Bringing up Timothy Olyphant without mentioning Deadwood or Justified is like bringing up Bryan Cranston without mentioning Breaking Bad just because it's Tv.

Olyphant is an amazing actor though mostly through his TV work in Justified and Deadwood as stone cold bad ass gunslingers. It baffles me how under appreciated i feel he is in Hollywood, also if you want to watch a criminally under rated hidden horror gem starring Olyphant, check out the 2000s The Crazies remake.

I'd like to point out that the "really obvious CGI" cars were actually NOT CGI. They really did throw an actual car on top of 2 other cars, then added green-screened actors between them. It's kinda funny how they spent so much money to wreck real cars to make that scene look real, only for everyone to bash the scene as "obvious CGI". XD

I think Timothy Olyphant was actually a more recognizable name when he was cast in Live Free or Die Hard than when Alan Rickman was cast in the original. Rickman was pretty much an unknown especially in the US when he was cast in Die Hard where as Olyphant was coming off the popularity of Deadwood. Although I understand why Decker wouldn't consider Olyphant that recognizable as he doesn't watch TV. Long pointless monologue over.

Never understood why after three movies, they replaced his iconic Beretta 92FS with a Sig Sauer P220, only to have the Beretta return in the 5th movie. I mean its a great gun but why? I don't remember them doing that to Martin Riggs.

I'm currently studying I.T. at college, and my networking professor made a point of talking about how this movie was the most accurate example of how hacking actually would work in real life. That's right: out of all the movies out there with hacking plots, it was Die Hard that actually got it right.

Kudos on pointing that out. I was about to, but I wanted to check the other comments first. Glad I did. I'm impressed how Hollywood finally updated their jet fighter tech and didn't cheese it like using a F-5 fighter and calling it a Soviet MiG (see Top Gun). Wait until Decker reviews the next Die Hard movie.

Well, doesn't make too little sense that the trigger for the computer bombs was on the delete key, as it's the delete in ctrl+alt+del. Y'know, the delete key that deletes characters in front of the cursor as opposed to the one more commonly labeled backspace, where the sole function is deleting text to right to left.

I actually really liked this movie! It was cool seeing the proverbial analog man trying to compete in the digital world. A lot of the plot points were convincingly scary enough "What if you called 911 and no one answered". And the new characters were fleshed out well enough for me. Now the Die Hard movie that came AFTER this one SHOULD NOT have happened. McClane went from an every-man to damn near an Avengers character.

Just an FYI.....Alan Rickman, Jeremy Irons and William Sadler were NOT big names prior to their roles in Die Hard 1,2 and 3! Scar was a Voice Acting role and Jeremy Irons had really done very little of note before Die Hard with a Vengeance. Alan Rickman was known mainly for the Barchester Chronicles - A British TV Series that I'm not even sure got shown in the States! William Sadler was an absolute nobody! Timothy Ollyphant was at least as well known prior to Die Hard 4 as any of them.

After watching your review and scrolling through the comment section for a bit, I've noticed a complete lack of love for Cyril Raffaelli. You called him hardcore parkour. Cyril was one of the twins in Kiss Of the Dragon with Jet Li. If you want to see him at his best, I recommend checking out B-13 and its sequel D-13 U. Cyril Raffaelli and David Bell work phenomenally together, and though both are French movies, they are dubbed in English also.

Yes, for sure. The original is one of the best action films ever made (perhaps the single best) and the first three sequels are very good fun. I'd honestly say you should watch the first four. The fifth one can be skipped, though. (And in fact, I'd actively encourage skipping it. It's that bad.)

MaximumMadnessStixon well I'm not a big fan of the classic action movie (like Rambo), I like more when they have a plot behind, like V for Vendetta or Crouching Tyger, but still Die Hard sound interesting I'll give it a chance and would watch the first 3

I never understood why they wrote John being estranged from his daughter, it just seems mean spirited but i guess they were trying to portray him as a stressed aging cop, who can't get a break. Then they did it again with his son in the fifth movie, who had to be a younger carbon copy of Mclane in case they want to do more sequels down the line 🙄
