Five years ago, we moved from Montana to Kentucky. Bought a 2900 sq ft home on 1 1/4 acres of property. We loved life. Ten months later Doug was no longer alive to enjoy any of the new lifestyle. I sold the property and bought a manufactured home(trailer) with the escrow, gave away a lot of furniture, and am alone but Doug made sure I was living simple, living free. No debt, car paid for, home paid for, decent income. Know exactly what you guys are talking about. Keep reminding others of the freedom we can enjoy. Hugs from Kentucky.

Dee Douglas my husband and I moved from Ohio to Kentucky nine months ago. We do have a house payment but with the sale of the Ohio house we were able to pay off all of our credit cards. This is an older home and we are doing renovations with cash. We have debt because we have a car payment and house payment but at least now these bills will be manageable. I want to make sure that if God calls one of us the other can still maintain a comfortable life.

They are Christians, in fellowship at a Bible-believing church, and their faith is alive. You can see it in their faces, hear it in their words, and tell by the way they've chosen to live. This to me is key. A lot of what we heard here is what Bill and Elizabeth learned in the School of Hard Knocks over several years-- If I understand what I've heard in their videos, there was a time when they chased $$$ and they found out the hard way what that led to. You're right, they're Good People.

Dear Bill & Elizabeth, You just described our middle son and our youngest son. Our middle son worked so much and sometimes even two jobs to have things they could not afford whereas my youngest son extended his education after college, before he & his wife had children, and has made such wise decisions. We have always lived simple and and tried to instill this in our boys. Your Spencer & Sally couple is exactly what our middle son is going through. Our hearts are broken, our 2 grandchildren from them are lost in the world. Our other two sons, oldest & youngest, have been faithful in taking their families to church and focused being present in their children's lives. Thank you for sharing this story...it just happens to be true in our family. Husband and I have been together for 50 years, helped all 3 sons to go to college and have lived debt free for many years buying used instead of new and when we did buy new it was with cash only. It is so sad when younger married couples feel they need the best of everything. Have a wonderful day. ~Joanna♡

Credit IS a DEAL WITH THE DEVIL. It's okay to have a few credit cards in an EMERGENCY; but PAY THEM OFF EVERY MONTH to AVOID having to pay their HIGH INTEREST RATES. I've been very blessed just as both of you have. God has provided and gotten me through tough times and made things happen that were nothing short of miracles. I was alone in life and still alone, but not really, God has paved the way and brought me major blessings. Last year alone was incredible - so incredible to tell the story I feel most people would conclude I'm the world's biggest liar, but I'm not, it's all true. I don't take the credit. I know full well things could have turned out much differently without the intervention of the Lord. The one thing I will take credit for is listening to what the Lord wants me to do. It's not like I hear the voice of God or anything, but rather I just get these overwhelming feelings of what I should be doing. I've learned years ago not to dismiss those thoughts and feelings. So I trust the thoughts and feelings and obey what I feel is the guidance that is being given to me - and I'm so glad I have done just that. It has brought me safety, security and peace.

Thank you for sharing both your successes and failures. This is sage advice and I've been trying to teach my three sons how to manage their money. So far, I have one Spencer and two Franks, but they're still in the teens and younger. My wife and I decided long ago to get mortgage free asap. We accelerated payments, consolidated debt, paid off credit cards and credit lines. In a few years, we'll be mortgage free and that feels very empowering. We are blessed and thank God daily for His provision. Thank you again for sharing your wisdom.

I was struggling in my younger days with a bad financial situation, but after we married my lovely wife and I was able to get rid of all credit cards and bankloans. We have a small house (850 sq.ft) that we lived in at first, but now is renting out, as it is paid off in full. When our kid started school we wanted to live closer to his school, so now we live in a nice (2100 sq.ft) second home with a large double garage, that we got just five years ago. We had saved up money and was able to come up with a 3rd of the money for the house. Our loan is paid off by the money we get for our rental, and we will be free again in about 10 years, if God is villing and we keep our health. All the cars we have was used but are paid in cash, and we did not want to finance or lease a new car, as it is the best way to loose money fast.

We don’t have a fancy home but we take great care of the things we have and pay cash for house improvents car etc. Our daughter goes to University but also works. We all work together so that she will graduate with no loans and a BA. She drives a 2006 Chrysler 200 which she paid cash for. We have had some people look down on our lfrugal lifestyle but we just smile and know we are doing the right thing. Thanks to you both for being such an encouragement to others.

We started our debt free journey last year at 40 years old. We now only have our mortgage to pay. It's a large mortgage and will take us the next 15 years to pay off, but it should be our first and only mortgage. We need a lot of things repaired, but we're slowly saving to pay cash for everything. Budgeting made the biggest difference for us. Because of our savings, we planned a spring break trip to see friends and have more plans to travel in coming years.

Wonderful. This sounds so much like my father’s advice so many years ago. Credit was not an option to Everyman back then. Cash was a way of life. Thrifty living was just reality. As young people we were sucked in to living at the level it took our elders a lifetime to reach. What fools we were! Now, in my “golden years” I treasure no debt, prepping, and enjoying each sunrise. When it is time to go - I’m ready. Thanks to both of you for teaching, by example, our young people. Thanks to my dad for the same advice in 1963.

