You know Emily, I am more of a spring, summer and fall kind of person, however, this year has really got me down with all the snow. I have so many projects that I can’t get to that are being pushed back constantly because I’m clearing snow. So I stopped and looked at things one night after snow blowing for 2 hours and just sat there and thought…wow….this really is beautiful. So my projects are behind…..my toes are cold….my ears are cold and it just doesn’t matter anymore. There are so many people in such difficult situations all around the world and society seems to be getting more and more “up tight”. So I will take my lump of snow and my cold weather and embrace it because it’s beautiful and so much more that others around the world will ever have a chance to appreciate. Simply put we are thankful for everything we have and our way of life - even if we get more snow. Keep up the good work.

Ah, Emily! My wife says almost the same thing every day, as we enter the last third of Winter - "I hate Winter!" It was not always that way, not when we were younger, but with advancing years comes aches and pains and discontent. Enjoy the winters of your youth, and you will cherish the memories when you are in your 70's. Thanks for taking us along as you create YOUR memories.

Emily I came from a climate very similar to yours. Then I lived in southern California with it's Mediterranean climate for 40 years. Almost every day was sunny and 70F or warmer. I then moved to northern California with it's 4 season climate and have lived here for 24 years. I live 30 minutes from a national park with its 8,000 foot high mountains and its intensely cold winters. My experience with all this is that a balmy climate gets really old after a few years. At first its great...sunny days and warm temperatures. But before long it is just plain boring. Its the same thing day after day after day. No interesting changes in seasons to look forward to, no snow, no deeply breathing in fresh, cold, oxygen rich air that energizes you and makes you feel alive. I understand your not liking being cold. Been there, done that. But I learned that as long as you spend enough money to buy quality cold weather clothing, and as long as you make sure you wear it properly, you won't get cold.....don't take your gloves off, don't expose your ears to the cold. Your father has talked about this more than once. So yes there are inconveniences when living in your climate, but in my humble opinion, the rewards of doing so are well worth it.

I grew up in Southern Ontario (Cambridge), and even lived in Ottawa for 2 1/2 years - and I liked winter. But, for nearly the last 30 years I've been living in the sub- tropics and have not seen even one flake of snow. I think I'd freeze if I had to go through a proper winter now.

I live in a colder area, too, we got down to -22 F (-30 C) in December. But I still prefer cooler weather over anything above 90 F (30 C), because I can always put more layers on, haha. Aveeno Baby Eczema Nighttime Balm is the best all around hand cream I have found, and even helps itchy patches. It always amazes me how waterfalls seem to be falling in slow motion sometimes. Those shots of wild Canada are very well done. They make a great backdrop, especially the clouds and sky. I love sitting outside on a hill and watching the various cloud formations, how the wind takes them, and the subtle color changes. The deck on the place where I used to live had a great view of a mountain because the house itself was on a hill. I recall whiling away the time by watching the clouds zoom behind the peak on more than one breezy day. I really miss that deck because my patio now is covered, and the view of the mountain is blocked by a huge Best Western Hotel on a hill of it's own across the alley, haha. That closeup toward the end was of your sister, I imagine. She's a natural!

Emily, I totally get where you are coming from. I moved to the Idaho panhandle after 40 years of making Puget Sound my beloved home and while I love the spring, summer, and autumns here, I dread the winter. The dark, the cold, the seemingly endless snow makes me just want to curl up in a warm bed and hibernate thru the worst of it. I'm not as far north as you are, but I am likely as far north as I'm ever going to live, even tho I have given serious thought to expatriating to Canada (and may yet). And yeah, the freshly fallen snow is beautiful but it doesn't stay pristine for long, especially if one happens to be a "townie", as I am. Here where I live, while it hasn't snowed much since early January, there are still huge plies of dirty black snow all over the place, where it was scraped up off the roads and parking lots and piled up someplace else. These huge piles of black, dirty snow often don't completely melt away until late March or early April, and to me it's just depressing to see them, so ugly, all over the place. One of the things that keeps me going thru the winter in planning my planting schedule for when the days finally start getting longer and warmer (as they are now). Browsing seed catalogs, planning out my garden, planting seeds in my little portable greenhouses, celebrating successful germinations...these are the actions/events that keep my mind focused on what lies ahead instead of the relative misery of what I am currently experiencing.

Complete opposite here in Texas. I do love my home state where I was born and raised. But I would gladly switch places. I’m over it being sunny even in the winter, more than 300 days of sun. I’m tired of 3 months that the average is near 100 degrees Fahrenheit. I find myself happy whenever we get a cloudy or snowy day, which is almost never. The days that are really cold I always find I can put more on. But with the humidity killing even the respite of the shade you can’t wear anything that can cool you down quick enough.

There is no such thing as an easy life. We all have to deal with different problems. Last year we had a severe drought. It was terrible, our well failed. It was very hot, the sun burned the vegetables. There were forest fires everywhere. We got water from our neighbor for 2 months. We try to live life as it comes, in every situation. It is a challenge and we all will find solutions.

I remember complaining about another cold winter day to my 98 year old, critically ill grandmother, who never complained about anything. She told me to remember that "This is the day the Lord has made" and to be grateful to have another day to experience all the joys of life. It shamed me then and shames me now--enough that I try to live by her words and not complain when I am so very lucky. You are way smarter than I am to come to this so young.

