The Indian stock markets have hit a rough patch, with Sensex and Nifty plunging 2% respectively since the beginning of May 2024. The market turbulence comes in the middle of India's ongoing general elections, a factor often associated with the mood of a country's equity markets. Reacting to the current market situation, India's Union Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar have said that the markets will bounce back after the results. However, there are other factors that could have contributed to this decline, too. Foreign investors are exiting the country's stock markets, with investments worth $2 billion being taken out in the last week alone. Being a neighbour to China and being more ethnically related to them, we may be unhappy with its current economic crisis BUT with its bullying actions in the South China sea, we are doing otherwise. We cheer for their economic predicament instead and wish for further downfall. However, we don't disregard the fact that our country, the Philippines is more aligned to the west politically and administratively. It is the democratic governments especially the western ones that have transformed China economically both with their investments to it and their economic format. It's time they show China who made it prosperous financially.
