Ma Long ist einfach nicht nur der Drache im TISCHTENNISSPORT, sondern ein ganz außergewöhnlicher Spieler. Mit der Fähigkeit sich den TT Techniken zu stellen und sich selbst immer wieder zu verändern. When was the last time we saw Ma Long serving reverse pendulum throughout the WHOLE match?! He clearly spent time strategizing his response to WCQ after losing several times to him in recent matches. He knew WCQ has a stronger backhand, so he consistently served to the forehand. Being a left-hander, WCQ had to run to his left in order to flick, giving Ma Long a positional advantage. Also, because they practice so much together, WCQ knew all his forehand serves like the back of his hand. The change-up in serves and strategy definitely surprised and confused WCQ. Such an adaptive player - the GOAT!

Ma long changed his tactics after losing to Wang so many times in the past. He used a lot more back hand fast counter to Wang's forehand. Ma long did lots of control instead of brute force forehand.

Table tennis is a game of speed, power and quick reflexes (low reaction time) above all. I see that the GOAT improvised in this match. With age, his reflexes and body has slowed down (the exact same problem that Fan Zhendong is going through). So, he switched from a forehand oriented approach (the one for which he is known) to a backhand dominant game. The reason is that a backhand oriented game is much less taxing on the body and due to the shorter movements required in the backhand, even a slightly higher reaction time is ok. In his original Forehand dominant game, he could afford it because of his accompanying very quick reflexes and extraordinarily quick movements. Now that that quick movement has gone, he was not able to win with the Forehand approach. In this match he clearly adopted a new BH oriented approach that is more suitable to his aging body and slower reflexes (as compared to earlier). Additionally, another new change I see in this match is that he is visibly purposefully much calmer than his original self which was like a hungry predator waiting to pounce on his prey. If you see his game in his heydays - he had visibly hyper aggressive body language and a very low stance with a menacing look while receiving serve. In this game he is standing slightly higher and much more relaxed and that menacing look is not there. So, his new formula to adapt to his slowing reflexes is 1) Stay calm - aggression is not working anymore as reflexes have slowed and the body is not cooperating with the original approach and style of play 2) Cut down on huge swings and big Forehands because they need a lot of energy and quick movements. Adopt a backhand oriented game with shorter strokes, quick drives and offsetting placements

I agree that he obviously adopted a BH first attack. But I disagree with the reasons. His movement is not as quick as before but his reflexes are as good. At least it's hard to tell by the naked eye because his exceptional defense today. What I am going to argue is that his previous FH focused play style is no longer the main stay of today's game because BH focused game has evolved to the point that if you don't do it, you are at a significant disadvantage. Ma Long was in somewhat a slump after the 21 Olympics because the BH-strong players have the advantage that it's hard for him to overcome. It takes time to change your style of play. But finally he is here. His BH becomes of one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful, in the game. This is Ma Long, the living legend, who developed a powerful BH at the age of 35. Is it a surprise? No. Because this is table tennis. After watching his game, I played with my partner today and he said my BH was significantly better today. I said I was inspired by Ma Long (and Miwa as well). I am 50. If I can do it, anybody can do it.

No it's more nuanced than that. He's adopted a new starting position where he'll open the attack with the backhand. Once he's tactically put the opponent on the back foot, he'll go for the FH kill. It's lower risk and more calculated, but he still pivots way more than most players on the circuit, because he knows his FH kill has a much higher kill % than his BH does.

Yo no creo, primeroo Wang es un jugador chino super confiado y algo arrogante al momento de jugar y ya le ha pasado antes con algunos koreanos por ejemplo wang venia teniendo de hijo a ma long pero salio muy confiado. por otro lado ma long es muy listo cambio su forma de jugar completamente en este partido, empezó a priorizar su backhand, su saque, etc. Increible lo de ma long un maestro del cambio, cambio casi todo, su saque su ataque, muy sereno al jugar. Algo parecido a lo de timo actualmente tuvo que bajar su musculatura y cambio su juego a uno mas ofensivo dentro de mesa como suele ser actualmente. Merito de Ma long y por si no han visto wang sufre demasiadoooo cuando lo empiezan a dominar es un jugador que se siente comodo dominando cuando no es asi suele perder y si le agregamos que le hicieron un juego muy diferente, sabian que el tens profesional es literalmente de pura tecnica ya se conocen todos peor los chinos, y al jugarle de una forma diferente wang no pudo hacer naa. Un partido muy interesante de analizar. Pero jajaja Ma long lleva desde el 2022 siento protagonista en los eventos y siempre hay alguien que le caga su triunfo sera un partido dificil contra gaoyuen que muy silencioso es para la bestialidad de jugador que tambien es.
