Really enjoyed today's show. Thank you for the distraction from the dumpster fire that is currently life in NSW Australia. Thank you for the pupdate - the most important (and adorable) part of the show. Really love the idea of doing lives for showing off new gear. Rick Beato has said that he does so many lives so he doesn't have to do the editing. ;-)

I have been following you guys for many years and you have brought great joy and profound knowledge into my guitar playing life. I wanted to comment on one thing that Mick touched on... the importance of the hands in playing. I wanted to add that the hands do many things that pedals and amps can't... such as vibrato, bends, trills, slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs, bends with vibrato, and a host of other small things that are all wrapped up in the term "expression". I listen for those things in every player.

I heard a podcaster say that George was having some serious trouble at home with Patti (in fact he claimed Patti left him for a bit while the documentary was being recorded - this was pre-Clapton) so that certainly played a factor in Georges mental state during the recording session. He had a lot on his plate at the time - let alone when you think about the fact he was only 25 at the time! By the way - I'm not a doctor - those are the first two initials of my last name! Cheers!!

SHOW IDEA- I think you could really help players understand dynamics , particularly in one of your live shows, by focusing on the extremes of feather light touch (Eg Gilmour style ,gently through a super loud rig...) vs the “digging in”/ “ hitting hard”, and how tweaks to the rigs help support one or the other, I’m imagining the thumbnail with Mick holding a feather and Dan wielding a hammer 🔨- just thought I’d share👍 love your work& am looking forward to the jam shows 😀🎸

George started learning sitar in 1965 and didn't really play much guitar for 3 years. He lost interest in the guitar during this period and that must be why he struggled a bit during the Let It Be period. He then gravitated towards playing slide guitar and by 1970 he'd mastered it. George's slide on Isn't It a Pity is really beautiful. His slide playing became his trademark really throughout the rest of his solo career.

I wasn't going to comment on broken headstock as I did last week, but as you mentioned it....if it's a clean break and no bits have splintered off and lost there's no reason that it can't be repaired to be as strong as it was originally , if it's a messy break it could nearly always be repaired but it may not be as seamless and may even require some strengthening splints.

D & M - I sent a super chat today, but for some reason the question did not show up on your end. I am looking for Flanger options that do not flip phase as I am placing the unit after my split in a wet/dry setup (Park 50 & Magnatone Varsity Reverb). I have tried the MXR Flanger, and a few others, and find these to be phase flipping. I realize that I can put these in a looper with a phase switch, but I am trying to keep the setup as simple as possible, and prefer to find units that do not affect phase. This is the quirk of wet/dry that has been quite irritating, but the benefits of wet/dry that I have discovered because of your show has made this quest worth it. For instance, the tried and true MXR Phase 90 - flips phase, etc…

Mick, do you think the Lonestar, is Boogie's attempt at a Dumble "style" amp. 20 years on I still struggle with this amp at times. I get it sounding great , then all of a sudden it can get boxy if you adjust tone controls. Maybe do a side by side with your Lonestar and 2 rock ?
@ThatPedalShow2 жыл бұрын
I think the earlier Mark series amps had more in common with Dumble tones. I know what you mean about the muddy boxy thing. Really cranking the presence helps a bit and going really easy on k Mids and bass, running the treble high. That can work.

I remember the media making a big deal about Phil Collins playing at Wembley, taking the Concorde across the pond, then playing at JFK in Philly. He is indeed a great drummer. But call a spade a spade. He completely ruined that Zeppelin set. It’s as if he couldn’t be bothered to learn the songs! And they were pretty damn iconic songs too. In fairness, the two drummer idea probably wasn’t well thought too. When you add that to what sure sounded like weird phase issues, it’s no wonder that Jimmy, Robert and JPJ want that audio buried forever. Such a shame too, because for many of us, that Zeppelin set was supposed to be the highlight of Live Aid. Was that really 36 years ago?!

Phil wasn't the worst of the musicians on that stage at that time on that day...... Jimmy could do with having a proper listen and watch of the footage also. I've watched it over and over, Phil isn't a million miles away from right, and wasn't the only one who came straight with R&R (which I believe had been agreed upon beforehand, maybe that was a bad decision... But Phil wouldn't have had a say in that, he'd just shown up). IMO if course, :-)

Question for Mick. Given the present condition, and a certain Beatles doc, I bought an offshore Casino. Watched your Lollar viog about a dozen times.. Is there anything you've changed or would change about that swap? Lollar recommends that if, on your guitar, the neck pick-up sounds too pronounced get the low wind for the neck and a regular for the bridge. Now here's the tricky part. The supplier I use stateside for vintage wiring also gives options on cap values and cap construction. What did you use ?
@ThatPedalShow2 жыл бұрын
Hello David. First off I would 100 per cent recommend the swap. There are people who prefer the duller tone of the original pickups, but for me personally the Lollars have turned a guitar I don’t want to play into one that I do. Now then, it has become one of the loudest and most responsive guitars we have, so maaayyyybe I’d go with low winds or 50s wind across the board, but that said I love playing the guitar and it definitely does a thing so no regrets! It might be sweeter with the low wind. I think it’s a good shout for the neck for what it’s worth, if you like slightly mellower tones there. Pots and caps and wiring, I used a harness that’s original 50s 335 spec. So 50s wiring, 500k pots and nice caps. I used a kit supplier here in the UK called Six String Supplies, but in the US you could look at Emerson, for example. Good luck man - genuinely turned this average sounding guitar into one that sits alongside anything else we have here! Cheers!
