Love it when people actually sit down and dissect RM lyrics! I haven't seen too many people do it, they don't even understand the beauty of RM's lyricism and are just here for the views. This is the kind of ARMY, RM deserves to have, he'd be so happy to know he has fans that try to understand him.

I enjoyed your reaction. I also think this is largely about the dark side of fame, and how hard it is to stay grounded, not be arrogant and expect privilege and not to lose who he is at his core due to the demands of being "the leader of BTS." Also, the work they put in to get where they are - they yearned for fame and success, but the work (and all the things they can't control, like antis, discrimination, racism, etc.) burns him out. In general, they create the music they want - ARMY buys and streams to help make sure they can do that without worrying about keeping up with the latest trends or creating only "commercially successful" music. In my opinion, the "shackles" are more about what I talked about above...but, it's also always up for intepretation and application of one's own life experiences. Great reaction. I loved that you paid attention to the lyrics and coming up with some great interpretations of the lyrics. Just an FYI, RM and the other members of BTS have signed their third contract with their agency (each contract is for 7 years) and also no one and not even the CEO tells BTS what to do, I don’t mean this in an arrogant way. BTS alone brought an almost bankrupt company to a multi billion dollar corporation with 12 music labels between Korea, America and South America. BTS and its members make the decisions as to what they want to do and work hard to complete their projects. They are very respectful towards people they work with and give credit where it’s due. No over inflated egos and bunch of humbleness.

When the fireworks burn out, where do the embers fall? ("Where's my end finally gonna be?") Fireworks in Korean is 불꽃. This literally translates as flaming flower (the explosion in the sky) or fire flower. So in Korean, fireworks=flower-works. One of many interpretations: "Flower field, that's where I'm at" ....so if every idol (or artist) is a flower/firework, RM is one of many flowers in the field/fireworks in the sky. "Because I'll never be like them": Every person/flower/firework is different. So many more interpretations. RM's wordplay is amazing. 💜

Love the conversation about the lyrics. The great thing about songs is that once they are in the world they can mean different things to different people. See I think of the shackles of fame as the loss of personal autonomy. RM likes taking the bus, riding his bike, visiting art galleries he’d like to do that without all the public recognition. I think he’d just like to be a regular guy sometimes. Fames does have shackles. My thoughts anyway. Sometimes RM speaks about his writing but I can’t remember what he said about Wildflower. I found your insights and interpretations of the lyrics interesting. When you look at RM's lyrics in Korean, there are more double meanings and rhymes using synonyms, which don't fully get conveyed in the English translations. (For example, the lyrics translated as "when all this fame turned into shackles" - in Korean, the words for "fame" and "shackles" have almost the same pronunciation, differing only in one vowel sound.) All the songs on RM's Indigo album are good, but I also recommend "still life" which has an official music video. This song has a different vibe, so you can feel his musical spectrum. Or I'd recommend "Arson" or "More" by BTS's other rapper Jhope, or "Shadow" by SUGA! Thank you for your BTS reaction!! Have a nice weekend!! 💜💜

Love how you really delved into trying to understand everything. My thoughts on wildflowers and fireworks: When you look at a field of wildflowers, most people don't look at any flower in particular or even bother to name them. They're simply wildflowers, not goldenrods, black-eyed Susans, etc - thus nameless. Wildflowers are all about growing as they will only bloom for a short period just like fireworks disappear quickly. However, Wildflowers will come back, year after year although they will only be seen by most to be a small part of the whole field (even if some will call it beautiful as a whole). Fireworks leave an imprint on the sky for a moment even after they're gone, but even that eventually disappears. However, during their rise, peak & fading, they hold everyone's attention on them alone; Everyone is watching. Just some thoughts as I listened to your interpretation of the track.

7:32 "shackles" in this songs more relate to fame and that bts became so big, that fame often feels like shackles, they can't do anything normally. Label thing can be true to extent, but bts has freedom to create anything they want, so the analogy you made is not really relevant ih BTS instance but can be relevant to other musicians who indeed are stuck with over controlling labels But i would connect freedom to create with fame and status responsibility, maybe here fame shackles him, because he is expected by public to create smth specific. We as bts army, try always to ensure bts that they can create whatever they want, and i hope now after they did their solo albums and willcbe discharged military we will see full power of their artistry

I truly appreciate your interest and analysis of the lyrics, but maybe let a few more of them play before you try to grasp what they mean. A lot of the time, the next verse will add more context. RM said in a few interviews that wildflowers are rooted in the ground, calm, dependable, and long-lasting, unlike fireworks which shoot up in the sky, not tethered to anything; they burn bright with a flash and bang and also quickly burn out and fall from the sky. There is Korean wordplay that changes the word firework to flowerwork. 불꽃 (bulkkoch) = "Firework" ; 꽃 (kkoch) = "Flower"

