Doesn't it give you goose bumps to look back on this?! You had $10,000 to buy a home. You found your place for exactly that amount. You needed that $3000 plus to renovate and out of nowhere the money shows up...wow! God has given you precisely what you have needed at the exact time you've needed it. Elizabeth, I notice that you say the words "thankful" and "grateful" consistently in your videos. You take a negative and spin it to a positive. I think that is so important in our lives. Much love to you both! I am so happy that you are on here to inspire so many in so many ways.

I so agree Feralgal46. The attitude of being thankful and grateful will affect how we see and receive life as it happens.

God is so faithful if he is first. My sis and I needed $17K to pay off our house before we could sell it. Our mother had passed on months before, and we didn't expect any inheritance, but we got $17K, to our shock. We had needed $4K to pay off the car, and that is what my sister's tax return was. When we needed to find another house, because the old neighborhood took a down turn and wasn't safe anymore, we were led to the very modest, SAFE house we have now. We had a specific amount we could afford, and this house (cute little manufactured home) cost exactly that amount even tho it was worth a little more. Each time we had a need (new roof this year, that's what the tax return was) we were very grateful. We sold the old house for exactly what we needed to get out of the sale to not take a loss, even tho it was worth more. The Lord does provide. We've had car problems come up out of nowhere, and each time it has been in a safe place, small bill for repairs. It's amazing to watch how God works. I think the reason he doesn't work this way for everyone is that you have to give him the glory before, trust in him, and know you will be all right. He may not provide a dollar more, but we always manage to have just enough. If we wanted something and could not afford it, and didn't need it, we knew the money wouldn't materialize. You get what you need, when you need it. Now I'm learning how to better steward my side of things, and we will start to prep, since that's what we are lacking right now. We always put aside some, but after my finances are settled, we can really prepare for the future. :) And we have Bill and Elizabeth showing the way to be grateful in all circumstances. God is so good!

We are now so happy living in a 900 square foot cottage on 10 acres of paradise. In our old house, our bedroom was the exact size of our current cottage, 900 square feet. Who needs that enormous of a bedroom? Not me. I’m so happy living here. I’m glad to be a part of your community. 🦋💜😃

Love it. We have a 1200sqft ranch on 5 acres that's been paid for in full this year. I'm using that money now to sure up our self-reliance. I wish I'd got on board with it 20 years ago but I'm on it now. They say " A good man will plant trees who's shade he will never sit under" or something like that.

I worked as a temp in the mortgage industry. I was very suspicious of the things that were going on. When the company moved and I could not commute that far I was let go. Secretly I was relieved because I knew something was brewing.Three years later the crash came and I was ok. I felt for the people that were caught up in that mess. It taught me to live on less and be more frugal.

We have a similar story to you both. My husband is 75 and still working a difficult and demanding job. I know that we are all personally responsible for our decisions. With that being said, I do believe that those lending institutions, to a large degree built that house of cards. I think we all have been operating under the delusion that the financial system set up for us would allow us to enter our retirement years with a paid off home and all would be well. What we didn’t understand is that we were building our own house of cards on the bank’s house of cards, and so on. It’s an endless loop. ‘08 has turned out to be a blessing in disguise and a cautionary tale. I hope our youngsters learn from this. Ten years later we are back on our feet and my husband is about to retire...finally.

