The UK system baffles me. It has been 26 years since I graduated from University of Iceland (in 1995). In Iceland every module/course counts to the final weighted average grade. 1. Class with distinction is 9.0 to 10. 1st Class is 7.25 to 8.99. 2nd Class is 6.0 to 7.24. 3rd Class is 5.0 to 5.99. Grades are on a scale 1 to 10 with 0.5 increments.

I study English Literature and just got a 2:1 too in my first year at the University of Birmingham! We had the same issue of not actually being told what our overall classification is so there was some panic on the course group chat as we all struggled to recall basic GCSE maths! Congratulations!!

40% in America is an automatic fail. 50% is a fail. 60% is D or just above a flat out fail. 70% is a C or satisfactory, 80% is a B is above satisfactory, 90% and above is an A which means excellent.

I simply admire how hard you work and how you take true ownership of each of your classes and are able to adjust the amount of effort each require like a true professional! I also think that you do an amazing job of knowing when you have time to play and have fun and when you don't. That is a trait that I wished I had possessed when I was in college. But alas, although I did manage to graduate, I clearly enjoyed the "play and have fun" part of college much more than the work and study part. :) Again, congratulations Jack!

It's so much more different than highschool. I honestly didn't expect it to be that drastic. The pass mark at my school is a 60% overall average but by my standards it's 75% or 70% (not that I always pass it). If I get lower than a 75% or 80% (which is an A) in some subjects I'm really disappointed. There are obviously subjects that I am terrible at ex. Spanish, so they will bring down my average. But by the marking scheme and the difficulty of university you did very well. I hope I can do that good when I get to that stage. If I get there. Congrats. 💜

In America even in your general education, you can still be published in some circumstances. I had almost gotten an anthropology paper(Social Structures of the Yokuts Social Structures) published, and the same thing happened in kinesiology (Complexities of Spinal Cord Injuries).
