New Nightwish an ocean of strange islands is a must listen. Tuomas threw everything into it & unleashed Floor finally.

Great reaction! Floor said it best when she said "wow!" This is my favorite Floor performance and one of my favorite overall Nightwish performances. Not only is it great musically, but the theatrical interplay between Floor and Marko is so much fun to watch!

Hi! The album Century child has so many great songs... The beauty of the beast being possibly the best. And amongst the best NW songs, ever. Highly recommend

Fun fact: While Marko was introducing this song, Floor & Tuomas were making a libation to the gods (so between “The Kinslayer” and ‘Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean"): kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5aXZ2yYfNuKiac

An E6 siren from Floor and a beautiful shift from very dissonant minor tonality into major towards the end. I agree with several comments.... An Ocean of Strange Islands is a must! Best song since Greatest Show on Earth

Hi Christi! The song is from the OCEANBORN album, the 1st album I heard from NIGHTWISH (1998), being astonished by Tarja's voice, and I was not the only one ( it was Simone's fuse for entering the genre). Although I prefer a quite underestimated song from this album (The Riddler) I always like to see you in symphonic metal. In a few days you'll get an invitation...hope you accept it! Cheers from Greece!

Hi Christi! I saw your reaction 3 hours late, but it was so fun to see you almost burst out of your leather jacket. So extremely happy Nightwish made you, again, that even Ghost love score is having competition now. In this song the whole band has to play their instruments sharp in perfect timing. Otherwise it will be catastrophic. They are probably the best band in the world. I'm so proud of them as citizen of Finland. Good wishes to you..Kaisa

Their method can be seen In the documentary "making of Endless Forms Most Beautifull" . Perhaps you could someday React to it? Basically Tuomas composes and writes lyrics to the song. Then he creates demo versions with synths containing all the Instruments. Vocal melody he plays on top of the demo with a piano sound. Then demos and lyrics are sent to the bandmembers, Who study and practise their parts at home. After this comes a training camp, where songs are finalised and everyone can presenter their improvement ideas to Tuomas and others. Finalised versions of band parts are the result of this camp. When training camp is over, they usually head soon to the studio.

For Yesterwynde Floor was unable to travel for the training camp. I wonder if her not participating in that camp impacted the final versions of the new songs, i.e. they might have had stronger vocal melodies if she had been there. I know she did her own vocal prep since Tuomas has said she was amazing and extremely well prepared when they came to her home to record her vocals and they were able to record them in half the time he expected.

An aside to the current song, but you mentioned 'Yesterwynde'. I've just read a recent magazine interview with Troy Donockley, who said that he and Tuomas invented the word between them, and it's pronounced as in 'wind a watch'. This pronunciation and the 'wynde' spelling were used for wind ('a stiff breeze') in the sixteenth century, such as in the song 'Westron Wynde' [and in Shakespeare's (and others') works, where the poetic rhymes make the pronunciation clear]. It's intended to evoke both ". . . yester-wind, a wind that passes through us, or yester-wined, as in wind a clock back."
