No, ravishing actually also means plundering/robbing someone. Stolas (on multiple occasions) assumes Blitzø is there to rob him and even explains the reason behind those assumptions. The only time that Stolas actually flirts is when he asks Blitzø "How afraid should i be?" in response to Blitzø saying "No no, i kill people now". Stolas didn't expect Blitzø's highly seductive answer ("Well how afraid do you wanna be?") to his question, and therefore tried to change the topic.

In the book that Stolas threw at the bed was a page on Asmodean crystals, which are used by succubuses to access the living world. So supposedly Stolas was looking into giving Blitz a way to access the living world without borrowing his grimoire.

I also saw the less probable theory that Stolas used that page to finally realize he was being used. In S1E7, he finds out that Blitzø used to date Verosika, a succubi. Succubi have access to the living world through the crystals and Blitzø says, "I kill people now," meaning he had a way there before he got Stolas' book. So Stolas may have had hope that Blitzø liked him but that would show he dates people for access to the living world. Idk, the common Asmodean crystal theory is probably what they were going for but I still thought this was cool.

The "comfortable lie" he was singing about was the fact he was fooling himself that this was a relationship and not a transaction for sexual favors. So the real test is when he gives Blitzo a permanent way to the mortal realm, does he stay because he caught feelings, or does he go his own way now that he's not on the hook over the grimoire?

ik i'm late but fun fact: the VA of Stolas insisted on singing "Stolas's song" in 1 go. They did a total of 4 takes, and in the final take (the one used in the episode), the VA was in fact crying, as was everyone else in the room.

About the whole Stolas immediately trying to get with Blitzø in a sexual manner upon first meeting after years, that's not exactly the case. I'm not sure if you missed it but at 24:50 Stolas says that he was teasing about his advances towards him once Blitzø flirted back at him; meaning that his true intentions wasn't to actually do anything like that in the first place. I believe that Blitzø only went along with the idea to sneakily get the book, but he saw no other way around it than taking it after Stolas was either distracted or asleep due to their sexual encounter. Before you ask, yes I am a stolitz shipper, BUT I do understand that as of right now their relationship is very toxic. I'm sure relatively soon Stolas will break their deal with the book and he will try to find a way for Blitzø to still go to Earth with Asmodeon crystals, which is an entry in the book Stolas was looking at during his song this episode.

You're partially correct. The only time that Stolas flirted was when he asked "How afraid should i be?" (before Blitzø flirts back) in response to Blitzø saying "No no, i kill people now", not when he assumed that Blitzø was there to ravish him (ravish also means plundering/robbing someone).

Not only was it teasing but keep in mind he had just gotten drunk and was probably letting a lot slip that he wouldn't normally. Regardless it's pretty fucked up for him to be put in that situation in the first place. I think it speaks to how Stolas never really grew out of how he was as a child with underdeveloped social skills. After having to put up such a proper front all the time, when he does genuinely express himself, it's like he doesn't have any social filter.

What I think is that with Helluva Boss we're witnessing a love story that's at the center of everything. The series started presenting their relationship merely as "transactional fucking," as Blitz put it, but it gets much deeper than that because both characters are very complex. So, what I'm seeing is the story of an owl demon prince and a lower class imp who meet as kids, become friends, and as they meet again as adults they repeat the same pattern: Stolas is smitten with Blitz, Blitz takes advantage of this to gain something he needs but, in the process, he genuinely starts to enjoy Stolas' company as well. They have to break this pattern, and we have reached that breaking point. They've had sex, we know Stolas has a crush with Blitz since they were kids, and we know Blitz has developed feelings as well, but now they have to actually do something about it if they want to start a healthy relationship. They have to work on their traumas and acknowledge their true feelings, and communicate with each other. They set up Stolitz as a toxic relationship at the beginning, yes, but we will see how they'll get together as a healthy couple in a romantic relationship. Just looking at the official merchandise we can see them being happy together; it's like seeing their future. We know that will happen, we're just waiting to see their journey and how they get there.

I assume royalty's divorce is seen as shameful, and for Stella, it would be better to stay in this fake marriage for appearance's sake. Blitzo was bought only for one day to "cheer up" Stolas. (Who is maybe gay from the beginning and forced into a straight marriage) The Stolitz ship could work, but in a long way with lots of hard work on both parts. Blitz is broken and can't handle a relationship emotionally. Until that is resolved it would never work.

