Thank you, Joe Rigney and Desiring God for this teaching! Wow... so much truth in there. I'm so inspired to pick up my Narnia books now! I remember when the stories finally came to the big screen. I sat there as the credits rolled while tears rolled from my eyes. The best I can explain it is that I didn't want it to end. It reminded me of Heaven - our true Home and of Eternity. One thing I imagine that Lewis knew was that by wrapping truth within myth, one can access the human heart better. In my experience with the US military, it is so sad how many dead-hearted guys there are, especially around the infantry and special operators. Yet listen to the stories, the movies, the books they love - so many are so full of heart. And some have large collections of music - much of it that would stir your heart. And the more it's stirred in this heart-killing culture of ours, the more the eyes of the heart are opened to beauty, wonder, and we get a sense of Who We Really Are as we move closer to the God who created it all.

Aslan represents God. I love him, so captivating! Narnia is more than just a story...it’s a symbol. It’s a message. C. S. Lewis understood the Christian truth. God bless him! And thank you eternally for such an insightful analysis!!

Thank you. Wonderful. Lewis also said that the beggar doesn't say to the millionaire - "I'm as good as him." The beautiful woman doesn't say to the plain woman, "I'm as good as her." Men don't say to women, "We're as good as them." The pre-fall Biblical male/female inequality is as profoundly disturbing and unpleasant as poverty and physical deformity. However, it is not worth missing out on the relationship with Jesus because we are not God and do not have all the information.

I agree with you about most of this but... you kind of explained yourself away on the male/female authority thing. you know that thing you said about Lewis not describing how glorious or terrifying a thing is but making the audience see or feel it. Isn't that what authority is? Not to be told a man (or woman) has authority but to know? Anyway thank you Joe Rigney. You clarified a lot of things I've considered in a half thought. samargles, I really loved the part where he talked of the beauty of gender. Often I've spoke of it but feel like a lone wolf in a blind culture. It was so good for me to hear a man call it what it is, who clearly can see what Eve offers the world, yet I truly don't think many men can see who continue to stifle her voice and shut her out, sometimes shutting out God's voice through her. I think the younger men need it explained who may not look at Lucy so deeply, but I want to be seen as that and recognized that I'm different from a man and it's valuable to man and here's how.... I think our culture is so far gone that we need it spelled out to us. I don't know where you're from but I've spent a lot of time around Hollywood and I know very few men that live like what Joe Rigney described. Probably you don't need to hear it, but I guarantee there's a lot of other men that do. It gives a picture of how it is to look in action when their hearts have not come alive enough in their masculinity in this culture to where those actions can finally become natural, especially when it matters most.
