Aerial video of the destruction brought by Hurricane Harvey overnight. Many homes and businesses suffered major to total destruction due to the high winds.

I think the media is focusing on further inland--this was by the ocean, where the storm surge caused major damage. The average building that didn't get hit by flooding is probably going to be looking at torn siding, roof shingles, broken windows, and so on.

Mike Let it go Mike. She obviously has never lived in the path of a hurricane. Nothing at all moves for hours or even days until the winds fall to a safe level. Until then no emergency aid, rebuilding or TV cameras begin. Everyone is stuck in a safe place (hopefully). No 911, no electricity, no a/c, refridgerators, hot water heaters, cell phone service, internet, nothing. People who haven't experienced the total loss of all services and governance will never understand. You can tell who they are because they're the first to point fingers at people with no way to help if they wanted.

Please if you can, use your drone to video the area just around cape Valero, club lake drive. All of those roads are blocked. Many of us have our homes and livestock still there. Erin, these folks had only 1.5 days notice, to get stuff boarded up, get out or get prepared. No, of course they did not get "valuables" out. This storm went from Tropical Storm to Cat 4 in about 36 hours and made landfall.

At 4:18 you have a distance shot of the small line of docks to the North of the dry stack. I have a sail boat on the next to the last dock from the perspective of the 4:18 shot. Do you have a better or direct overhead view of those docks? Thank you and be careful out there.

Was it mobile homes or travel trailers. I am at a total loss why anybody that isn't incapacitated would leave an Rv or a running vehicle in the path of a Hurricane in a low lying area or on a beach front. If i was an insurance company I would not pay. Sounds like insurance fraud to me.

BlueCat Blu It's vital to keep the wind out of the house. One broken window or door blown open can cause a chain reaction of small failures to a structure. Also, newer homes were built to better hurricane standards. One may be a year old, the destroyed one 30 years old. $2 hurricane straps can make all the difference.

I have poured over every aerial shot of Rockport and found nothing yet. Seems your community is too far north. If it consoles you, the media focus on the worst damage, after all they want to portray the devastation as it sells stories in the news. A lot of prefab homes are damaged but together. I believe that this is f1 tornado damage when one street is fine and the next is flattened. My boyhood home is a block from the beach and does not appear to have even a scratch. I hope they got lucky too :)

I remember the damage in Tampa many years ago was mostly caused by tornados. All it took was for one to break apart a building then the regular 120 mile per hour wind tossed that building into another and into another. Maybe that is why the damage paths look like lines here. Lots of other homes and buildings built the same way as those trashed seem to be standing. It is one thing to stand out in 130 MPH wind and rain, it is another to be smashed by a tree flying at 90mph.

They're beach houses. You can't make them too heavy. Also, there are photos of brick structures that are destroyed.

There were brick buildings destroyed, and there are also plenty of wood frame houses that did well. Wood frame construction done correctly can withstand tremendous wind loads as long as all windows are boarded up and the plywood sheathing is fastened correctly to the roof and wall joists.

@mrairbender32 "90%" [ Sources Needed ] Actually the construction is quite the opposite. Here in Florida (as one example), the vast majority of the homes are cinderblock. Wood walls are often reserved for interior use. We also have shingles rated for high winds. Beach houses are notoriously unsafe. The ground in which they are built is not able to support something made of mostly brick or concrete. It's not really any surprised their lightweight composition was wiped out.