Nice review, definitely agree that the Stolas backstory would've been nice to have in season 1. It's clear that Stolas and Blitz can't function as a healthy couple at the current point in the story, but I still think they're redeemable if they spend time apart to work on themselves and eventually grow to understand each other. In the song near the end of the episode, Stolas finally recognizes that their relationship was a farce, so it looks like he'll be cutting ties with Blitz in the foreseeable future. I will say that even though their relationship has been toxic, in the framing of this episode it seems that his encounter with Blitz was a catalyst for Stolas to stand up for himself after being subservient to his family's wishes his entire life. Without the rush of self-confidence he got from cheating on Stella, he'd probably still be stuck in that miserable marriage.

19:13-19:34 They hinted at their unhappy marriage back in episode 2, when Stolas tried to talk to Octavia in the funhouse. He was stammering trying to find a sentence to start with, but he did say enough to get the audience thinking to fill in his feelings: "She's always been-" (a witch?), "I haven't been-" (happy?), "We weren't-" (ever in love?). Those fractured sentences aren't from the change in their relationship after Blitz came into the picture; they're feelings he's held about Stella for longer than that. 20:19 Yep, props to her. I've come to find out she was in Brandon Rogers's skits, as Lady Worthington, part of the arrogant British married couple, so Brandon already had the perfect voice lined up for Stella. -Also it's said owls are animals that mate for life, so it makes sense Stolas would only be aroused by someone he has a bond with; he's just extremely limited in those social connections to one right now.

I read a fanfic where Stolas realized he needed to stop expecting his happiness to fall into his lap and actually take effort to work towards it. He gave Blitzo and his employees the same kinds of crystals the succubi used to get to the human world in their episode and released Blitzo from their binding, and the two agreed that they would still meet every month just to hang out as friends. If that's the route they go, then I can kinda see it working because it eliminates the power dynamic and would allow them to potentially form a more genuine relationship that could maaaaybe bloom into something more.

As many people have pointed out, Stolas was JOKING about the sexual stuff. He simply has no friends and therefore sucks at conversation, ends up saying inappropriate shit in those circumstances. This isn't me just extrapolating btw, you would've heard him say it if you hadn't been blindsided by your disgust. As for the "get together part", the show is actually hinting at the opposite happening with Stolas realizing he misread their whole dynamic and trying to end it by giving Blitzo a different way of accessing the human world. (Someone on twitter translated the book he leaves open on the table, that's where that info is from.) Finally, their whole relationship is complicated, you're focusing way too much on the negative aspects, sometimes making up some that aren't even in the narrative due to your biases. I think the show can go either way with it and it would still make for a good story as long as it is handled properly, doesn't feel like audience pandering at all imo.

Episode 2. Stolas's conversation with Octavia. He addresses his relationship with Stella, and he starts saying "we weren't in..." which implies he was about to say they weren't in love. Also about Stolas asking for s*x the first time he and Blitzo meet after all that time, he was really drunk at that point, so he didn't even really have much of a filter on what he said and wasn't entirely himself.

i don't afree with you that Blitz doesn't have feelings for Stolas. i think that, at first, he didn't, but then grew to have feelings and because of his issues with commitment and his inability to accept love and affection, he pushes those feelings away and distences himself from anyone he gets that close to. he may also think that Stolas doesn't like him that way, and only wants him for sex, which explains why it hurts him so much when Stolas tries to "act like what they have is anything more than (stolas) wanting to fuck him". this is shown in several scenes, if you look at the way Blitz looks at Stolas in the end of ep 6 when he's holding his face (right before he yells at them), as well as Blitz's trip when stolas says "are you afraid to love people, Blitzy?" and the way Blitz looks at him in that scene as well.

I think I'm okay with Stolas' backstory being in S2 only because it seems like we're gonna see a little of everyone's backstory in this season. We know we're meant to meet Stella's brother Andrealphus at some point and Blitzø and Fizz playing with the balloon horses foreshadowed Fizz's future. Would I have liked to know the marriage was arranged in the beginning? Yeah, kind of. Am I fine with it being in S2. Yeah, kind of. I think S1's episodes did a better job of pulling me in and now I'm sticking around for backstories, as opposed to having to rely on pulling people in with backstories and hoping they stick around for interesting stuff. Kinda like TOH, where they spent almost a season of introducing things before the show finally got interesting. I think the way S1 is does a good job of introducing without taking away from the interesting stuff.

Perhaps Stolas' depressed marriage days prompted him to look for another way out. His mind was cloudy, he had been deprived of the feeling of love for years. If they both loved each other, Blitzo could have saved him from this depressive life, but now he realized that there was nothing between him and Blitzo. However, what happens in the next chapters is up to the author.

Hey! Love your reactions, but wanted to point out, Stolas actually WAS just joking when they first got into the room. A few youtubers have pointed this out, but over time if you look at his actions through the series up until now and then this episode, its most likely that Stolas only acts the way he does because (going off his own experience with Blitzø) he thinks that's how Blitzø WANTS him to be. He's basically being whoever it takes to keep his first ever friend, and now real love, around. It's even sadder when you realize he knows it's not working anymore and he hates that he went along with it.

