Justin and Zevi have such great chemistry. Their personalities complement each other very well, imo. I really enjoy watching them interact. And of course it goes without saying that the Zohar is just fascinating! It's wonderful to have this "guided tour" and I can't imagine better guides.

Just gained more knowledge for my brain, so I will give you three points that Gave me joy. 1. Is about the word around, I felt a bit disturbed about it, I couldn't grasp that part ... But after teacher Zevi give his insight of the conversation with your friend about about the topic, 0009 being a child has not come to that time yet, It became clear to me then, a child is pure. Great Insight. 2. Yanuka intelligence that comes with a lot of humor. Good to see he had personality. 3. After he was asked of his father, how he was stricken with Grief inwardly, he felt the blow but just when he felt his body tremble, he rejected it snapped out of it fast, remembers Grace. When we have loss not to stay in the grievance but to press on for God is with us. . Thank You teachers.

This was fascinating for me, since I've heard you talk _about_ the Zohar many times, but I think this is the first time I've ever heard any of the text itself. It didn't take long after getting into the story of the Yanuka for my mind to go to the Gospel story of the 12 year old Jesus talking to the scholars in the Temple - or even moreso, the dangerous but wise schoolboy Jesus in the Infancy Narratives of Thomas. I assumed that was just the influence of all those years of Christian education causing me to make that connection, but I was glad to hear that other people saw that too 😄

This is some wild stuff. The idea of the incredibly precocious child infallibly laying down God's law to all around him is inherently both funny and frightening. There's a lot here I struggle to understand, but the bits I do are fascinating. Thanks Justin and Zevi.

hi! ty for having such an interesting and informative channel! so, i got into backyard gardening and chickens during the pandemic. and i bought some fruit bearing trees and in doing research i found out that it takes 3 years for an adolescent tree to fruit! i heard first year their a grower, the second -a shower-they blossom only, then after the third year they will fruit but they will be optimal. 4th year you can pick.

Incredible! The excursus on fragrances was amazing. The edenic fragrance of mitzvot! Is this related to the kabbalistic interest in the Song of Songs? R. Ezra ben Solomon does a lot with fragrance in his commentary as well. Also, is there any crosspollination with Christian theologies of revelatory smell? A friend told me about this book that made waves in Syriac studies. Scenting Salvation by Susan Harvey

This whole passage seems like it could be slotted into Apuleius' Metamorphosis with some adjustments. The wandering sages motif, the divine sexual metaphors, the subversion of who is wise, and distinct humor of the passage are all telling. I meant to catch this live, but I had something come up. Maybe next week. Thanks to you both for this amazing discussion!

I got some Freud and Thus Spake Zarathurstra feels from this. Also, once was under the mistaken view that Judiasm, Islam, and Christianity were the same. Now, im quite aware they are not monolithic blocks and all have their own quirks and subquirks. Some of those Jewish quirks (about faith, belief, as examples) actually are quite appealing to me. Is there a basic Jewish Studies resource you could recommend me?

Thank you Just and Zevi for this and looking forward to the rest! I was wondering if there are two esoteric symbols of this reading that might be seen at a different angle? For instance, what if the hand that they are talking about is nothing but the Human body, with the four digits being the arms and legs and the middle finger, the most important finger is the backbone? In addition, we have Jacob's "central bar" with the two at either side is almost an exact description of what in India would be called the Sushumna(central spinal column/channel), and at either sides are the Ida(male/upwards energy) and Pingala(female/downwards energy) currents along the spine, like Jacob's "ladder" (backbone with vertebrae) and the "angels" (ida/pingala currents) going up and down. And then there is the "arousal" of the energy that comes up the spine, not all at once but incrementally, like an "erection" up the spinal column into "the bridal chamber" (the head/skull) where it meets/touches the Shekinah. At this moment of "connection" is where "the cup(vessel/body) overfloweth" with ineffable bliss of God. Consequently this is the same idea behind the phrase "take up your cross" as it signifies the two poles meeting in a 2 dimensional image. Looking at the 2 dimensional Ank, I see the same imagery depicting the same connective idea. The oval on top of the Tau cross is the human head from a "bird's eye view" that also consequently looks like the shape of a vagina. I am sharing this because I have direct experience in my meditations with this phenomenon, and it is the most incredible experience I have ever experienced. I can understand the sexual connotations behind these ideas because the experience is truly "orgasmic". Anyways, I think that the problem why mystics kind of say the same thing but also don't, is because they are tapping into the same thing, but their environment spins it out their own particular way. I would love to have a further chat with you about this if you're interested. Thanks again for such great content.

Excellent chevruta guys i was thinking how the Yanuka's immaturity is not just in his sexual development but also his simple reductionist black and white view of the world- that he cant associate with those who haven't said shema, that he can't smell the nuance of being within a different mitzvah, his strong position on impurity, etc

I don't think that the girl is real. I think the girl is a vision. I'd venture to say, she's a familiar. And Zevi's observation is really interesting. The word to suckle sounds like John Dee's Madimi. Spirits always complain of the smells of humans.

I want him to occupy himself with Torah, and so when I meet a rabbi on my travels, I try to act as his donkey-driver. Today I thought I would hear some novel Torah insights, but I heard nothing!""
