More than 700 earthquakes rattle Santorini forcing people to flee Greek island. A state of emergency has been declared in Santorini as the experts warns of more seismic activities in the coming days. The largest tremor recorded so far was of magnitude of 5.2. It was the first to exceed 5.0 since the tremors began last week. The island's 15,000 residents face mass evacuations, with three-quarters fleeing amid ongoing tremors. As the quakes intensify, uncertainty grows, and scientists remain puzzled over their cause. The Greek Prime Minister announces a $3 million emergency package to address the crisis.
The region last suffered a major earthquake in 1956, when a tremor with a magnitude of 7.7 struck to the south of the island of Amorgos, followed minutes later by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake near Santorini. This caused significant damage to both islands.

Time for a history lesson. The year was 1600 BC the island of Santorini erupted it was one of the worst disasters in human history. The shock wave wiped out the Minoan civilization. It is speculated to be the event responsible for the 10 plagues of Egypt. That event happened approximately 3625 years ago.
