My mother in law was almost a victim of one of the gift card scams, but the store manager stopped her and a friend intercepted the follow up calls. She has lived in abject fear of it happening again. Since then she has gotten very good at pulling up KZbin videos. I gave her this channel and a few other scam baiters and it has been so cathartic for her to watch you getting these guys back.

I think you forgot that we have elderly people who don't have anyone to inform them to protect themselves or cant even really understand how it can even be a scam. That's why it matters that we have protection from our country for people who cant protect themselves. My own grandmother was scammed and she would not listen to anyone who told her it was a scam because they really got into her head when she was in a vulnerable state. So nobody is asking to be spoon fed anything. I just want there to be some protection for them.

​@@Mataylor17 Yes, we must stop waiting to be saved! 1. Let's get rid of the police. We can just walk around armed all day and shoot anyone who we feel threatened by. 2. Then let's get rid of the fire department. Everyone must keep a long hose at the ready. 3. Finally, do we really need the army, navy, air force, etc.? What have they done for us lately? We can repell any foreign invaders with the guns we will have to carry around all day (see #1). I don't know about you, but that doesn't sound too good to me. I don't want to live in an "every man for themselves" society. I like having the most vulnerable members of our communities protected...and certainly part of that protection involves prevention through education.

It's actually difficult for US law enforcement to do anything to scammers based in other countries, especially when the authorities in those other countries either are corrupt, or just don't care. To some extent, India feels these scammers are pumping their criminal proceeds into the Indian economy. Indian scammers spend their money in India, and are technically "employed". China only cares about scammers when they target people in the PRC. There are very few foreign governments that feel the "rich" American victims of these scams need to be protected from the citizens of their less developed countries.

@PlugInRides I do understand that but these scammers aren't just taking from the rich. Some elderly who are middle class save their whole lives just for it to be gone in a matter of seconds. Would just be nice to see our government trying to do something about it for those that can't protect themselves. The fact that youtubers are doing more to protect people from scammers then our own government speaks volumes. I've seen scammers get arrested in other countries so it's not completely out of the question. Even if they don't get arrested they could easily stop packages or money transfers just by listening in and making some phone calls.

So sorry to hear that. If he hasn't yet, he needs to talk with his local law enforcement, file a report with the FTC, then reach out to his bank. It may be to late to get his money back, but they may be able to get the scammers account shut down. Be advised there are many who will reply to you claiming they can help. Please don't reply as they are scammers. The mods will remove their comment as soon as they can.

My best friend just told me they got scammed months ago for 6000$ and they scared her so bad she drove two hours to a different town to send it to them via bitcoin, and she had to drop out of university afterwards due to losing all her money. My whole life got hacked last year and they've prevented me from getting work and even prevented my kid from getting health insurance when I first applied last year. It is really shameful for us Indians to see so many scammers working from India. These people do not realise they are harming the credibility of their country. You need to take an active role as a citizen and bring light to law enforcement and government and pressure them into putting a stop to this. Most people in India probably don't even know this is going on so it stays under the radar, worse yet, if it is known and a blind eye is still the result.

What's scarier is that scammers are getting more and more innovative with their deception and the police and the govt still continues to be lackadaisical in their approach; and most of the times these scams are not treated with the same seriousness as other heinous crimes like murder, r**e, which gets more attention.

Sorry to hear about that. If you haven't yet, contact your local Law enforcement, SS office, DMV, bank and anything else they have. You can also file a report with the FTC. They should be able to help you and change your information. Anyone other then those listed above who claims they can help are scammers.

I had mentioned before that my good friend lost her sister to suicide when she realized she had been scammed out of her kids' college savings. Now, another person I know got caught up in the Crypto scam. UGH! So, so heartbreaking!