Oh loved your reaction. This song is so fire and I think you nailed it. He loves nature so much and this was such perfection... the way he used nature and his constant struggle to stay grounded; to contrast the bright and stunning, yet quick to burn out, fires in the sky, part of his life that would be fame. This man has handled it all with the most impressive poise and leadership. Too much to put on a, then 17 year old. But if you haven't... it is a 47 minute guide, but we've seen probably 100 times but we will watch it again every time. It gives you a bit more understanding into the comments section with ARMY here and into what is behind some of the words RM and the others write. BTS started out as HipHop (2 underground rappers that had something to say) and backed by a guy who left the major label company in search of a better way for artists. They added vocals and choreo to HipHop at a time when that really wasn't done. As a result they were shunned by both the HipHop world (who considered them sellouts) and the Kpop world (who considered them too free and non-conformists to their ridiculous idol norms). So they said screw it, we'll be ourselves and do what we want. They did and they did it well, now the Kpop world try to emulate what they did, but still don't typically allow their idols freedom to participate in the creative process. Anyway... I know this got off into BTS, but RM is the leader of the group and delving into RM's solo work alone, and/or BTS and the other members, is such a fun, versatile journey. No genre is off-limits. They create what they want to create in whatever style they want to support whatever message they are saying at the time. Yet they still get grouped into KPOP because the western world wants to pigeon hole them and not give credit for their artistry. Their maturity has obviously grown over the years as well. They started in their teens and have evolved into their 30's now. It is cool journey. If you haven't seen much... I always think a great song to start with is Born Singer. They wrote it back in 2013 shortly after their debut on the beat of JCole's Born Sinner. This stage mix juxtaposes an early stage performance with one they did a few years later. It shows a good intro into their struggles and mindset and just one of the ways they incorporate rap with vocals. When JHope (one of the rappers) was headlining at Lollapalooza a couple of years back, he met JCole and shortly after, Cole gave them permission to include it on their anthology album. I mention it, because if you like it and (as you did here, want to hear the song twice) I recommend watching the second link below as it is their most recent live performance of the song and you can see even more evolution. Namjoon struggling dealing with fame and all its trappings, trying not to lose sight of himself while the whole world watches his every move. The fireworks/wild flower/flower work lyric actually came from his post back in 2017 titled 불꽃놀이the Korean title of "Wild Flower," which rhymes with (firework). He said, "Perhaps in our lives we need wild flowers [ 들꽃; deulkkot]-rather than flames [불꽃; bulkkot] or cherry blossoms [ 벚꽃; beotkkot]- in bloom, tranquilly." It's flower work because wildflowers are like fire works, they spread through the field just like how fireworks spread through the sky except Namjoon is saying he wants to live as a calm wildflower rather than a flashy quickly disappearing firework. So instead of living like fire flowers that is brilliant but would quickly disappear, namjoon would like to live more like wildflowers that are calm and tranquil. He used 불꽃 wordplay in prev work too Him wanting a life like a tranquil wild flower instead of a flashy firework that is quick to burn out. He always paints such a personal and powerful image.

14:42 - you got that part, yes the majority of the the pressure comes from the fame. They built their label up so they are treated differently from other artists. BTS members have full autonomy and artistic liberty over their music. Sometimes the work/expectations that are placed on them by society can be a lot. They way their country perceives them is a pressure they have to consider when looking at their success

Excellent reaction. The only thing you do have to remember is BTS had a difficult rags to riches story. They brought a tiny company on the knife edge of bankruptcy to conglomerate status. So they have had more creative freedom than normal artists. Suga once described the experience of having BTS' success as imagine your dream is the 36 floor and you suddenly find your self right at the very top in the penthouse looking down( Suga doesn't like heights). It must be scary. I like putting INDIGO on and listening straight through. It continues to amaze me ... the quality of his picks for collaborators. Artists like Erykah Badu znd Youjeen of CHERRY Filter fame are well known to not agreeing to collaboratorations with new artists. As for Paul Blanco this album slowed me to discover this amazing artist. I already knew and respected Colde, every track is a different genre. Yet this albums sum is greater than its parts. Flames= ambition and passion in BTS lyrics. Symbology and references seem to form a cohesive language within BTS. Shackles =you don't have freedom every move is scrutinised, RM has received multiple death threats ... so body guards. RM does not really enjoy a celebrity life style. He enjoys mixing with artists but everywhere he goes and everything he does is criticised making normal relationships impossible.

I see the term Flower-Works, as a compromise between Wild Flower and Fire Work. I see the Wildflowers with no name to be like ARMY's, because if you look at those flowers, they are all purple (BTS and ARMY's color). So he wants his life of music, with ARMY's and his BTS bros. But he doesn't want to feel the loneliness, and the hectic schedules, and the prejudice and misunderstandings. And burn out. But he wants something right in between. In regards to RM's poetry saving him. If you think about it, artists that write their own lyrics to their songs, they have more control over their art. I thought that because of what Taylor Swift has gone through, and how she was able to re-record her work, because she was the songwriter on all of those songs, and she owns the copyrights. I'm glad they are still with Big Hit Music, and signed their new contract before they enlisted in the military. The reason being is that Big Hit is still an independent private label. HYBE, the parent company is their parent company and a public conglomerate. All seven of them renewed for the second time. After they get out of the military and come back together in 2025, they will be able to do whatever the hell they want to do (Not that they don't already). And the next comeback is going to be EPIC. By the way, RM has another album dropping on the 24th of this month. I've pre-ordered mine. I want you to watch RM's Tiny Desk Concert.