I love winter because I tend to overheat during the summer. I live in the Minnesota, in the twin cities area. The back roads are a bear to drive on and the pot holes can, at times, make your teeth slam together. But the best part, other than the beauty of the snow and the crispness of the air, is the quiet. During the summer most people are out making noise till past dark. So with the cold they stay inside and I can enjoy hearing the wind and the wind chimes out doors. I do dislike the ice that settles in the backyard making it hard to walk cleaning up after the dog, but I bought spikes for my shoes and my cane. Now I feel steadier and love standing out at 1:00am and looking at the moon. It’s already February so soon the warmer weather will be here. Stay safe and warm. Oh…watching you ice skate reminded me of when I was a teenager and enjoyed that myself. Thanks for the memories. 😊

I am 100% with you regarding winter young lady. The big difference here in NW Pennsylvania is that we get snow and then it warms up and everything turns to slop and mud. Then it freezes, then thaws, then rains, then snows....wash, rinse, repeat. If it would just get cold, freeze and stay frozen it would so much more tolerable....

I've never heard of trails to ice skate on!! So hard to embrace a harsh winter. We're thinking of moving from our mild winters of far north California, but it's tough because going north means longer and more harsh winters. Our area has more sunny days than any place in Florida, so it's saying a lot that we might move from here. Our state is getting so difficult to live in and do business in. It's become crazy. I love your youth, strength and energy. God bless you, hon.

The moment I went to Florida for work the first thing I missed was the charging of seasons. I would describe it to lifelong Floridians and they couldn't comprehend it. Yet, to a transplant, no matter how unremoresful they felt, still yearned for the fall or snow. It was in their blood. The natives portrayed happiness to have never experienced cold weather but would always convey how nice it would have been to experience it.

So cool to see where you are at. I've been there. You'll see what I mean in the future. We go through stages in our lives where things affect us differently. I'm now at a stage where I welcome the winter and the cold for completely different reasons than I did when I was a little younger. Now I welcome it because it slows things down a bit. Just enough to give you footing. I think slowing down can be beneficial. Especially when it seems sometimes like life is a runaway train. Great video Emily, thanks for sharing. Good luck with your weather. There's a strong element of Canadians travelling South to Florida and the Caribbean - when it all gets too much! It was great fun seeing you pop set up your tent as I first acquired one of those, maybe 40 years ago, when a Canadian on an European bike tour was leaving the UK. I might even still have it up in my attic. I replaced the worn out groundsheet and kept the unique pull pop umbrella tent. I'd never seen anything like it at the time and while it was a good couple of kilos heavier, from the robust poles, additional construction, it's real value came from the outrageous ease of use. I used to get a thrill turning up at a campsite and bosh, bosh, bosh. One erected tent. Can't remember the tents name though...

Do try wearing the🙌cotton gloves and some the olive oil, cold cream, and or vaseline before you go to sleep. 👍🌅🏞️❄️⛄⛷️🎿⛸️🎣

When I was you age, I felt the same as you are with the winters in the upper Midwest where I was raised. I left and have lived in Southern California since. Now, when I want to see snow, I drive to the mountains for a day and come back to the warmth of the sand. Have to admit though, your area is very beautiful and a special place. Where I was raised offers the same scenery. I sometimes miss the winters there, until I walk out to the sand and hear the ocean.

I've been in Southern CA, moving from WI, since '82. Lived in Huntington Beach during the 80's, having the best of times, close to the ocean and pier..now living inland. But I did miss the winter activities I grew up with...skiing, skating, snowmobiling, ice fishing, making a snowman. I've gone back at least twice a year, fall and winter to do those things I miss. Still love every second of it. Enjoying your channel Emily. Cheers..

Greetings from Massachusetts, we actually have had no snow here yet, N.Y and Canada has it all. It's nice to see you at least enjoying yourself, maybe a vacation to a warmer climate might break up the monotony

I live in Mississippi but have a vacation condo in Orange Beach AL. Just got back from the grocery store and it looked like an old person convention. I’m old too btw. But it was packed with Northern snowbirds. Lot’s of people don’t like cold weather it seems.

I know you've heard the saying, "There's no bad weather, just bad clothes" but I do tire of the layering and bulky winter dressing rituals! It's true, though. One can have awesome times wearing what amounts to a space suit!! LOL. Hang in there, maybe start planning a winter getaway for next year! 👍🇨🇦😎🔥❄💃

Few hours south of you in Durham Region, we had one day of snow and one cold day. That's pretty much it... hopefully spring will start early, contrary to the groundhog's prediction!

You could move to Florida, take up Free Diving, and spear fishing. Though, like you, I do enjoy four separate distinct seasons. Spring is around the corner and is my favorite time of the year. Thanks a lot for the great video.

Emily, as I watch you in the video, I can feel what you feel. Here in idaho, this winter has been cruel, but I loved it. Your video is still soothing and calm. I see traces of your parents teaching on you. Great video, congrats!! Take care, thanks 😊

Visit Florida, no snow here. The humidity during the summer can be uncomfortable. Today's hi temperature in Tampa 82° "Fahrenheit. But florida is extremely crowded and the traffic is terrible every day.

Hi Emily, I have agreed with your sentiment for many, many years. So at 60, I finally moved to Southwest Florida. Every year I see more and more Ontario license plates, which warms my heart. There are still really inexpensive land here, (mostly central inland). So you could plan to be a “snowbird “ at some point in the future. Just something to think about. 😎🌴

😅 I'm the same Emily... I'm from South Carolina and don't really care for the cold, and yet I live in Iowa 🤷🏼♀️ Go figure! About now, when there's around 2 months of cold just lingering left, is when I start to get completely sick of it... So I understand. Oh! Little known fact: Shepherd's Pie is made with lamb, Cottage Pie is made with beef 😋 I love how you always show the Majesty of our Heavenly Father, our blessed Creator the I AM... LORD GOD bless you Emily 🙏🏼 All my love 💕

Weather is not in our control. Get some Aloe Vera and use that on the dry skin that's associated with winter. Works for me Take care
