Well, actually, Floor asked Tuomas for less lyrics in this actual song. She said it was like a rap, originally. Tuomas complied, so there are limitations.

For myself, Nightwish studio recordings take some time to grow on me. They tend to be very deep in a musical and artistic literary sense. It is never focused on the aggressive metal style, which disappoints many hard core metal heads. I like most of the music Tuomas and the band creates. However, it is so much more powerful and emotionally impactful in a live performance. A huge part of that impact is Floor's charisma and stage presence. It truly brings the music and stories to LIFE. Secondarily is the fact they can pull of these songs to perfectly on stage. Most bands cannot bring this level of musical perfection to a live performance. It the reference to "Let it be, Retiree" all about Marko's decision to leave? Then the farewell wish "The waters fine", "Sail carefree". No worries about the Kenny G reference. Tuomas actually loves Vangelis.

We meet many people, but sail onwards through life. Then towards the end of the journey, we have made our own song. (Lyric video - The Butterflies, become birds (seagulls) when nearing land).

This song intrigued me on first listen, and it has only grown on me since. This album is definitely more lyrically-driven than previous albums. While Tuomas always gives Floor the vocal and lyrical workout, I also think he gave Kai quite the challenge on this album. On just the first listen of the entire album, the drums stuck out to me far more than on any other first listen of previous Nightwish albums. This album is also the only Nightwish album that two weeks after its release, I'm still listening to the entire album in order without skipping a single track each day. I've lost track of how many times I've listened to the album now, but I listen to it multiple times each day and I'm still finding new things in the music I hadn't heard before. It's such a rich and complex album, I love it so much. I hesitate to say it's my favorite Nightwish album (that honor belongs to Wishmaster for me), but it's at the very least a very close second favorite album!

_Nightwish_ is sort of a long-term project for Tuomas . . . it's more than just a band. (A bit like Arjen Lucassen and his _Ayreon_ project, with its forever-in-flux cast of artists.)

The weird thing is that many thought this would be the best setting in the album... But have realised that this is A highlight, but not THE highlight of the album. For me, this is the most mature, must elaborate and best balanced album nightwish every created. Human II Nature was a great and extremely memorable album, but thisone... It's over 70min long and yet it feels extremely short
@NickBR573 ай бұрын
EVERY Nightwish song needs you to understand the lyrics to get the absolute last drop of meaning from the song. If you dont listen to the lyrics of Tuomas you are missing half the music.

This song is just ridiculous in regards of the agility it requires from the vocalist, and Tuomas is wild, and even wilder is Floor that has a superpower in the shape of her singing voice and technique. The only other song that sounds remotely similar in terms of vocal agility required is Wanderlust from the Wishmaster album, in the chorus but only for a few moments not the whole song like this.
