This is what family is all about. Everyone chipping in and getting it done. I imagine Elizabeth was making cold drinks and snacks for her hard working family. That's quite a project for one person to do! You raised a good man Elizabeth and Bill. Barry and Molly are passing this on to their children too💜

Definitely a lot of hard work! We can see the knowledge and building skills being passed on from one generation to the next - three generation are represented. These are incredibly valuable skill sets to be passing on. Bill taught Barry and Barry is teaching his family.

As the kind of cook who always scrapes her bowls, I felt like taking a giant spatula to that wheelbarrow and scrape out every bit of cement each time Barry poured a load, lol! It's so lovely to see family working together! Blessings from Canada (where the footings have to be minimum 4 feet deep, btw. Bit of Canuck trivia, hey? ;-) ).

They had to be 4 feet in Pennsylvania too, where we just moved from. That's where I've got most of my construction experience, and so these 2 foot footers in Virginia seem "cute!"

You got a nice system going there with the people helping you mixing that concrete which makes it really fast for what you have. I used to do additions quite a while back. Sometimes I would run a backhoe to dig the hole for the footer and foundation. I haven't done any in quite a while but I'm currently rebuilding my father-in-law's porch. I got the deck on it just about done and just have a few trim pieces to add. Then I'll begin painting that and finish painting the trim on the rest of the house. I hope you're addition turns out well I know it's much needed.

Doing my own addition & it took my general contractor 2 weeks to get a concrete delivery. Dried in now & a 4 week wait for windows!!!

We usually wet the forms prior to pouring the footer mix. Our footer mix is much stiffer. Good move keeping it wet while it cures. Good Luck!

Loved watching this! I helped my Dad when I was in my 30's when he was pouring footers for his modular home. I did what the Dad was doing in this video. My Dad wasn't well. In 2 different pours, he gave me the leftovers, so I quickly made a square with 2 x 4's & had the fellows pour so we would have a concrete deck in front of our door. I used a 2 x4 to smooth it. Then I inscribed John 3:16 at the entrance in the concrete. I was always so proud of that. The husbands were all working & I was the only one available. Lord Jesus bless you & your family!
