I became aware of this song when seeing the May It Last documentary. My wife, my daughter and I all loved it. Later that summer, my wife's 9 year fight with a nasty autoimmune disease finally left her with heart failure. This song went from a beautiful song that I happened to like, to a truly meaningful song in a way no other song in my life has been. I finally had to stop listening to it as it would leave me sobbing at traffic lights as I went to be with Sue at the hospital. After she passed, we were putting together a memorial service with songs and poems as we scattered her ashes at sea. My daughter said "you know we have to include that song". I said, I cannot possibly get through the service if we play that, but I knew she was right. It wrecked me, but we scattered her ashes on a beautiful fall day as this played. It still kills me to hear it.

No song I can think of, by anyone, so eloquently and beautifully captures the notion of a life and a life's reflections than No Hard Feelings. Can one let go of one's transgressions and leave the spinning orb in a state of completeness and forgiveness, with No Hard Feelings? When I first heard this tune I was flabbergasted, it brought welcome and unfamiliar tears too. As a songwriter, I try to get to the essence of an idea, character, or story, and this song is a testament to the power of song. One song can change a life, this one did for me.

It was played this weekend at the funeral of my friend’s 30 yr old daughter who battled gastric cancer the last 2 years. These were one of her favorite performers. After the concluding prayer was said this song was played and as it came to its ending the pallbearers gathered, escorted the casket out followed by the family. Chills from all that were there. Her spirit was felt by everyone. I immediately downloaded the song & listened on repeat to the graveside.

I' feel so blessed to have you two to watch, listen to and share love with through your music. in my dream last night(May 8th 2018) I spent the day hanging out with the two of you . You asked me to join you on stage and sing with you. I don't know what song we sang together, but it wouldn't surprise me it was No Hard Feelings. When my body won't hold me anymore And it finally lets me free Will I be ready? When my feet won't walk another mile? And my lips give their last kiss goodbye? Will my hands be steady when I lay down my fears, my hopes, and my doubts? The rings on my fingers, and the keys to my house With no hard feelings? When the sun hangs low in the west And the line in my chest won't be kept held at bay any longer When the jealousy fades away And it's ash and dust for casual lust And it's just hallelujah And love in thoughts and love in the words Love in the songs they sing in the church And no hard feelings Lord knows they haven't done much good for anyone Kept me afraid and cold With so much to have and hold Mmm, hmm When my body won't hold me anymore And it finally lets me free Where will I go? Will the trade winds take me south through Georgia grain? Or tropical rain? Or snow from the heavens? Will I join with the ocean blue? Or run into a savior true? And shake hands laughing And walk through the night, straight to the light Holding the love I've known in my life And no hard feelings Lord knows they haven't done much good for anyone Kept me afraid and cold With so much to have and hold Under the curving sky I'm finally learning why It matters for me and you To say it and mean it too For life and its lovely nest And all of its ugliness Good as it's been to me I have no enemies I have no enemies I'll have no enemies I have no enemies