Living Tiny helps with your relationship...it gives you the ultimate closeness that does not happen when you ramble around in a large him. When my mom was a kid, they had three bedrooms... one for 5 boys, one for 6 girls and mom and dad and bay in third bedroom... Each of them were very close to one another their entire lives because they shared and respected space, sharing, food etc... Thanks for your entire story.. I am so glad you made this video. It gives such a full picture of your journey, and the wonderful end-result. It's so nice to know Bill didn't have to end up working to age 75, especially in such a physically demanding job... Also glad you were able to stop trucking, too. I realize this channel is still "work" (20 - 30 hours a week), but it must feel much nicer, from the comfort of home, and being with Elizabeth. I hadn't been watching KZbin, as often, so I'm just realizing that you have a Cottage. Sounds wonderful! Lastly, the people that have suggested you build a bigger home, just don't seem to understand, what many people DO understand:. Having less home, less items, less bills is SO FREEING! Instead of spending so much time MAINTAINING a bigger lifestyle, you can spend that time/money ENJOYING LIFE / EXPERIENCES/ RELATIONSHIPS! (to paraphrase Elizabeth). Especially, after the age of 50, people want to enjoy life; slow down, a bit. A lady I met, years ago, said, "I am so OVER my house"; meaning: Now that she was in her late-50s, she said she and her husband just wanted to "pick up and go", down the shore, on the weekends. She said, I don't want to spend my weekends maintaining my home! When my kids were young, and I was young, it was different. I was happy to maintain the house.... but those days are over. I am "OVER" my house! I want to enjoy LIFE". Thank you Elizabeth and Bill, for sharing your life story with us, on KZbin. I'm sure many of your past experiences were distressing, at the time they were occurring.... but they've become truly helpful lessons, for many of us.... and again, I'm so glad you're now able to have more freedom to enjoy life and slow down the pace, a bit. Take care.

I am very grateful to you for opening my eyes, to see that I'm doing things wrong and have begun to financially right the boat. I've got a ways to go, but God willing, in another year things will be secure. I don't remember which video it was of yours that caught my eye, but thankful it did, and since then I've grown to just love you both, more and more as time passes. The thing is, what would have happened if Bill was still driving the truck and Elizabeth had the 2nd TIA? You never know when something is going to happen, so don't max out spending and plastic money, because you are setting yourself up to lose if not everything, at least a whole lot. But God gave you a roof, and Bill had the skills to turn it into a home. Jesus was born in a stable, not a palace. Every video you two make, I see God working in your lives, and you being faithful to him, and that is the recipe for success. Success is being true to what God is calling us to do, not being rich. And yet, you are richer by every definition now than you were before. Praise the Lord '08 happened, even if it meant temporary very real hardship.

I too, had my life flipped completely upside down due to the ‘08 crash and fall out. Left Cape Cod after 35 years and am now renovating an 1800’ sq. Ft. Ranch in the Ozarks of MO, that I bought on foreclosure for $9,900!! Due to my financial crash in 2012, much like yours, I had zero credit. The broker found me personal funding and I now, 3 years after the purchase, own it outright. I am slowly rehabbing it, all as I earn the cash as a school bus driver. I am about to start my own channel of my journey. Thank-you for your open and honest video. Loved your video on the mini wood stove! God Bless you both!! I love to hear your story, thank you for sharing. We are 63 now, and own a family business in AZ. 2 years before the crash, my husband kept telling me - this can't last, it's going to blow, so we prepared as best we could. We barely kept our business going, and only because it's an HVAC company in the desert. We gave up our office, my hubby and his brother ran it out of their homes for several years, and hung on by a thread. Many of our friends gave up their homes and moved into their RVs, and had to move out of state to find work. 2008 crash changed lives forever. But I think the fortitude and humility it gave us all made us stronger, and you two are a great inspiration to so many!

I'm so very grateful to have you both in my life...even if it's just on YT :) In many ways, you keep me grounded and when it comes to finances, we all need to take a step back and look at how we're spending God's bounty. My hubby and I got started late in life with purchasing a home so we know we'll never have it paid off. We married in 1997; he retired in 2001 and I retired in 2008. He's 77 and I'm 71. We lost most of our investments in 2008. I'm not pointing fingers, but the truth is, my husband thinks money grows on trees. I'm at fault for not putting my foot down on a lot of his "wants" (like a $5000 shotgun for his hobby!), but I haven't so the blame is also mine. We bought a house 4 years ago that was WAY over our budget, but he wanted it so we got it. We were able to make our mortgage payments, etc. but it left us very little at the end of the month. I became concerned, as we're not getting any younger, that we'd be in a real pickle if something unforeseen came along so I convinced him we needed to "down-size". Last year we did just that and even though we still have a mortgage payment, I'm able to put away every month the difference in the 2 payments. We use a cashback CC for all our purchases and in the last 2 months we've gotten $125 back to add to our savings account. I quit using our debit card because of the insecurity of them. Thanks for your videos and your wisdom. Blessings.

