I' would like to try being vegan in Iqaluit without having to bring all my own food: that would be a real challenge. Longyearben was hard enough. In general, places far north of the Arctic Circle can be tricky, as can places in the former USSR, unless you speak Russian.

We ALL have to stop flying, driving and eating animals and their secretions. Veganism isn’t enough on its own in the 10 years we have left( if it’s not too late already) we have to change every aspect of our lifestyles to Sustainable Ethical ones! Even the late, great Visionary and Pioneer, Co founder of the Vegan Society( 1944), ‘Kathleen Jannaway’,Said ‘Veganism isn’t enough’, and founded ‘Movement for Compassionate Living’(MCL), in the 80’s to link Veganism with a Sustainable (Tree based) future.

Consider staying in Haarlem and taking the train, 10-20 mins, to Amsterdam. Beautiful beaches, laid-back quiet lifestyle, and more economical. Fantastic museums including Teylers! All the architectural interest of Amsterdam without the crowds. Haven't stayed in Amsterdam since I found Haarlem :D

Guyss I don’t know about the other cities mentioned(I believe they’re accurate), but for Turin(I live here as a vegan) I was so shocked to see it here because yes there are a couple vegan places but it’s definetely not vegan friendly at all, most of the people don’t even know what a vegan is! The only vegan foods you can get at a regular restaurant are marinara pizza and tomato sauce pasta..

I was thinking this. I really enjoyed my time in Lisbon trying all the different vegan places. They also had an organic food market near where I stayed so I cooked loads of my own food. Porto had some lovely vegan places as well :) If you come to London you have to try Unity Diner!! It's an amazing vegan restaurant with all different kinds of food whos profits go to an animal sanctuary and spreading awareness about the animal agriculture industries. It's co-owned by animal rights activist earthling Ed.

Agree with most, but I have found it very hard to find vegan places in Cape Town, Kyoto and Turin. Although it has been a couple of years I visited the first two. Nonetheless there are many cities that definitely provide more vegan options, Tel Aviv being maybe the most vegan friendly in the world for instance.

Wow that was a fabulous list! I've only been to a couple of them. I think you could have hit couple better places in Portland Oregon and I think Montreal Canada should be on the list! I live in Berlin, but I hardly eat out since I eat whole foods. The vegan food scene is very fast food ish here - which is of course a good thing for various reasons, but not if you don't eat oil, added sugar or added salt. It's still nice to see a lot of likeminded people in the general population. You can see people with vegan slogans on their clothes etc fairly often as well stumble upon an anonymous for the voiceless event (or similar) without even planning to. Rock on, Berlin!

How about Vietnam? They have a strong vegan local culture. They call vegan/vegetarian food "chay", which are almost always vegan. Since most Asians are lactose intolerant, and so dairy is not a tradition. Very rarely chay has eggs. You just have to ask.
