Now would be a good time to revisit the whole documentary, and this Q&A. Sad - and infuriating - but the world, and I do mean the world, is feeling a profound sadness today.

Oh my goodness Thank You Nature on PBS for the Grizzly 399 video AND this Live Q&A! My only regret is that I missed this live chat.

Thank all of you for this important episode. I hope that this film will help people realize that we are the biggest enemy of wildlife. Also, I really appreciated Trevor and Tom's knowledge about offspring survival. If only about 1/2 of 399's offspring have survived, then that is only 1 per year in the last 15-18 years. Also, to make any decisions regarding delisting should be tabled until the effect of climate change on Grizzlies survival is understood. Nature on PBS is one of, if not the most important shows on PBS . You bring into our homes how truly wonderful wildlife of all kinds are. You educate us to their place and purpose in ecosystems. Tom 's statement about the wolves be dessimated when delisted makes a really valid point why government and states should not be the ones to make the decisions. It is the wildlife and ecosystem biologist and scientists that should make the decisions. Humans need to learn how to live on the earth without it being to the exclusion of and at the expense of nature and wildlife. I understand Ranchers point, however they chose to ranch there and it is up to them to figure out how to cut their losses, that doesn't include killing apex predators, such as bears, coyote, pumas, wolves. You cannot begrudge them for doing what is natural for them to do to survive. Some things are more important than Money. Most apex predators have very large ranges, they require a lot of space. When humans choose to encroach on that space,. it is them that needs to adjust and accommodate. Elizabeth - would like to share ideas about the urban wildlife interface issue. Again, so appreciate all of you for bringing these stories to us, it is the best of shows on Television. THANK YOU!!!

I think Ms. Leiter and her team did an excellent job. Obviously the focus was on 399, but I think they gave balanced consideration to the various human perspectives too. So, thank you.

This was so cool. Thank you for doing the livestream! I was so upset this week seeing PBS investigated by a fascist congressional committee. They have painted a target on the back of our beloved PBS and if they have their way they will get rid of it. I am a paid contributor to PBS and I will fight to keep it. If you are defunded, because we know that's what the fascists want in their race to total oligarchical control of our country, I hope you will find a home here on KZbin. Now I have to turn off notifications because I'm sure I'll get some snarky replies to this comment. But I don't care. It has to be said. When PBS goes, so does our democracy. Great program by the way. You are all heroes. 🐻❤

With food shortages due to climate change why not supplement our bears to keep them healthy and safe. Food plots can help replace shortages . Some farmers are seeing bears feeding on crops. May help them not to roam. Thanks

With all due respect, I don’t think we should be giving the location of her den etc. God/goodness forbid they get delisted…I worry hunters will know too much.

Sorry I missed the live broadcast. I'm on the west coast. I wanted to say though that if the problem is bears habituating towards humans, why do the parks let people stop and view them? In my mind, Tom is part of the problem because he has always photographed them. He's one of the humans the bears are habituated towards. He could use his fame to discourage people from looking at bears. I also believe the park system could do more with aversion training to keep the bears away from people. To further extrapolate, I'm not really sure why this episode featured so much photography that all! It sends a conflicting message.

Why are these wild animals so rare ?? Hmmm . Could it be because humans are involved in some way ?? Leave these poor animals alone. Have we done enough damage ,,,,,,,,,,, ?
@inthehouse19606 ай бұрын
right? If they get delisted they will be hunted to extinction. And for what? So humans can feel like they rule over nature. And where will that get those humans...yep...extinction. I agree....and would add, leave these beautiful animals alone.

I don't want to live on a planet without all these beautiful animals. ❤ I love living in a rural area where I get to see wild animals all the time. I love the birds at my feeders and all the smaller critters too. I have coffee on my back porch as my chipmunks eat a few feet away. I had a tufted titmouse try to land on me last week 😂 twice. I see deer and sometimes a Mama with a fawn or 2 cross the back road at dusk to feed in the field aside of the road. We see wild turkeys, foxes, all sorts of amphibians, I even gave a baby snapping turtle a good head start when he showed up at my door lost a few years ago. My profile picture is of him. When he was big enough to fend for himself and not end up as lunch for another critter, I released him back into his wild home. We watched a gray fox hunting, from our own back porch last year around this time or early summer. I've seen red ones but that was my first gray fox I saw in the wild. I so enjoy it here and much prefer animals over many people. You couldn't pay me to live in a city, I would be miserable.

Many people are uneducated about biology/zoology & environmental sciences & see all wildlife as pests to be exterminated. So scary when uneducated hold the power!!!! God help us all...
