, now with this lawsuit). Blake Lively is an actress in tv and movies, and her “claim to fame” was the TV show Gossip Girl, Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, and Green Lantern. And Justin Baldoni was in a few TV shows and a couple movies before this movie they’re talking about. His “claim to fame” was the tv show Jane The Virgin. This movie they’re talking about is based on a book, Andy understanding is that the book is about a woman experiencing domestic violence and getting through that. And Justin plays the abusive partner and he’s also the director. Interestingly I don’t remember it being said in this lawsuit but Blake was supposedly a producer on the movie as well which may be another factor in why she didn’t just leave the project.

Regarding the question of whether she could or should have just left, gotten out of the contract, etc : why is it always the woman/victim who is expected to take the career hit or otherwise give up the endeavor at hand instead of being able to expect people to act appropriately, especially after they've been called out? These people could have simply acted professionally and decently instead of being abusive, hiring flying monkeys, and retaliating. It's not rocket science to know how to behave and people know they're wrong doing this stuff!
@Oops_All_CrazyСағат бұрын
That's just how locus of control works. Generally we can control our own behavior but not that of others, so our brainstorming of solutions naturally runs toward what actions can be taken by the person who has indicated there is a problem. Sure, in any given situation it would be best if everyone acted so the situation wasn't an issue in the first place, but that's a useless truism.

But then she said all of her points were abided by… My question is that if there really is a smear campaign but all they did was pull up a whole bunch of real content that she actually said on social media, is that actionable? I do think there's some dogpiling, and there's rarely any way to know EXACTLY what happened-with most things in this world, the truth often lies somewhere in between two opposing perspectives. But ultimately, Lively said what she said, and if she's mad that people are going back and finding a bunch of interviews that don't show her in a favourable light, it's because there are a bunch of interviews that don't show her in a favourable light to be found (...and it extends beyond this press tour, so you can't blame it on guidelines established by the studio). There's a fine line between harassment and holding people accountable for their actions, and with celebrities it's almost always going to slip into the latter because the internet is the internet. But at the same time, the fact that some people take it to the extreme doesn't mean celebrities should be excused from legitimate criticism.

It sounds to me that the information provided regarding the issues, the complaints, the agreement to the complaints and subsequently the comment that the agreement was mostly honored for the remainder of filming, was to set the stage for the foundation of what they’ve done to manipulate the outcome of this information coming out of what was initially done on set. Personally, if found true, all of this needs to come out. I personally am sick of being manipulated by media. I’ve noticed negative media about BL a lot lately. If found true, this particular film is exactly when these details need to be made known. I guess it all remains to be seen. I will say that He lit the match but we will see.

Thank you Peter for covering this so in depth. My opinion so far half way thru that two things can be true … I read the book and felt it seemed like many that read it after second look it may have glamorized DV. There’s actually some KZbin people that discuss the books … had little interest in the movie and no idea about this feud nor follow either on any social media - saw BL promoting the film all like someone on the Live said bubbly and it’s a girl film and also side promoting her beverages and was so confused like what ?? This misses the entire point. Then did see that old interiors where she was very rude .. knew nothing about Baldoni .. few days ago watched the movie and was impressed bc felt it showed the severity of the DV much better than the book … also some changes and while not Oscar worthy thought was pretty decent and curious bc he’d heard rumblings of creative differences. And wow this is so eye opening how easily we can be manipulated- If this is true it appears the complaint then was not that his behavior didn’t change post the big meeting - rather the PR campaign to destroy her reputation and career bc 1. How she May bad mouth him 2. How she was a prompting the film 3. So he took extreme nasty preemptive measures that sound insane … anyone ? Am I understanding this correctly - Guessing there will not be the sequel ….

I started working at 14. I’m much older than that now. What I’ve learned about workplace relationships is that two people can work together as long as one is sane, even if the other person isn’t. When you put two narcissists/egomaniacs/nutjobs together, that’s when somebody ends up in court or in front of a labor judge. Not saying that’s the case here, but I see many of the hallmarks and signatures.

