@@millmoormichael6630 we needed depth more than anything. That 08/09 defense of Carra, Hypia, Agger and Skrytel along with Aurelio and Arbeloa was pretty good. Not the best backline in the League or but it was certainly solid. When you look at many of our options from the bench, it left a lot to be desired, especially when some of our players, like Torres, picked up injuries that season, which was our main Achilles heel Our forward depth was downright atrocious aside from Torres and Kuyt. We also bought Robbie Keane in summer 2008 and sent him back in the January window even though we could've done with the depth that ended up costing us dearly. Our full back depth wasn't very good either and some of the midfield depth was poor as well As an XI the squad was absolutely world class on its day but as an overall team, it just wasn't as good as the Liverpool teams that came before and after it. People also forget that while that was one of the best Liverpool teams ever assembled, that era also had one of the best Barca, United and Chelsea teams of all time as well

Torres leaving for Chelsea was my first ever true heartbreak in terms of a player leaving, and I survived Henrik "The King of Kings" Larsson leaving Celtic when I was 7. The difference is in how they left. Henrik left by mutual consent after 7 dedicated years, Torres forced his way out. Still one of my all-time favourites regardless.

gerrard is one of the most underrated player even though he’s still considered as legend. if he played in superstar team, he could be considered as best midfielder of all time with every award winning.

At his peak he was the most complete player/midfielder of all time. If I had to clone a player to make up a complete team (other than the GK) I'd choose Gerrard. I'd be confident in that team being able to beat any other team put in front of it.