Btw even if a lot of people said that i wanted to point out that stolas was just teasing with the “you were here to ravish me” thing, you can clearly see from his attitude later that he is indeed treating Blitzø as an old friend (“you could have asked a visit” “over two decades since i last saw you are you still a circus clown?” “I recall how you liked making an entrance”) and trying to catch up with him normally, , until Blitzø started to flirt back way too hard, and even in that context he was confused and a little unsure (“i was teasing i don’t actually-..” “what are you doing i barely remember your name!”). So yeah, we can say he started it but just jokingly, is actually Blitzø the one who messed things up this way somewhat taking advantage of him to steal the book, and yeah i agree that whole scene is really uncomfortable. Also “stop trying to fuck your only friend” he’s not only a friend to stolas. He is of course a friend but its obvious stolas has a little crush on him, even since they were little. That (within the alchool) explains how he’s so into what happens next. To answer your question: I do think Season 1 should've made more emphasis on how much of a bitch Stella was, but there were some details that (along with some theory-crafting I saw around) made me think more of Stolas who, until that point, I also considered one-dimensional and not very interesting (though I didn't think he was gross because... hey, Blitzo was using him as well).

I don't agree completely. I want to believe they can form a non-toxic relationship in the future; but it's true that it's very toxic right now. Also vivzie was in a toxic relationship as well, so I believe the direction you hope it's going is canon. I know it's unlikely, but I really hope they somehow heal before the end of the series to eventually have an actual relationship; because I feel like both of them subconsciously want that. Unfortunately, I hope if they start anew with their relationship and then actually put in the effort to be better to eachother, eventually they will both become better as a whole, after realizing what they could do to have a better relationship with others. But that's unlikely. :C

As someone who's queer i don't understand why people are so into Blitzo x Stolas, the only explanation is probably people being so desperate for gay relationships in media that they thirst over an extremely toxic relationship

The way I see it if they really do want to pin Stolas and Blitz together, then I feel like they need to go on their own "journey to find themselves" if that makes sense. They both need to figure out what is wrong with themselves and work at fixing it, maybe go to therapy (definitely go to therapy) only then would I be comfortable with the two of them getting together. That way they've worked on their own problems and can now work on helping each other with theirs. I do agree with you though, at this point these two really should not get together. I appreciate your honesty in this reaction and it sucks that the fans of this show give you such a hard time.

i wasn't gonna come back to this series because of my beliefs and how uncomfortable some of these episodes made me but i was curious and i have to say i'm glad i tried again because these last two episodes have shown me that it isn't all sex jokes and excessive swearing. there is an interesting story going on, even if right now it's about a toxic and gross relationship and the struggles and issues caused by it. i agree Ryan, they probably shouldn't be together because of the twisted nature of their motives, but it certainly presents an interesting dilemma

Great reaction, it's a little jarring but nice at the same time, to see such a contrasting opinion on Stolas and Stolitz. As a hard-core stolitz shipper, I ship these two because of the fuck ton of potential they have as a couple. Currently, I don't want them to even think about each other without un-fucking themselves up. Like Blitz needs to work out so much shit on an emotional level, i could write a whole thesis but no one wants to read that. Stolas needs to finally divorce that hag once and for all, clear things up with Octavia, and introspect a little bit on how he's unkowingly condescending, which most importantly for Stolas, really rubs Blitz the wrong way, and one of the main reasons that's keeping Blitz away from him. They need to better themselves for each other for any relationship to work but BOY, AM I ROOTING SO HARD FOR THIS TO HAPPEN OMG.

Personally I had very mixed opinions on this episode. The “stickler for source material” part of me is very incredibly disappointed that they made Stolas around the same age as Blitzo and not, you know, a few thousand years old, for starters, and I’m also just not a fan of the whole “meeting as kids” thing. But also, and I can’t believe I didn’t think of this until you mentioned it, yes, it would have been very good to have some of this information in Season 1, if for no other reason than to make Stolas’s advances on Blitzo slightly less uncomfortable. But then again, if they’d done that, it might’ve made Blitzo (who is still my favorite character despite everything, I love that his initial reaction to being told he’s gonna spend the day with a Goetia as a kid is “ew”, and I genuinely thought it was hilarious that his initial plan after going for the seduction ploy was to tie Stolas up and then just _leave him there)_ seem like even more of a dick than he actually is, and not as the fucked up, self-hating individual who craves a connection but has no idea how to go about maintaining a healthy one we know him to be. Also with Blitzo’s dad implying that, at the time, his mom needed help that they couldn’t really afford, I’m very intrigued there and way more invested in that (and in his and Fizzarolli’s friendship and how something that cute soured so badly) than Stella turning out to be so one-dimensional. Basically I did enjoy the episode overall, but I definitely had complaints. Honestly, I generally do like your reactions. So what if your opinions are unpopular? They’re still _your_ opinions, and you have every right to them, and your honesty in your reviews is so thorough, it’s pretty refreshing. And I love that you actually _laugh!_ Stuff is funny and you don’t just chuckle, you bust a gut, and I love it (you have no idea how much I wanted to laugh at that unfitting, exaggerated cartoon blinking noise that happened when Stolas finally put his talons down, I can’t believe you went and did it for me haha). People who enjoy the show but are unafraid to give their criticisms are essential in these communities (especially one as full of “this creator can do no wrong” as Viv’s). You keep doing you, Ryan 👍

