Let me say I am addicted to this channel. To those behind the scene ignore stupidity. Without y’all the message wouldn’t get out. The rescuers work would go unnoticed. The people behind the scene are the one putting the spotlight on the problem the rescuers are doing their part to be the solution and together OCN is a great team doing amazing work. Thank you all for the work effort and dedication to your cause.

I guess we can do our share protecting birds and other types of land animals in different ways. We have plenty of plastics that can potentially wind up in parks, streets and disposing plastics properly like those on cans can be cut up before we dispose of them for one. I’m so glad this group is dedicated to helping seals.

@@LauraKnight2024 your 17-year-old could still pick up trash before it can make it to the ocean, not buy unnecessary plastic, and cut loops out of everything that goes in the trash. You can make a difference no matter where you live. It definitely could feel as rewarding knowing you’re proactively making a difference.

As a wildlife vet I can only reinforce and reconfirm that letting the seals go straight into the sea gives them the absolutely best chance of survival, ESPECIALLY the ones with the worst wounds. In a rehab facility apart from stress, providing fresh sea water is extremely difficult, handling is a nightmare, stressed animals sometimes will not eat and treatment would not be as effective as hours of exercise and feeding naturally in the sea.

The stress of captivity can immunocompromise wildlife, rhabdomyolysis, can even kill some fragile species. I try to limit the amount I must handle wildlife to treat them, and put them in a situation where they can't see or hear me. People often don't understand that wildlife naturally lives in a "dirty" environment and has adapted and evolved for it, and don't necessarily need "modern medicine," and do better back out there, where they should be. A few moments of pain while their entanglements are removed, and then release! From what OCN says, most of them are going to heal in weeks. That's amazing proof of their resilience. Not to mention how expensive all that fish would cost, to feed them in captivity. And where to buy it all in Namibia, and the huge freezer they'd need...! So glad you eloquently addressed those problems. I envy your advanced skills, I'm just a rehabber. But I'm lucky that I've got great wildlife vets I've worked with for many years. Can never thank them enough. Or you, for doing what you do. ;)

I'm a wildlife rehabber in the US. When people who bring me wildlife ask me what I need, I always say "money, muscle and toilet paper, in that order." They laugh until they realize I'm being totally serious. The most important thing someone can donate is money. Only the rehabilitators know what they need most, and when... and where to get specialized items. I can buy my own bird seed anywhere, any time... but lots of creatures don't eat seeds, and I know where to order frozen mice shipped to me, live mealworms, and where in town to get frozen smelt. Every major charity will tell you that they can buy more food, more supplies, and get them faster. Money gives organizations the freedom to get what they know they need, the best way they can. And all the "unglamorous" quiet administrative work that goes on behind the scenes? It's so important. It keeps the law happy, so they'll continue to let me do what I love to do. And it makes government look good, in return, when we do our jobs. Record keeping allows me to see trends at the end of each year, and makes it easier to remember each case. I'm always learning, improving. I can see trends due to global warming and local zonal creep. And being able to talk about solid statistics, educating the public, as OCN does, has impact. I don't see any negative comments from the troll that people seem to be reacting to. There's one bad apple in every bushel. I have watched OCN for several months now, and can attest to your compassion, professionalism, and constant striving to improve and refine. The animals come first... I've never seen anything else. Dealing with wildlife can be dangerous. They can hurt you. They can be vectors for disease. And we have to take the utmost care to make sure we don't harm them either, or let them harm each other. I doubt that a vet would do anything differently than you do in the field, and agree with your explanations of why you don't administer meds. And you need to travel light when chasing a big bull over slippery rocks, who's looking at you like you're "the blue plate special!" The faster these guys can get back to the sea, the less stress on them, and the sooner they can start to feed and heal. Your recaptures prove it... statistics, again. I really appreciate what you do. You're the only channel where I'm willing to let the ads run without skipping them. And the only channel where I've had to remind myself to breathe, and that no, I can't reflexively reach through the screen and help you hold that net! If it were not for KZbin suggestIng your videos In their thumbnails, I might never have known about OCN. You're a world away, helping species I'll never get where I am, landlocked in high desert. Even your steady camera work in the midst of a chase or entanglement removal, is spot-on. To do all of those at the same time, without compromising your care... wow.

