One of the most dangerous conditions to navigate a ship is restricted visibility because of fog, heavy rain or dust storm. When the ship’s officer gets information regarding such upcoming weather condition, we should take all the necessary precautions to ensure that the ship sails through restricted visibility area without confronting any kind of collision or grounding accident.
Following all the important procedures for restricted visibility as mentioned in COLREG Rule -19 is mandatory. We monitor channel 16 in the radio and ensure that all important parameters of the ship such as latitude and longitude, time, speed etc. are noted in the log book.
Merchant navy has various departments & I am from the Navigation department. I have recently been promoted to the rank of a 2nd Officer onboard Maersk Ship.
Enjoy the video & don't forget to give it a big thumbs up if you found the video informative .
Also for those who are new to the channel - I am Karanvir Singh Nayyar , a second officer in Maersk , vlogging my Life At Sea Journey.
So don't forget to hit that subscribe button & turn the bell notification on ;) if you wish to watch my life from the 7 oceans in the world.

Great video. My ship was in a cyclone off the coast of Australia in 1985 when I was an officer in the US Navy. Very scary times, and those rolls reminded me of the days and nights with no sleep strapped in my rack. Listening to the creaks and groans of the expansion joints and hoping that she was well-built. And so she was. Thanks Newport News!

You flight attendants of one hell of a job on your hands too! Thank you for the sodas and hot pockets when the plane was having compression stalls and we had to fly one engine across the country. I didn't say anything to anyone, Because I'm sure that anyone that needed to know could tell something was wrong by their gauges. Besides, if anyone had overheard, It would only have served to spark panic. You guys did a great job of proving that it's not only a means of transportation, but a hospitality industry As well!

That was great video! It is so interesting to see all the equipment on the bridge and all the information it provides for navigation and staying safe. Yes, it's really amazing to think that the ships used to be wind powered only, without the instrumentation we see now. Thanks for showing us life at sea. The ocean looks so beautiful during those storms, it almost looks like it is a huge creature tossing the ship around. Glad it all went well and the ship is moored safely. ❤️

Excellent video on heavy weather. As a retired Navy submariner we were lucky as we could go under storms usually comfortably. But even at periscope depth you could rock and roll a lot. Also when operating on the surface in bad weather I concur that many would get fatigued by the rolling. Since subs were round hulled you had a tendency to roll a lot even in mild swells. I also found it hard to eat with all the rolling. Keep up the good work. Love your channel.

As a retired International airline captain I have found your videos very interesting and informative. I have seen my share of typhoons and hurricanes. Things happen much quicker in aircraft, but our approach to rough weather is much the same except for one crucial difference. The information gleaned by watching the sea states is something we don’t see. We only deal with clouds. They are also informative especially to the experienced pilot. We deal with fronts spotted on the horizon, but we deal, enter, or avoid them only an hour away from when we first spot them. In your case it is many hours, or even a day. I very much enjoy your videos.

Ships are something! I'm a ship lover I like ships a lot 🚢 ⚓️

Thanks! Great content as usual! Question: where are the other officers at on the bridge when you are filming? I am not a sailor and I don’t play one on KZbin but logic would dictate there would be more than one person manning the bridge during weather like that. Is this typical or do they hide out when you are filming? Thanks Karan!

Hi Karan. I appreciate the way you have presented the whole thing. I do have several friends and relatives from the marine background...some are in merchant navy and some on cruise ships. They never displayed any passion towards their jobs. They just were in for money. U have a great passion towards work and I should say photography as well. Your videos are very informative and educational. I also liked your kitchen and dining areas. Keep it up Karan. God bless you and your staff...rgds

I have no idea why this showed up in my feed, but this is one of the most informative ship life and management videos I've ever seen. Amazing information about the regulations and systems on board. What causes roll like that? Is it a harmonic sort of thing between the ship and swells? Any way to counter it with a course change?

Great, great video... Music was wonderful. 3 storms omg. You did a great job showing us. Let ask you, in rough seas do the containers shift any? Do you have warning signs if they do? Again thank you so very much for sharing and take the time to edit. It truly was worth waiting for this week. Mathew

Another great video karanvir!. I noticed when you went into the engine room the main engine sounded very strange. Was it making those noises due to being in ahead slow??.... great to see 3 cyclones do nothing to dull your enthusiastic stay happy demeanor. Stay safe, your friend from 🇨🇦