@DarthKingededbobo The thing about Stella tho is she probably acted nice with Octavia whenever she had to spend time with her child but over time being close with Stolas, she still fed her un-adjacent and insatiable behavior so when her facade was showing cracks at points in that time and accounting for Octavia being a young person, Octavia likely assumed her mother became mentally unwell towards Stolas and likely saw Stolas as the cause since she’s still young she doesn’t exactly know why her parents are acting the way they are as she can’t completely handle that shift in her life and on top of that the affair as a situation in her family is only making her mother more strained from being a decent parent

I will be the first to admit the Blitzo and Stolas ship is definitely gross and toxic as both characters are completely broken emotionally stunted individuals, though. The only way for these two to hook up in a healthy way would through some like miraculous (and improbable if it was RL) emotional growth and honesty with each other.

You do realize that Stolas has always had a crush on Blitz from childhood. I think for Stolas, he genuinely wants to be with Blitz and not the angler you claimed of him. Honestly, all the stuff that's been revealed in this episode I feel has been kind of obvious from the start. And I think it's obvious that their relationship is supposed to get better and not stay toxic. I think you are right about how the fanbase sees the relationship currently but I do believe it's being set up for improvement. I don't think they would show us their internal struggles, otherwise.

This is what gaslighting feels like. Remember back in the pilot and Episode 1 (and maybe episode 2?) when Stolas was entirely different and there were no hints at all of this backstory or the interest in the relationship other than sex on Stolas's side and the book on Blitzo's? Then, suddenly with no warning they went from transactional relationship to Stolas and Blitzo maybe caring about/wanting more from each other. Now this episode goes ahead and recontextualises everything, again with no foreshadowing. Suddenly Stolas and Blitzo embody the "Promised One" trope (having met as children and sharing a short but memorable experience), Stolas now had a crush on Blitzo since childhood and even though he started out as the really creepy sex Owl, now it's actually Blitzo's fault how their relationship started. Well, I don't buy it. There's a slim chance this was the plan all along, but they ruined the believability of it, by botching the presentation. This comes out to me more as an attempt to make excuses against criticisms such like yours (which they might not have minded at first, if the plan was different then) and mirroring the Stolas fanbase's desperate attempts to make him look better after his introduction established him as a not-so-great-looking guy. The most annoying part is that it seems the fans and most people really are eating it up, accepting it and I can imagine praising it even as a great twist. I didn't hate Stolas. I didn't like him particularly either, but I did enjoy watching you hate on him. But to see now the show so blatantly try to change his image without doing any of the proper buildup, it grates on me. I'm almost certain there was a shift in directions at some point, possibly after the pilot, but likely also halfway through Season 1 (mayhap after seeing the fan reactions to Stolas?). I agree that some of the details about Stolas (his marriage especially) should have been clear earlier on, though I don't think the choice to leave the extensive backstory for later was necessarily wrong, however, appropriate foreshadowing should have been laid out and taking it a little more slowly would have been preferable. However, unfortunately for the makers of the show, they probably didn't have the ability to do either. 1. If plans changed halfway, they couldn't foreshadow and 2. being the high-budget KZbin animation series that it is, Helluva Boss can't really afford to take things slowly and build the story one unassuming episode at a time; I think that's a big reason why a lot of its aspects suffer (for instance, why its supposed comedic slice-of-life-y premise got hijacked by plot and turning Helluva Boss into the Stolas Show). Overall I rate this episode 2/2 Stolas songs I hate and find boring. I know Vivziepop likes to insert songs in her series, but damn why is it that Stolas gets two? But I liked your reaction/review. For once, your impression of Helluva Boss seemed (mostly) milder than mine, so that's something. But hey Ryan, there's still hope. Maybe Stolas will die before Stolas and Blitzo's toxic ship can sail.
