As a lifetime Leafs fan, let me just say - congratulations. So awesome on many levels. Hall of Famer, Team Canada, Captain of Detroit returns home. Having a manager of such distinction is of incredible value. For all the young players on the team to any free agents looking for a home in a few years, what an advantage it is to have Steve Y as the person in charge. My son played on a team with Red Kelly's grandson for a few years and I got to meet him many times and sit with him and watch games. Looking forward to future battles.

It sucks that the GM that brought us 3 cups is on his way out by 2020 but its great we got a great GM thats better in this salary cap era of hockey. Ken Holland was the best non salary cap era GM Yzerman is the best salary cap era GM.
@dangermartin695 жыл бұрын
He also put the team in a horrible cap situation because he never figured out how to work under a salary cap. Giving players way more than they were worth, keeping guys because he liked them, even though their time had passed. Holland is the most overrated GM in history. Go back and look at some of his stellar moves: His very first move as GM was signing Uwe Krupp to a 4 year, 16 million dollar contract with no insurance and Krupp was known for serious back problems. He barely played and Ilitch had to pay him anyway. Waives Kyle Quincey to keep a 42 year old Chelios, then gives away a first round pick to get him back, which turned out to be Tampa's current goalie. The list goes on.

From somebody who’s a diehard Bruins fan, but a hockey fan in general, this is great for Detroit. How awesome would it be if you had Detroit, Boston, Toronto, and Montreal, all competing down to the final 5 games of the season for the playoffs? That’s great for the sport of hockey. It’s like, even though most might not like this, what’s the MLB playoffs without having the Red Sox and Yankees squaring off to go to the ALCS or World Series? It’s great for the sport and it’s great for entertainment. That’s why Yzerman going back to Detroit is a huge deal big picture.

Thanks for stepping aside Holland, you brought us 3 cups, you did your job, I hope yzerman can match you and maybe bring us more, but this is what the red wings need, on top of it being a great story for detroit yzerman is just a great general manager, and he's agressive in the trade market, something Holland lacked, if yzerman brings us back to empire status i can die happy, I was born in 96 so before 2013 I only knew us as playoff contenders and these last couple of years have been painfull, when datsyuk left it just became hard to watch, if Stevie can build a team around larkin mantha and athanasiou and get us a solid starter a stanley Cup will be within reach, the future is a little brighter...

I heard that the wings are stacked with prospects and youth. theyll win a cup five years tops.
@AS8Cend5 жыл бұрын
We need a franchise player. Hughes, Kakko, & Podkolzin all have that potential, with Kakko probably being the most NHL ready. If Steve can trade into the top 3, we can expedite this rebuild. We would have to swap the #6 & give up any combination of one or multiple second rounders, future high pick(s), a high end prospect, and/or someone on the roster of value. If Steve thinks one of them has the ceiling to be a generational talent, then a future first or, dare I say it, a Mantha or Athanasiou should even be considered in the deal. It would be a high risk-high reward type of deal that, unlike Holland, Steve has shown he's willing to make. We have the assets (draft picks & foward prospects) to move up. If fans want a bold move, that would be it. Shelling out dough & term to players in free agency isn't the way to compete long term in today's NHL. You want a great player, you either draft & develop one or trade for one without handicapping the team in the future.
@bumpinugly49855 жыл бұрын
Good points but I'd disagree. it's a deep draft, number six will be a worthy talent. Go for depth as opposed to a single top shelf prospect