I have been a scientist and technology advocate most of my life. The incredible dedication and hard work of your entire team, from your intensive off-camera management and planning to your physically challenging chases and skillfully done rescues, have changed my thoughtless dismissal of the dangers of plastics forever and given me hope that we can do better. I used to focus on how plastics have low _chemical_ toxicity. But watching your videos woke me up to the deeply horrifying _physical_ toxicity of plastics. Every one of you, including your new youngest member, are now my heroes. You are people I can talk about to my granddaughters as examples of how good people who care can make a profound, positive difference in this troubled world. I say that as someone who has worked high up in the US science research community, and who has personally known two candidates for the US Presidency. Politics is mostly blather and insincerity. You folks are the real deal. Thank you.

I'm so sorry I missed this chat! I was hoping this was going to happen. I'm fascinated by the unique catching nets and who makes them. They look complicated with the zippers here and there. Also, I felt there were women who balance things out. Glad to see all happy together ✌👍

It was interesting to hear you talk about how difficult and time consuming it is to receive parcels/packages in Namibia. Those of us who are pampered by the efficiency of the systems in our countries often forget that things don't work as smoothly in other parts of the world. I would suggest perhaps you put a message on every video that says something like: "Please do not try to send us parcels/packages. It is extremely difficult, time consuming and cost prohibitive for us to get them through and from customs in Namibia"

I like the vids because they’re concise and straight forward. The group scout, run like bandits, capture, remove entrapment - voila! Mission is over. On to the next seal. I love it!

A huge thank you to each and every one of you for your time-consuming and energy-sapping efforts in helping these beautiful animals live in their natural habitat in spite of man’s careless determination to pollute it! There were so many good questions answered in this video. It was a joy to watch. We really enjoyed meeting everyone you!

Sorry I missed this! I love you guys & all of the hard work that you do to save the seals!! I especially love how Tony baby talks to the captured seals. 🥰🥰 Keep up the awesome work! I’ve been campaigning about carelessly tossing trash away since the 90’s (before ya’ll were born). I live along the Gulf coast of Texas and see many shorebirds with fishing line injuries. (I am a birder who specializes in shorebirds). Best of the future to you all!!!! 😊🥰

I rescue dogs. Their suffering and entanglement is not as visible or physical as the seals(sometimes it is) but it's still there. Everybody should do their part as best they can.

I truly must tell you... What a beautiful "Live"! It is amazing to see a very well connected TEAM. I thank Yahweh, for bringing folks like you and all who protect his creation. With all my heart I thank YOU for putting your selves at risk in any form to bring this to us, the viewer. For the person who stated "she talks alot for not being out there" it's only because they may not understand that the work done behind the scenes can be more daunting and mentally draining than that of a physical. (not saying that physical is not draining, by no means) Continue the beautiful work that is ahead of you and for the generations to follow. Thank you🙏

So often strong women behind the scenes are what keep things going. I’m glad you addressed that heckler with respect, rising above his unkindness and explaining the reality of all you do. You are obviously highly dedicated and a vital part of this amazing organization. I’m so grateful for you and for each and every selfless person who is part of this great work. I so wish I could be hands on myself! Sending much love and appreciation 🙏🏻💗. Thank you for your manifested love of the ocean and its precious life.

Your live chats are so important. Thank you for doing them. I think your son's comment about seals getting caught in rubbish caused by us, is 100% true! We all need to do our part to change that. As for the negative comment that was made , don't let someone's ignorance bring you down. You all do such a great job! The animals thank you!

Liebe Grüße an alle, Silke
