My family was not the most supportive until they took a Family Support Program from NAMI. It really helped them understand what I was going through and ultimately the therapy it was for them helped them develop an extremely helpful way of supporting me through this journey with mental illness. I recommend it because many people really have no clue about what we all individually experience when ill.

She is so awesome! There is a Dr. Tracy Marks who specializes in schizophrenia. She can also be informative. Hang on with love patience and strength. I was diagnosed 4 years ago but had schizophrenia for 5 years prior. I had no idea what was happening and was scared to death. I stood my ground with the voices and let God be my rock and foundation. Nine years later it is still difficult for me as I have 24/7 voices and visual hallucinations. Stay strong and always stay in touch with others who also have schizophrenia. It really does help. Loves

When you explained your delusion of being able to will things to happen, it really hit close to home for me, as it sounds similar, if not identical, to what I experience having been diagnosed with OCD. I've now recently been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and I can definitely relate to what you described. It makes much more sense now knowing I have schizoaffective disorder.

I lived in a halfway where everyone started out as very disrespectful, rude. The social workers allowed the people to be lazy, and stay at home except for me. I proved that I wasn’t hospital material. I don’t understand why these people were so much into doing sex too. I hated it there. The social worker did not listen to me so I yelled at her. It was no use saying that I was sorry because she would never listen. I am so glad that I am not in the hospital for life and now I finally have someone like a psychotherapist to talk to. I don’t understand why my parents never got me one. Maybe my dad was afraid that he was going to be arrested because he was abusive.

Just occurred to me on a morning walk: what if schizophrenia is actually the normal trajectory of development for a human brain? It happens around early adulthood typically, ie just when the brain has achieved most volume, esp in the prefrontal cortex area. Unlike animals, humans change the world, with our imagination. Schizophrenics have higher empathy, which also would imply higher imagination (putting yourself in someone else’s shoes). Counter that to the usual neurotypical person. After adolescence, they are basically reduced to social function and sex. So I can see how that is a problem for highly sensitive imaginative people. The first book I ever read was in a school library, a sci fi novel a class mate recommended, the Tripods by John Christopher. It deals exactly with this issue, I think. The precept is that during adolescence, the alien invaders make the peasant population go through a coming of age ritual where they get a sort of crown mesh (mind control/dampening) implanted on their scalp, after which they are considered fully functioning members of society (and also boring), with some youths deciding against it and becoming outcasts.

@Juefawn
@Juefawn Жыл бұрын
@@amandathibodeaux4864 Lauren uses the technique when under the delusion she is telepathic. Generally, when confronted with a delusion one is to weigh the external evidence either to confirm or deny the proposition. Specifically, each delusion can have evidence for or counter to itself. That's why I asked what the delusions entailed so that way you know what to use to prove to him he is mistaken. But you don't have to. You can come up with some discourse tactics yourself. If you really want to understand this method learn hypothesis testing free on YT. It's about the same thing just more scientific. It requires patient and critical thinking.

I personally don't see Manic Depression or Schizophrenia as shameful words. They are confusing terms. Manic is confused with maniac. Schizophrenia is confused with multiple personalities. But I understand that different people see things differently.
@bearclaus2676
@bearclaus2676 Жыл бұрын
@@Catlily5 basically schizophrenia means split brain. Calling it Intergration disorder would describe a difference in thoughts to what is considered the same or what is sane towards a populous. The way sufferers disconnect/separate(dissociates) away from whats relative.

If you change public perception through being open you won't have to change the term. Otherwise it comes to an inflation of terms.

Those words are not shameful at all. It’s just the media constantly reporting on the schizophrenic who attacked someone and Hollywood people inability to actually research shit. If you change the name it’s going to confuse people you are trying to explain the disorder to. And it’s probably not going to change Hollywood or the news portrayal of the disorder.

schizophrenia for many people can make it difficult to articulate their thoughts and feelings as she is doing in this video. even if it were a natural part of her speech unrelated to schizophrenia, different people speak differently and that is ok as long as they are still getting the message across, especially important messages like the ones in lauren’s videos. especially in a non scripted video like this one it’s understandable that she would use ‘um’/‘like’ or something similar. i don’t think it is excessive at all myself but since it is for you, honestly i would suggest to try to work on getting used to it yourself, watch a different channel or learn about this illness through a different format such as by reading. i know you are trying to be polite in this comment and not cruel, but in the end it is really not a problem that is up to her to fix, it is an issue on your end, and this comment was not necessary. the important thing is that she is speaking and educating about her experience, there is no need to nitpick her speech patterns.