You have freedom. Right now I am in a bad situation. My X is not paying spousal support and I am unable to work. I don't know what Gods will is for me but I know if I lose my home I am going small to tiny next time. I hate the debt I am in. It's stressful to say the least even though I know God has me. It is the unknown I guess and being human. God has always taken care of me. And I know he always will. Please keep me in your prayers as you are in mine. Thank you so much for sharing your life and just what one can do with less. Which is enjoy life, and I believe that is what God intended for us. Spread His word, help others, and enjoy life. Also why do people think you have to have a big house? Or a house at all? What you guys have is perfect. It is a home and that is way more important than a house. Anyone can have a house. I prefer a home.

If you need to, you can talk to a good Christian credit counselor to see if there is anything you can do. I did that, and the solution for me was one I did not foresee at all, but it is exactly what we needed. Just make sure it is solidly Christian counseling, or you may get into an even worse situation. You are right about big house/little home. Always go for a home.

This is about the best video I have ever seen which explains the yoke of debt, and how it will drags people down. We have seen people buy rental houses and then loose them. Bubbles occur every so many years. It seems to be that if you can live in a modest home, work and pay that off, this is the best way to live. Your explanation really discusses why people loose homes- changing economics, renters loosing work and not being able to pay their rents (leaving landlords with mortgages in the lurch), and homes ALWAYS NEEDING COSTLY REPAIRS. I'm sorry you have gone through health and financial pains. I am SO proud of your for your courage and ability to work your way to where you are now- a much much better debt-free place. Hugs and blessings to you both. Thanks!

I love knowing the smaller details...one facebook friend video...to 35,000 sb's, from construction, to truckin, to great videos that show the character of how one...can... deal with those crooked roads that lead you straight through. I also thank the commenter who sparked the thought, because I love hearing Bill & Elizabeth talk it through. Much love from California

Another inspirational video thank you so much. My husband and I just had to declare bankruptcy because we had so much credit and still owed on the house but like you said if anything rocks the boat like me losing my job at 65 long before I had planned forced us to look at everything. My husband was working 3 jobs to try and keep up but it was going nowhere. We are now trying to rebuild our lives and hope we come out as grateful as you both are. We applaud your honesty and now realize we do not need all this stuff we just need to have more experiences and live life to the fullest. Thank you for making people realize that just because you are forced into a situation does not mean you are bad people because bad things happen to good people . Thanks so much and if I had the courage to do a tube channel I would tell our story as well. Maybe someday!

Dear Ones! This has been the meat of encouragement for me and my husband -- we are living tiny in our camper too, as a result of the '08 crash and losing our house. We actually DID become homeless for 8 months. My husband and I are 62 and 60, respectively. I am a retired Suzuki piano, voice and strings instructor, retiring due to health issues, brain-injury. Your recent video on marriage relationship was deeply meaningful to us -- life-changing words of life as we are moving through our 27th year of marriage, dealing with disability issues, too. Our Father, knows what He is doing! We would LOVE to encourage you to consider doing your marriage course (on the book you mentioned) as a video 'study' group! Please pray about this suggestion? Thanks for sharing your lives -- we are somewhat isolated and your videos are such a joy to us! Sharon and Bruce Howarth

Broken Road, I've used that as a quote many times. Great video, Elizabeth and Bill. I was nodding my head throughout. We are working toward being debt free. I love how you live. It must be very freeing to not have debt. We all bought into the same crazy way of life, mortgage this and mortgage that. Although, we started paying off our credit cards every month several years ago, gosh, probably 15 years or so. We use our cards as a 30 day interest free loan, we pay them off in full each month, but we also never charge more than we know we can pay off. Both of our cars are paid off, we paid cash for a used motorhome and once we sell the house, we will be debt free. I can't wait to feel that weight lifted!
