A Good Day to Die Hard gives us two times the McClaines, nuclear weapons, Russian politics, and somehow this can only fill out a 90 minute running time. That's a great sign, isn't it?

... in fact it ends up in Ukraine (Pripyat), not Russia. Not something you're aware of in the movie, of course. One of the things that seriously bugged me is how nothing in this movie has consequences, which makes creating tension nigh impossible. Wounds that would one scene kill someone (and are pointed out in dialogue) are never referred to again, going into a contaminated area without proper gear is "okay", but most of all there is no backlash to the Moscow ring road getting wasted by an armored vehicle on a rampage and a military helicoper blasting the f•ck out of a Moscow landmark (one of the Seven Sisters). Believe you me, that minister would not be spending time walking majestically or getting a massage in those circs.

Actually Decker what they got wrong was claiming that it was neutralizing the radiation particles. What that chemical does is bind the particles to a heavier element so they'll sink to the floor. Its used for clean up of small areas affected by high radiation poisoning, and it makes it so you can breath without a mask, and "wash away" the radiation now on the floor. But that chemical is insanely expensive and hard to get a hold of. On top of that it takes a HELL of a lot longer than the few sprays they gave it.

Well he doesn't really like his father at the start of the movie so he tries to distant himself from John, so it's understandable he wouldn't go by John Jr or Jr, but as Jack which is often used as a nickname for John.

Die Hard 4 was great for many reasons, one of them was that it felt like a good place to end it. Yeah, you could keep going, but one of the implicit points of it was that this was the last ride of a guy whose time had long past. Part 5 is an ill advised coda to something that was already a coda.

i was so confused the first time i had ever heard him called Jack Kennedy... i thought it was the three boys: robert, theodore and john: bobby, teddy and... jack.... that was when i realized that jack isn't a real name that people give their child, it's a nickname for john, especially in childhood or to those "familiar" i presume that they chose to call the boy "jack" instead of "johnny" or "junior"...

Amazing; almost every word Decker said in the regards to the movie's quality was almost directly out of my mouth. On the whole, I'd have to give the movie a "Meh" at best, to a "Drudge" at Worst. Out of all of the Die Hard movies that weren't intended to BE Die Hard movies, how is it that THIS one feels the MOST like you'd expect those others to feel? The movie feels and flows absolutely nothing LIKE a Die Hard movie, and the forced nature surrounding the plot with John reconnecting with his Son, just seem like an arbitrary contrivance to FORCE him into the plot. All in all; this felt like a movie where all of the answers were effectively handed to both the characters AND the audience; which is NOT how a Die Hard movie works. Most often, when all of the twists happen, John is usually learning about them the same time we do as well. But in this movie...all of the main characters are established and both we and John learn about them through second-hand. And worse, they barely have any character to speak of. What's even worse is how unnecessary John felt for this movie. You could effectively replace him with some other Generic American Cop, and it wouldn't feel different. John MacClane is the guy who is constantly thwarting almost every step of the bad-guy's plans; he's on them like a bad-itch. This movie? He falls into a Trap, gets out of it, and proceeds straight to the climax, where he immediately learns the truth about everything. Even the action in this movie was tedious; it got to the point where during the first chase scene of the movie, I said, "This has gone on for too long."

DragonFoxx99 Kudos on the accuracy test. After Decker called the F-35 Raptor a Harrier in his Live Free and Die Harder review, I suspect he might misname the Hind gunship is this review. I was right. And as a side note, the gunship was a real Mi-24 Hind-E. It was identified in the Special Features on the DVD. Great job!!!

I had a thought on why Jack smashed the phone to where perhaps he thought the bad guys had tracked John to the safe house via his smartphone GPS.
