Our live battlefield tour at the Trostle Farm for the 160th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg with Garry Adelman, Col. Doug Douds and Kris White. #gettysburgtour
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

You are world class historians and speakers. I look forward to the Gettysburg presentations every year. This is hallowed ground; sacred, defining, and meaningful to our wonderful county. Abraham Lincoln was able to define and seal the real meaning of the battle in 271 words in just a few minutes. He didn't make a performance and meant not to. Please keep in mind the sacrifice that individuals made there, "the last full measure of devotion". God bless you and keep up the good work.

What’s remarkable to me is the amount of noise people’s feet making through the grass modern day. Without the Din of war it’s a definitely a formidable forbidding noise

@@AmericanBattlefieldTrust I do hope so. Just recently became aware of a relative in the 1st VT Cav, that didn't survive the Action, one of the few enlisted killed outright in that attack.

Did the park service have to clean up after all that tea was spilled? 😉 Sickles (and his leg) were probably grave-spinning...

I think it would be interesting to know how many cannonballs and minie balls can be found in a 100 yd area of Pickett's charge

Years ago walking from Lee's monument towards the Emmitsburg road on newly plowed fields my son and I picked up 3 minies and a round shot so I would say there are still more.

I know they done a survey at Shiloh at the Hornets Nest one time to see how much spent ammunition they could find there.

There is a difference between farm woods with cows and firewood taken and wild woods where large creatures do not enter. My uncle had a wooded area with a creek fenced to hold younger cows before they joined the dairy herd. The woods were always walkable with trails in most places. My cousin has let it go the last 20 years or so and it has gone wild and summer it is hard to get around, trails are disappearing. These woods, a good part of 50-100 years of not having large animals and farmers in the woods, probably does not represent the farmers woods of the battle.

That photo of all the dead horses from the 9th Massachusetts battery at the Trostle farm is so haunting and heartbreaking. They certainly didn't sign up for it.
