A pooch who was called "dangerous" on the Animal Planet show "It's Me or The Dog!" has been cooling it in a Westchester canine jail for biting a neighbor. Casper, a 109-pound Presa Canario, has been caged in a shelter for six months as his owner has fought to save his life while facing $80,000 in fines and threats of eviction for violating his condo association's no-dog rule. A Westchester County judge recently spared Casper's life, but not his testicles. Besides ruling that Casper must be neutered, Greenburg Town Judge Walter Rivera also ordered the dog see a "board certified animal behaviorist" and not go out in public without a muzzle. "He's not a bad dog. He doesn't deserve this," said Casper's owner, Bram Leinwand, of Arsdley. He vowed to appeal. After the show aired the Leinwands heard from their condo board, which demanded the family get rid of Casper or face a $500-a-day fine. The board, which in 2009 gave the family permission to keep the dog, has put a $45,000 lien on the Leinwands' home and fines have now mounted to $80,000. The situation went from bad to worse, when Casper bit a visitor on the arm in the condominium parking lot, piercing the man's jacket and pricking his skin. Cops seized Casper, who has been in a New Rochelle shelter ever since. The family gets to visit him once a week. Bram Leinwand said he fears no one will adopt Casper unless Judge Rivera reverses his decision to label the dog "dangerous." He said he's willing to spend his last penny to get justice for Casper, but lamented, "(This) may ultimately prove to be a death sentence."

Well, it didn't end well. Eric didn't become more responsible, and a while after this episode was completed, Casper did bite someone. Victoria got blamed for having dealt inapropriately with Casper although she didn't have anything to do with what happened later. Casper had to go into a shelter for half a year, and Eric's family had to pay a fortune for lawyers. Casper wasn't put down after this ordeal because of a lenient judge, but he had a very unpleasant time in the shelter. I don't know what actually happened to Casper later in his life, but I doubt that there was a real happy end. Eric should never have been allowed to own such a potentially dangerous dog breed. And Victoria's initially negative assessment of Eric was actually quite astute. Eric didn't prove her wrong although he had promised to do so. Eric became a professional poker player later... All this information can be found easily because this was one of Victoria's least successful cases, and quite a few local newspapers carried this story. Edit: Thanks for all the likes ☺️☺️☺️ It shows that many of you really care about the dogs and their owners who have been trained and educated by Victoria - many times the owners were more difficult to train than their 🐕🐕🐕 I really would've liked to find out what happened to Casper after Eric was allowed to take him home from the shelter! But once the public attention had diminished, I couldn't find Casper's name anywhere. I want to say one thing about Eric: he never should've been allowed to own a dog like Casper, but I think that he really loved Casper. Eric and his father spent a lot of money on legal procedures because they wanted to take Casper home again. And maybe, it's a a good sign, that I couldn't find out more about Casper. If he had been involved in another serious biting incident, it might've generated again a certain amount of public attention. If anyone knows more, I would very much appreciate if he or she would tell us what happened later!

I hear people who own pitbulls say what big "babies" they are. That's true as long as they're trained to be confident, happy pets. So many people like this kid get powerful breeds to protect them and their property. There was a sad story in our local news a few years back about a man who died protecting his little girl from a pitbull. The dog turned on him and he died from injuries. The owner lost a dog, and a little girl lost her father. Fault of an irresponsible pet owner.

Good words. With the correct training, every breed can be "the perfect pet/companion". It's really sad when an entire breed is demonised because of what's happened due to some irresponsible owners. Like I've met a rottweiler, Coco, who was the sweetest girl I've met. Compared to the old man who owned a jack russel when I lived with gramps, that thing tried to tear my leg apart for no reason, I was on my way to school, met them on the forest trail, stood off to the side so the man wouldn't slip, and the dog went for it, I didn't even look at it. The man said it was my fault, grumpy old codger...

This is why I think we need tighter regulations around owning dogs across the board. They're not toys. They're living creatures and their quality of life is heavily dependent on the competence of the one raising them. Ultimately who pays the price for these failures? It's not the owner, it's the dog. On the flip side there definitely should be more of an effort to make the knowledge of dog training more accessable. Many people know the basics, but far too many people lack the skills individuals like Victoria possess.

@hamsterpotato there isn't anything wrong with an agressive dog so long as the person who owns them is skilled enough to be in constant control, agressive dogs can only be in public muzzled if at all, you need to have high inescapable fences, the ground must be secured to ensure that escape is impossible and you must have secure, sheltered kennels to lock the dogs up when you have guests, they can serve a purpose as long as you are aware of the danger they pose and are prepared to never be able to share your dog with the world, most people don't need that kind of dog, but that only means that there need to be stricter requirements for owning more agression prone dog breeds. My pup is an amstaff mix, they are prone to dog agression, I don't take him to dog parks because he tries to dominate other males, he loves people and is fine otherwise, but I have to do what's best for him and other people's pets, that's what it means to be responsible.

He didn't neuter or train him after this episode and the dog bit someone and was taken from him. There's articles about it (look up 'caspar presa canario') and Victoria had a statement on her website too. Eric's behaviour was clearly an act and he only ever cared about himself, not the wellbeing of the dog.

You know neutering is not the solution for everything, i've heard English and american people preach it as a must do yet it's not always needed, depends on the dog. A good training goes way beyond a simple " balls cut"

Neuturing doesnt change dog behavior. Its for health reasons and not to breed.
@Sleipnirseight
@Sleipnirseight 4 жыл бұрын
@@areswalker5647 Yes, obviously good training trumps everything. But neutering/spaying an animal most certainly changes behavior. Hormones have an extremely powerful influence on our behavior and development. If you've ever spent time with an intact cat for example, male or female, it's quite apparent. Dogs, humans, etc. are just as influenced. (I say this having a degree in Biology and as a teacher of both Biology and Anatomy.)
@areswalker5647
@areswalker5647 4 жыл бұрын
@@Sleipnirseight that's true but not all problems humans have with their dogs are being caused by hormones, in most cases they are just a result from a bad training, lack of exercise and socialization. Things that, neutering or not, won't change if the human doesn't act on them. And neutering is still an invasive procedure so if the dog needs it that's fine, but if the dog doesn't it's best to leave it. I'm not saying "never neuter a dog" or "you have to always neuter a dog", i'm saying look at the dog, get why he has the issues he has and only then decide what's best for him.

But the judge ordered [sorry, i'm not shure If that's the right Word, english is not my first language] that he has to be neutered, the guy has to go to a trainer with him, and he has to wear a muzzle If he is outside. So everything he promised Victoria to do month bevor..
