Noam: I love what you're doing over the course of these podcasts, trying to really tease out what is actually going on vs what you only believe because of your personal biases. This sort of search for the truth would be something I'd love to see a whole lot more people doing.

Why would anyone agree to only receiving 22% of their home????
@dannaturman1570
@dannaturman1570 5 ай бұрын
It would depend on what you mean by “their home”. Palestine is the name of a region slso known as the holy land, the land of israel and the southern levant. Before modern zionism, most of the land was ottoman state land. Much of it was and still is uninhabited (half of israel is empty desert). Some was owned by Jews. So if you want to talk about “Palestinian land” you must ask, would that include empty desert? Ottoman state land? Land owned by Jews? Areas of the holy land in which Jews are a majority?
@davidnguyen7891
@davidnguyen7891 5 ай бұрын
There were Palestinians living in the region, and Zionists expelled them from their homes. Fast forward to the Camp David Summit, now Zionists only want to return a fraction of land that they kicked the Palestinians out of. Ben Ami, formal Israeli Foreign Minister, has stated that if he were a Palestinian, he would not have taken the deal. Everyone knew that the Palestinians were going to get short end of the stick in this deal and were going to have to make massive concessions in this deal. Aaron Miller says it himself in the video - Barak came to make a deal, and Arafat came to "survive".

I guess pragmatism and bowing to the balance of power. At the time the PLO or palestinian resistance was of no match to the IDF and they were not a real threat.

The difference to Egypt-Israel accord: Egypt got all its territory back. Then there is the question about Israel and its relationship to international law, and then there is the question of gross mistreatment of Palestinians in both, the West Bank and Gaza. The living conditions in Gaza were atrocious because of the limitations imposed by Israel.

Yeah you forgot a few things too. Egypt doesn't bomb Israel every day for 50 years. Hamas dug up its own pipes Hamas hasn't taken any responsibility for its own refugees Hamas thinks its people should be martyred for them. But yeah israel is bad because they blockaded a region that voted in the goverment that wants to genocide Jews.

Israel and Egypt. You meant to say the limitations imposed by Israel and Egypt. So why aren't Palestinians storming south to rape Egyptians?

"Why don't they go to the beach ?". For how many days should 2 million people stay on a beach ? What was the point being made here ? How dumb.
@md85aus94
@md85aus94 4 ай бұрын
Well when an army says they are targeting hamas targets the beach is literally a few hours walk Max and no hamas targets exist there and a humanitarian column could quickly be make and a real refugee camp. Rather than the 10,000s who stayed in the middle of cities in " refugee camps" who are now dead for ignoring those warnings. That's fking dumb.

Noam: You probably should have interviewed Miller BEFORE you read those five books. Also, you did a great job with your recent Finkelstein piece. Next time, please arrange a debate between him and someone who is equally knowledgeable of the history and just as condescending.

What I'm surprised about is journalists as prominent and visible as Ryan Grim have gone all in on revising the history of negotiations with Arafat. It's like all the semi informed kids and anti-semetism-curious people online have everything they need to have a perfect narrative. And it's basically the default now.

Miller still wants to be Israel’s lawyer instead of an impartial player holding both parties in parity of esteem. Talking about this without addressing the injustice- the deprivation of medicine, food & water from an entire population is to be wholly in bad faith. Depriving over 2 million people of food & water is a genocidal act. Period. There is *nothing* that can excuse such an action. The lot of you are yesterday’s men.

If what Israel in Gaza is a "genocide", Hamas bears at least as much responsibility for the suffering of the Palestinian people, and probably a lot more. Let me detail the ways: 1) Hamas started this war by invading Israel on October 7 KNOWING FULL WELL THAT ISRAEL WOULD RESPOND FEROCIOUSLY IN A WAY THAT WOULD (INTENTIONALLY OR NOT) MEAN THE UNFORTUNATE DEATHS OF THOUSANDS OF INNOCENTS. How do I know that Hamas knew this? Because EVERYONE knew this. I knew it. You knew it. This tragic situation for Palestinians - the brutal siege, hundreds of innocent kids buried under rubble, families devastated - could be over RIGHT NOW if Hamas were to release all the hostages unconditionally and surrender. The power to stop Palestinian suffering is in Hamas' hands at least as much as it's in Israel's hands. 2) Hamas is using human shields. Just recently we've seen that they are firing rockets from area that Israel has deemed "safe zones" in order to force Israel into attacking those areas. This is a gruesome PR tactic apparently designed to increase the number of innocent Palestinians killed just to manipulate public opinion into forcing Israel into a cease-fire. Oh, and it's obviously working. 3) Hamas doesn't believe they have any responsibility to protect Palestinian lives. In an interview, a Hamas leader was asked why they had built miles and miles of tunnels but not a single bomb shelter to protect Gazans from Israeli bombs. He responded that since 75% of Gazans are refugees (a debatable proposition but let's go with it for now) it's the UN's responsibility, not Hamas', to protect them. 4) Hamas wants martyrs. They want dead Palestinians almost as much as they want dead Jews. They've said this many times. 5) Hamas over the years has a documented history of killing Palestinians. Even Amnesty International - which has documented issues of anti-Israel bias and potential links to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood - has felt compelled to investigate cases of the murder of political dissidents (and by the way, in 2014, a lot of this occurred on the grounds of, you guessed it, al-Shifa hospital). So are innocent Gazans suffering tremendously right now? Of course they are. And if it's fair to put pressure on Israel to stop that suffering - and most of the world apparently thinks it is - it's just as fair to put pressure on Hamas to release the hostages, surrender, and end this double genocide Hamas started on October 7 against the Jewish people and the Palestinian people. BTW there are links I could share to source all the allegations I've made but I've had comments deleted for doing just that, so I'll leave it to the honest readers of this comment to fact-check me for themselves, and see if I am telling the truth.

Any attempt to draw similarities between Israel and Egypt war with the Palestinian Israel conflict is dishonest and shows ignorance. Egypt as a result of Camp David got 100% of its land back. The two issues are very different from one another. Arafat has nothing to offer any Israeli government as he already made huge concision and agreed to only 22% of historic Palestine with East Jerusalem as capital no ifs or buts anything but that he would sign his death certificate. Israel is the one, in my opinion, who could not make historic peace and insisted on holding 8% or 9% of West Bank yet they gave 93% back. I mean REALLY !!!, you gave so much as 93% and short of 7% you decided no peace is worth taking and thus Arafat is not a man to do peace with? Israel intension is 100% historic Palestine and they killed Rabin and then Ariel Sharon because both were willing to give some land back to Palestinian an action considered taboo.

Several peace proposals (1991-2021) were introduced to solve the Israel-Palestine conflict. But none of these fulfilled these 3 requirements: border, right of return and security. Land Partition: Per UN1948, Palestine would get 42% land, but Palestine agreed to make a concession to receive 22% land based on 1967 border. Now, Israel needs to decide what will be their border. Right of return: All these 1948 Palestine refugees should get right to claim their lost properties in Israel or should receive compensation.
