For Mark Bovee: EPICA does also perform with full orchestra, choir(s), and aerial acrobats, in specific shows (you can't travel with a full orchestra, choirs and acrobats all the time) This year there'll be 2 shows in Mexico and 2 shows in Amsterdam with the full show

I would highly suggest Chasing The Dragon Live at Retrospect to see what Epica does with aerial acrobats! Also the song is quite the composition, Simone is pregnant and still nails it. It's a metal ballad that builds and builds for 7-8 minutes to a gorgeous climax!

Symphonic metal bands like Epica and Nightwish always use click tracks because there are so many backing tracks used as well (mostly choir and classical/strings) throughout the setlist Nightwish especially uses both click and backing tracks profusely when playing live.

I'm happy this band is popular enough to have a career for 30 years at this point, because I for one love their music. Their lyrics are both poetic and philosophical. The lyrics look at the big picture of life, which is a no no in mainstream. Their music try to surprise you which is also a no no recipe for mainstream. It gives me hope that music will for a long time have these pockets of originality

I think this is a great performance to react to, so well done! Not sure what the person chatting in the livestream had in mind. It's a good song to react to precisely because it's a really heard one, and varied, with both operatic vocals (in the start), contemporary techniques (towards the end) and a whole lot of growls.

You might want to check out the AFAS Live 2023 version. Simone let out a loud laugh when Coen slipped a bit. Its a bit tamer then Paris version. Have a great week guys.

So you just experienced an over the top performance of probably their heaviest song, personally I prefer their more melodic music which makes up the vast majority of their catalogue, they have written some of the most unique and beautiful songs that I have heard from any band or artist, here is a great example: on the Elimeleh69 yt channel Epica - Tides Of Time (lyrics)

And our days consign to oblivion due to our daily routine! What possesses your time, also possesses your mind (that's from another song of them). Synfonic metal bands will have to play tracks from the orchastra, and choirs, as playback, as its imposible to have a entire symfonic orchastra, and a big choir with you on tour.. its imposible right..

Impossible for every gig but not impossible. EPICA have done it on a number of occasions and have 4 more concerts planned for this year with full orchestra and choir. Sell your mother for a ticket!

Floor Jansen herself has said that most metal is in a minor key. I would in one sense agree, since that is mostly what I have been hearing since 1970 listening to Black Sabbath for the first time. Whole subgenres of metal are pretty much minor only, like death, doom and black. But I had an an IT career outside of music which prevented me from listening to a lot of music for decades, so I can't really say what the norm is.

His name is "Coen", not "Co(h)en" :-)! The "e" vowel does not sound. AFAIK, there is no equivalent sound for this vowel combination in English. As a matter of fact, "does" has two meanings in English, plus two pronounciations. Neither is close to the Dutch vowel combination which is quite common. Doen, boen, hoen, koen, noen, poen, toen, zoen. Boet, doet, moet, roet, toen, toer, toet, voet, zoet. And so on...
