I love animals. My number one is dogs. So just reading "Dog Rushed to Vet!" I was in tears for Smokey. All prayers for Smokey, Grandpa, and Grandma.

Just some positive information for Grandma, Grandpa and everyone. I had a dog that was rescued and she had a tick borne disease. She had the stumbling around and seizures occasionally also. She lived to be a healthy old dog of 16 years. I hope that this gives you a positive outlook if this is what it ends up being. Sending lots of love and prayers that Smokey and Grandpa make it through this difficult situation and that you guys get a firm diagnosis soon.

Has Smokey been checked for tick borne diseases? Sometimes UTIs are diagnosed, but aren’t the root cause of the problem. (Personally, was diagnosed with a UTI a week after Christmas and am now recovering from exploratory laparoscopic surgery.) My husband is a retired family doctor and has seen and diagnosed many cases of tick borne diseases. These diseases are far teaching into many systems of the body, mammals of all types, and can cause considerable problems. There are also seizures called petite mal that are almost imperceptible to most observers, but to a trained professional, the patient can appear to be blind and/or deaf during the seizure. Seizures aren’t always violent shaking. Our dig takes monthly heart worm preventative and a flea and tick preventative every 3 months. I hope Smokey is on these medications. Antibiotics that treat UTIs can also be used on other infections, i.e., tick borne infections. Diazepam is Valium, a common initial treatment to relax the body after a seizure.

LeaAnn, so happy that you knew what was happening. As a nurse that has worked my entire LPN career with geriatrics, your experience from your Mom certainly was totally on target. Even the smallest change is what I always watched, as a first sample could well be negative, but wait another day or 2 and yep UTI was positive. I just hope Smokey did not turn septic because of the infection. Seizures can happen, and also from the medication. GOD BLESS, may HIS grace and healing be given to our beautiful Smokey. I used to work in a psychiatric clinic and we serviced the local rehab/retirement center. Whenever the nurses called regarding a resident’s disorientation, etc the first thing that I had to ask was if they had checked for UTI. Definitely a symptom.

That siren sounds like they are doing a monthly test of the tornado siren. Around here they test ours on the 1st Wednesday of the month. My Mom had dementia and she would get many UTI'S and her Dementia would get worse and she would get wobbly and fall and she hit her head many times. Once they had to bind her to a board and keep her head from moving for 48 hours or she would bleed to death. She finally died from Covid.❤❤❤❤

Grandpa Adler, I just was in the hospital with an UTI. It was so bad that I ended up in ICU with it and Ketoacidosis. I was so confused and unstable on my feet. I was put on Fall Risk and was not allowed out of bed without having a nurse or aide to walk with me. Believe me, it took awhile to get over it. I hope Smokey has that versus any of the bad stuff that it could be. You love your animals and treat them like your children. Take care and I will be praying for you all and Smokey. I was weak as a kitten and when I got up to walk, I walked with my feet apart to make myself more stable. It was a long road convalescing. My heart goes out to you Grandpa. You were so concerned about Smokey, it made me cry. Those furry friends mean so much to us. Be blessed.

Just a thought...when my daughter was a toddler, she kept getting UTI after UTI. Her pediatrician office had 3 different doctors. The doctor we usually saw kept treating her for the UTI. On one visit we saw one of the other Doctors who found that the infection had actually moved to the kidney. Once we treated that, she was perfectly fine 🙂 I don't know if it works the same in animals but I thought it was worth a mention considering you're not sure how long she's actually had this.
