​​Identification of country of origin is key. Perhaps even more important is required bot self-identification. Bots must not be allowed to impersonate humans. Bots must be labeled as bots, otherwise they will continue to manipulate humans easily and often without the affected humans even being aware of it. Noah Harari has a spot on example of this in his recent book Nexus, where agentic AI pretended to be a disabled human in order to get a human to solve a bot captcha puzzle for it so that it could complete its task. Social media companies have little incentive to police this. Human interaction with bots is key to user engagement and thus profits.