I HAVE to believe that the people commenting negatively against Blake about this law suit, haven’t read the filling. I simply can’t bring myself to believe people would read statements about how they have been manipulated to believe one thing, and then doubling down on the thing they know they’ve been manipulated to think. Sure, maybe he’ll come out with just as damning information. But it is WILD to throw yourself behind either party and go out of your way to bully the other party, all without all the facts. Someone promoting a film in a way you deem inappropriate and being rude to a reporter once, is not even on the same plane of existence to some of the stuff she’s accusing him of.
@7ChakrasTarot3 сағат бұрын
Accusations are exactly that. She is creating retrospectively a character profile that potentially doesn't exist. This is a hammer throw to once again make herself centre of attention and numero uno. Video evidence of her terrible attitude towards the mental or emotional wellbeing, career and achievement of others is all over the place

Soooooo.... why did she stay and put up with this??? It's not like she's new to the industry and afraid of losing future gigs. it makes zero sense that after that July 4th meeting she would have continued putting up with, what she describes as, abhorrent behavior as well as sexual harassment in the worst possible ways. He bit her? Walked in on her nude and was looking at her after she asked him not to? She agreed to film a birth scene while almost completely nude?? Sounds more like a willing participant who now wants to say all of these things to try to get everyone to overlook the negative press about her. But the negative thoughts about BL are NOT new. She has had a diva rep for a long time.

I think when a lot of folks ask themselves, like Peter does multiple times, "Why would she go through with this?", they really fail to grasp just how big Colleen Hoover books were at the time, holding multiple positions on the NYTimes Best Sellers list. It was a phenomenon brought on by booktok and quarantine that revived the book industry. The film's gross passed a billion dollars worldwide. Thats why she put up with it.

The context that isn’t reflected at all in the lawsuit (not that it would make sense) - is that there is going to be a sequel film and Blake is going to be starring in it. The character Justin plays in this movie won’t be in the next film (bc their characters end their relationship in the book and movie). The argument from Baldoni and the studio’s camp (which isn’t clear from her lawsuit what exactly the content of the negative press was claiming) was that Blake Lively wanted to water down the DV and trauma elements of the movie and make it more light and fun. She claims that he decided only bc he was forced to stay away from her, to completely shift to a new PR strategy that only he would follow, where DV and spreading awareness about solidarity and resources, etc. is the focus of the press junket - all bc he needed to come up with a reason why she won’t be spotted anywhere with him or do any press with him. She was an exec producer on this film, and has her own management and PR people - but she was the one on a tone deaf press tour, and it turned everyone off. Baldoni’s people seem to have really effectively amplified the reactions to her, bc Baldoni saw this lawsuit coming bc he says she was threatening to basically sabotage the opening by shirking her role in its promotion entirely by refusing to do any press at all. As she said, they agreed to the guidelines in January and she said it all wrapped up safely and the movie was a success - how did Blake think press would be handled regarding her, when she refused to be seen with Justin and they needed to be prepared with an explanation for that, as she wasn’t offering one at the time, she’s offering it now, but it seems that the PR campaign is what she had issue with, more than the harassment alleged

He unnecessarily added a sex scene of a minor, ect. I do believe both things, she’s a mean girl and he’s a creep. Getting his friend to be the OBGYN, him making her give birth naked on scene. This stuff is evident, not hear say. I think he’s a creep, and she’s a mean girl. Neither is okay. This whole thing just makes me feel sick to my stomach. Hi Peter, This feels like a step to re-build her image solely. It really isn’t a stretch to think that a celebrity has an attitude. When I saw the resurfaced interview with Parker Posey it did show a level of self entitlement, and mean. I also have no difficulty seeing that some sort of inappropriate conversation occurred on a set. It does not condone this behaviour. Will this help her? Who knows? My question is a simple one, why not just leave the r project, money is not a concern for her nor her husband.
