I have friends in Montana who are ranchers and farmers. Dogs protect their homes and livestock; cats keep the rodent population at bay. If a dog is immature or untrainable for their purpose, they usually try to rehome it. These people spend thousands of dollars to innoculate livestock, trim horses' hooves, and provide feed for their animals because those animals are their livelihoods; either to be sold or used for their own food. If those animals are injured or seriously ill, owners are likely to call a veternarian to euthanize larger animals; others may be shot. BUT THEY DON'T TAKE PICTURES OR WRITE ABOUT IT WITH PRIDE.
