Live Steam Ultrasonics Idea for Model Trains

I've had an idea for a while to use a Donut Humidifier to create smoke effects for a loco. So I bought one and cut out the electronics and installed it in a Hornby Class 56 locomotive. For power I use 3xAAA batteries that fit nicely in the DC loco body, and it has a convenient hatch to gain access to put the water in. It just uses water, and uses ultrasonics, not heat, to boil it off and create steam. In this case the water vapour is pretending to be diesel exhaust. I also have an on/off switch installed inside - this was on the body but was a little prone to damage.
I developed this idea over 2 days in April but have only now got around to posting it up.

Cheers for that. I've since found out that someone else has done something with a digital steam loco. So I'm not the only one. But glad I thought and developed this myself. Laurie.

Thanks Andy. Yes I suppose with steam you'd want it to time with the chuff sounds. I just wanted a quick cheap and cheerful solution. This was just a tiral run to see what happens. The loco can get a bit wet too over the chassis, even though I have sealed it, so it may require more trials to get it just right but already it is neat enough and it goes a treat. Laurie.

Hi laurie been trying to sort something out like this myself not very good at electronics but having a go i have come across this unit on ebay which runs off 5v but has built in switch which makes it harder to use you may be able to bypass that with your skills, hopefully you will be able to share with me how to wire this stuff up 👍

Hornby developed their own system and did that.