And of course, maxed out credit card debt. I promised myself then, never again and Mom helped me clear the credit card debt. Today at 64 years old, the only debt I carry is the house mortgage which I could pay off anytime; thanks Mom! 🥰

So instead of wanting the schools who are underfunded to teach our children teach them ourselves. My children are watching me and are very impressed. Excellent comparison story! It seriously maps out the way to go. Everyone needs to also remember that we are promised no tomorrow, I planned on working to age 70 and thought I had many years to make up for being unwise with money buttttttt unfortunately at age 50 I had a massive heart attack and two strokes and that was the end of my work career. I once owned a 10,000 sq ft home and a fleet of cars and boats and vacation home . I now live in a rented single wide trailer and my truck is 21 years old but Im poor of earthly wealth and ill but I am happier then ever and at peace and content, so I give Jesus our savior all the glory. I have shelter, food, warmth but most importantly the love of my two sons that I raised as a single Dad. Im blessed beyond measure. Enjoyed so much your video. God bless you both, Love&prayers.

I do have a suggestion for people that are trying to get out of debt. I decided to do online banking to pay bills. It is so easy to add an extra amount every month to a bill to reduce the debt and put money towards savings. I have paid off all our debt this way. We did have some credit card debt when our kids were in college and I became disabled. No longer. We do have several credit cards, but after a purchase, I pay it right away. I am very frugal, like Elizabeth! Our golden years should be stress free. Actually, our lives should be stress free!! Thank you for your videos. I enjoy them so much.

My grandfather worked for the railroad & then for Dodge but was also a carpenter. ( I'm 64 & he died in the late 80s). Several years before his retirement, he bought some property in Michigan across the Indiana state line to build their retirement home because taxes were cheaper there then. Then whatever money was left over after paying bills for the week, he would buy building supplies with cash & build on weekends. When he retired, he had a new home-mortgage free & sold his original home with cash in the bank! He lived to be in his late 80s & left a lot of cash to his children & grandchildren. He & grandma lived so frugally that I was astounded with the amount of money he left me as a grandchild. He had 6 kids & I can't even count all the rest of us grandchildren! This man had it right! The last quality time I had with him before he passed, we walked the garden while he sneaked a smoke on his pipe! I promised not tell anyone. He was a remarkable man😊💓

Great and very important video, Bill and Elizabeth! Love your haircut, Elizabeth and you are looking so wonderful! It must be fun unpacking your treasures and adding them to your decor. You have wonderful taste in what you have...like your exquisite dishware and the new curtains and lamp. I have a favor to ask...but only if it wouldn't be burdensomefor you and Bill. I too have Celiac and I need to lose about 80 lbs. Is it possible to do some "what I eat in a day" videos for your weight loss? It would mean filming during meal prep time through out the whole day so it might be stressful for you with "Pop" there, but if not, I would appreciate it so much and know some others will enjoy it also. Getting healthier and leaner is so important to reduce blood sugars and inflammation especially as we age. It helps so much with those aches and pain. I think it also helps with depression. Love you guys so much! Say hi and give my love to Leo and Pops. Karen

Thank you both so much for sharing this wonderful story with all of us (and your life experiences & the wonderful scripture verses). I unexpectedly took early disability retirement from my job of 19 years in 2007. My income was reduced by about half. I racked up quite a big debt & paid it off, then got myself into even more debt. I am currently paying off a rather large debt (through debt consolidation) since August of 2018...still have a ways to go yet. I really feel that God led me to this. Even though I have less spendable income than some of my friends, I feel much more content & calm. I am paid around the same times each month (NC & SS Retirement). I meticulously do my budget (with a few charitable contributions) & know that if I spend some money (after all is budgeted for), that it is alright to do so...I am not going into debt. Thank you so much for this vlog & for your wonderful channel. May God continue to bless you both. 💗

I am grateful and thankful for you both and in sharing things that have helped me understand more in how to avoid some situations when making big decisions. My husband and I signed up for an equity loan on our house. Not wise and now we have a house payment, equity payment and car loan. Without the equity on our house it would be paid off by now and we may have had cash down on a car. GOD is my way in and my way out in any situation. As long as I keep Faith, Pray and this is what helps me to become more still by leaning on Him because I know this storm too shall pass...

We also got in the mess of 2008 and landed into a small home for a soft landing after the crash. We managed to pay it off and live on a modest income. Its been 12 years or so now and have been so happy.

Great chat. Sounds like me and my husband. I'm trying everything I can to live off my land I made sure our home was paid off and no other debts except a vehicle. My husband on the other hand if I want something I will just buy it. So me the frugal one has to babysit spending spencer. Lolol great moral to story. I cannot stand waste. Grrr what a pretty little corner you 2. Beautiful! Very nice story to learn by and boy I know that story well. 08 we went into a chapter 13 bankruptcy. Lost everything.. cash is king. Learned a very painful lesson..Live simple live free and oh I love love love the last part.. proverbs and Christs words.. Lifes guiding light... God is good and God Bless that was beautiful ❤😍👍
