Mr. Carey, I’m not sure about other pc builders or DIY’ers now. But, when I started out working as a helper in my uncles pc shop back in 2000. He always fussed me to insure ALL hardware was installed, fully seated, recognized, configured, cables managed properly, all the BIOS settings including the date and time set properly in the BIOS prior to attempting OS installation. I assumed then he was just being overly preventative of later issues and I listened to him always so I’ve repeated his practices for 20 years, now its second nature to do so as I was taught and I’ve never seen this issue because of how I was taught. Mr. Carey you have just made me realize just how smart my uncle was and how something simple can screw with a perfectly good set of components. Thank you sir for all your knowledge and experience.

Carey I have been watching your videos for a long time now, and love the channel. I very rarely get to watch Live but usually within the same week. Somehow this video passed me by. I am working from home at present, and able to have your videos on in the background (what can I say, your voice is soothing LOL). As KZbin is want to do it moved between Videos and somehow landed on this one... What can I say. The single best diagnosis I have seen you do, absolutely fascinating to see the process worked through to an unexpected but successful conclusion. Hats off to you sir.

Great video! Had to take a break or two to get to the end. I spotted the BIOS date when you showed it and thought that was the issue. Just built two UEFI Gigabyte Mobos with Ryzen XX00G CPUs recently. Hadn't built anything for about ten years. Wasn't familiar with the new technology like I had been. Your videos are very informative and fun. Keep up the good work.

Really enjoyed watching this. Your method is very similar to mine Carey... with the exception that I always go through the bios settings to make sure the customer didn't mess something up. I might not have spotted the date, but I have never seen a new motherboard with a future date, they're always set in the past some time. As soon as you showed the system time in the bios, I was positive that was the problem. However, after correcting the time, you then found that the installation of Windows was corrupted by the original time, so was then changing the date back in the bios. Great work!

I have just spent the better part of 4 enjoyable hours with you ... albeit 7 months later. This is my first time watching you. I am an Electronics Technolgist and problem solving has always been the favourite part of my job. I love the fact that you used a systematic approach to determining the root cause of the problem that your customer was experiencing. This is the approach I would use. You viewer are very quick, and saw the bios date might be an issue. Even a lot of their other thoughts were quite plausible. I am glad you didn't just except the fix, but continued to determine why and how it was causing the problem. Thank you.

Thanks Carey, fantastic video and I think one of your very best, congratulations! Been watching you for a year or so. The mere fact that you are never afraid of making a mistake or looking (momentarily) bad by solving this problem live, is a level of bravery I don't see very often anywhere, especially on YT, especially about tech stuff. I got a feeling you would've eventually seen that wrong date. Because you are not just solving the problem, you're also doing a live show...so, to me, you seeing that guy mention it in the chat is akin to seeing it on the BIOS screen, if your attention had been 100% on that alone. I've known that the OS time/date has to be correct because the browser won't connect to websites; but if the actual BIOS date is wrong - well, now I know. Man, pour yourself a beer or do whatever you do to celebrate! cheers

First-time viewer. I really enjoyed it. I came across the same issue way back in the late 90s. Luckily, once I changed it, it worked great, but it had me stumped for a while, too. Lucky someone noticed the date was wrong, which turned out to be the clue to the answer. Well spotted to whoever that was. Great live video Carey, I've been playing around with computer systems now for around 30 years and never get bored from learning and seeing this sort of thing happen and then getting resolved to a point that the problem can be replicated and understood. I've never seen this exact problem happen before and will never forget this one.

Wow! This was a good one. Keep me wracking my brain and trying to figure out why it was happening, very fun to see the oddball problems every now and then. Worked aircraft avionics systems for 21 years and occasionally we would run into "marriage" issues. Replacing 1 component at a time would not fix it, but replacing 2 components as a pair did. Shouldn't be that way, but very rarely it was. I was thinking along those lines until the line of logic surrounding the date was fleshed out.

I used to do phone system service on a large computer repair place in Houston Texas, they did work for most all the major sellers, the repair people were in a large open room, I spent alot of time just watching them work. I have never seen people work so fast. What I found amazing was they didnt use their mouse at all, they used their keyboard, and man they really typed there way through operating system or what ever really fast. I got to know one guy, I asked him why they didnt use their mouse, he said they were to slow, typing is so much faster when you know what your doing, you would see different information flashing by on their screens. They would repair around 20 computers a hour per person.

Thanks for an entertaining video!! It's good to see that other techies get weird faults too. I'm not an IT guy. I'm a retired aerospace tech. We had three BAC 111's on the squadron. There is a device called an Omega Navigator. There was a fault with this on aircraft 1. I replaced it with a new unit and the system worked. As we were short of spares, the faulty unit had to be repaired. I reprogrammed it in the workshop and refitted it to aircraft 1....it failed. I tried the faulty unit in aircrafts 2 & 3. It worked!!! When I put it back in aircraft 1, it failed! No-one could understand what the problem was so we had to put a label on it saying 'Not to be fitted in aircraft 1'. Go figure!!

I know exactly how you feel Carey. I worked for four years in radio. It is so easy to get frustrated and annoyed. BUT the way forward is to take each problem, systematically diagnose it by elimination, and treat each problem as a learning experience. You really need the patience of Job! But if you have that you can achieve and learn so much. However, there are times where you appear just to be going nowhere, and suddenly you find it. The most frequent comment I heard was, 'You're an engineer, fix it!' Ha, ha....hom, at one with the universe....nothing else matters!! Been there, done that.

Glad to see Carey I am not the only one having trouble putting in the ATX connector. Though having trouble with cable management on one of my builds at the moment. One system is neat and tidy the new build has no room for cable management, that is only due to receiving an M-ATX case had to swap it with an AVP case, waiting for health situation to improve before ordering a new case. This build is weird in a strange way, your having the same issue I just had with a build.

Fantastic troubleshooting video Carey! Perhaps Linda could edit from 2hr, 40 minutes into video, for a shortened up version with the summary from you, explaining how the BIOS year 3029 corrupted the Win 10 installation and how that corrupted install causes the BIOS year to be reset to 3029, even after it had been manually changed to 2020 and saved in BIOS. Some thanks to the chat members mentioning the BIOS date, would probably be appreciated.

I have been in computers since 1975 and I still see things I have never seen before. I won't guess either. Carey, be glad you don't do work for large international tech companies...lol. Dealing with customer service warranty work. 9 times out of 10 they diagnosed a problem work. Order parts since they sent the wrong ones to begin with and usually they send the wrong part again. Oh, 99% of the time they send refurbished parts and often times the part is still defective. The stories I could tell. Good videos...I agree with you 99% of the time.

what a belter! I had a belter with my 3 com network card, on my server system. It wouldn't ping or let other systems connect to it, but it would send out IP Addresses. Changed the card and changed the drivers, still the same problem. I think happen to perform a bios reset, as the last call, and I noticed a feature that wasn't enabled, which was before. Something to do with PCI performance or something a long those lines. Anyway I thought lets see for what happens, so I saved the bios config, and let windows load etc, and then did a ping test, on my clients and everything worked, all connected! So I went back into the systems bios and wrote down what this feature was. researched it. I found out that the 3 com network cards miss behave with this feature enabled.
