Israeli forces bombarded areas of eastern Rafah yesterday, after negotiations for a ceasefire failed in Cairo. US president Joe Biden had threatened to halt some military sales to Israel if prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu proceeded with an invasion of Rafah. Netanyahu appeared to dismiss Biden's threat, saying that Israelis would "fight with their fingernails" if necessary. Israeli tanks have already surrounded eastern Rafah and started firing at the city. Fighter jets and attack drones are also constantly bombarding the city. UN agencies claim that around 100,000 civilians have already fled the city, anticipating an Israeli ground assault. Does Israel have the firepower to win this war without US weapons?
