Hi Emily..just a simple suggestion to keep the window on your wood stove clean..spray it with Easy Off oven cleaner when your stove is cold and wipe with paper towels.. works great.

If you don't want to use chemicals, or can't store them at the cabin because it freezes between visits, a fine scouring pad made of metal will get most of it off easily (curled wire, no stiff ends sticking out to scratch like with a brush).

That area really looks beautiful!! When I lived "way out" I promised to be prepared with enough wood for each season. BUT, each season I ended with cutting, hauling, splitting and burning in the same day. I never seemed to get that far ahead. Good luck to you Emily. Stay safe.

Here's a tip for the future of cleaning pumpkins or squash. Use a canning lid. Scrap it all towards the center then with a swipe of the center should all come out in one chunk. Works great on squash too.

Damn that's the same stuff i did on my pops roof, had to repair air vent and fix one of the solar panels. Two floor house, and the roof is kind of slanted, also the roofing is coated with rubber and is slippery if wet. I had to walk around the solar panels close to the edge of the roof, scary stuff gives off scared of heights.

Emily, did you know that you can use some of the wood ash as a paste to clean off the inside window of the stove door? Wet some crumpled up newspaper then some wood ash, rub it on the creosote window, thats it. Wait till the fire is out in the stove before you do this.
