The thing with Sabaton and their History Channel is that they dig deep into the history about the battle, war och event they are writing the song about. They do NOT take sides, they only tell the story. Great History buffs in the band.

Lyrics Life time in war. I look around and see my home disappearing My time at home now feels far too short Mere youth, hardly a man when duty called me I don't know if I'll see my home again Among relatives from my village, I went out into battle And the world burned For the war, it can Destroy a man I give my life for my motherland But who misses me? So see me as that A husband, a friend Father and son who never come home But who mourns me? Went into battle for Sweden, was baptized in blood Out there, death awaits, not heroism In fields where kinsmen fall, no song is heard Challenging our destinies, once again Far From Home (Be baptized and die in battle) And the world burned For the war, it can Destroy a man I give my life for my motherland But who misses me? So see me as that A husband, a friend Father and son who never come home But who mourns me? And when my time is up Who cares then? They are struggling Does a soldier get a dignified end? Get to sleep Disappear away And never wake up For the war, it can Destroy a man I give my life for my motherland But who misses me? So see me as that A husband, a friend Father and son who never come home But who mourns me? For the war, it can Destroy a man I give my life for my motherland But who misses me? So see me as that A husband, a friend Father and son who never come home But who mourns me?

Hey, you nailed the title! Here's a quick tip for anyone trying to pronounce Swedish, and a funny anecdote, in theme with the channel, to go with it: I have a friend who's American, and an opera singer. He's currently residing in Sweden and has picked up the language remarkably well. I guess his ear for music probably helped a lot with that. One day we were on a walk and he remarked that he enjoyed singing in Swedish because the placement was much more forward in the mouth. By no means do I speak English without an accent, but I think I have adopted an American 'leaning' accent through popular media, and it gave me the idea to try and speak English while deliberately pushing the articulation forward more - and it instantly made my accent much heavier. I had never before thought about where in the mouth I form the sounds when speaking Swedish, or English, but that was one of those lightbulb moments. So the tip, if trying to pronounce Swedish words or sentences, is to have a forward placement.

This was just weeks before the pandemic shutdown started to affect the tour. Joakim began this video by commenting all the lights; "absolutely wonderful", and continued to say "let's sing together", and so they did.

Why didn't you have the English subtitles on so you would have understood what they were singing about, because it is moving. Life's time at war is about the 30-year war Sweden was involved in and about how fathers, sons and friends went to war far from home and never returned home. This song talks about how it is even today, that Ukrainians are forced into war to defend themselves against Russian soldiers and many of them on both sides never come home alive.

Not understanding the language and watching this live performance without subtitles is a SERIOUS mistake imho, sure you can get a general feel but so much is lost. You really miss out on so much emotion in the lyrics, since its nothing like the english version of "A lifetime of war". Swedish version is from the perspective of a swedish soldier IN the war, english version is a third person perspective of the war. Subtitles is a must to really understand the fear and sadness this song conveys as a soldier during the war.

I'm so glad for your reaction. Yes I'm a Swede and ofc very biased toward my favorite band Sabaton, but you put in your reaction the higher dimension and values about this song. More than anyone else did. You are so right. Music is energy, something humans are alone with. To give energy to your surroundings is not a simple thing. That's what our lifes here on earth is all about. Sabaton do this with splendour. Makes you feel proud to be a human. Not as a swede, not as an american, not as anybody else, but as a human. Music is the way to go. Good music that gives you the energy with talented songs, lyrics and harmonys. / Micke P

This gig was done in an ice hock eyarena in Gothenburg called scandinavium on Feb 14, 2020. There were 10,766 people in the audience, but not me unfortunately. I was sitting in Thailand wondering if I should go home because of Covid. Soon after, Sweden closed the borders and introduced some rules about gatherings and in business. But I got home, but I had to show a train ticket from Copenhagen to Sweden to get on the plane.

Ullevi usually hosts about 50 000, but they usually look between the fingers and let more in. Thats why they have to reinforce the ullevi fundament once in a while (quite often).. Gothenburg is build in blue clay and not hard rock.. its a.vslley with a port.

If you are struggling a bit, the Swedish is not that far from English. As a Finn, it sounds almost the same to me... "Fader och son som aldrig kommer hem." Father and son who never come home. The song is a masterpiece. And Hannes is a very lucky guy. All the best!

The crowd sing-along is something of a power metal staple. Other legendary moments "imortalized" on youtube are the videos Manowar Best Crowd Ever, Blind Guardian The Bard's Song/Valhalla and Rhapsody-Emerald Sword at Montreal. P.s. Joakim plays keyboards, rarely live, but he's credited on the albums.
