The Origins of the Klippot / Qliphoth & Sitra Achra in the Zohar - Kabbalah on the Problem of Evil

The Kabbalah has one of the most daring solutions for the "problem of evil" - it finds the origin of evil as an essential aspect of Divine Emanation and thus Creation itself. In this episode I explore the origins of the Sitra Achra (the Other Side), the inverse of the Divine Sefirot, and the demonic Klippot / Qliphoth (shells of husks) which are said to inhabit this realm.

Please forgive my confusion Dr. Sledge but what did you mean at 15:30 about the process being described in Zohar volume 2 and so on and so fourth? I have a pdf of the Zohar but can't seem to find the indicators for the place in the text that your talking about. Could you clear this up for me?

I like what Watts said about holy people, they are beyond dualistic concepts because they integrated both aspects which scares the s*** out of other people who strive to be only good. The shadow has to be integrated, you have to be both a lion and a lamb, ruthless and kind. Penetrate all dharmas and reveal them all to be formless.

@@Arginne non duality sees cause and effect as one, that is its subjects are one with causality, there's no separation. Makes sense - or rather, makes sense of a college class I took on the origins of the Bible in which the professor, a Catholic priest, noted that in the Old Testament, evil emanated under the control of God (i.e. he sent devils to torment men who did not abide the law). Also does clarify how/why God and Satan essentially wagered over Job. I've since had the impression that "good" and "evil" are subjective and that rather than competing, they provide context and meaning to each other. Very interesting. I follow a different path these days, but I see the world's religions as culturally-specific interpretations of the same concepts, so it still adds a piece to the puzzle.

I think Evil is just one pole of that thing we call Good. Kind of like the absolute temperature scale. You can't ever reach absolute zero on the Kelvin scale but there is also no absolute heat. That would be the creation of the universe. Things being cold means there are vibrating very slowly, what is it, electrons are not excited, and atoms are not moving much. They are kind of still. When something moves very quickly, it appears to be still also. The two ends meet at some point but there is no connection between the two ends, it's just their movement in their respective direction toward infinity is approaching the same state, i.e, Good and Evil seem to be moving toward the same state, which is ultimately Good.

While Leviathan (I think?) wasn't given a cosmogonical role until Kabbalah, and has mythological origins in Lotan (Syro-Canaanite) rather than Tiamat (Mesopotamian), the Enuma Elish story was still written about as late as the 6th C. AD (for example, Damascius), and thus it is quite possible that the idea of chaoskampf-type monsters were "in the wheelhouse" for Jews of the Near East, and Leviathan happened to be the best scriptural character to fit that role. (It seems not entirely crazy to speculate that these communities inherited some cosmological ideas from Babylon as well as the demonology, and these possibly may have persisted in various oral/literary forms for a few centuries afterwards until they were consolidated within Kabbalah).

I often think the Qlippoth are a necessary path of return, foiling all manifestations Malkuth, allowing all return to Kether. The Qlippoth also allow for differentiation so that space-time itself may come to be. Azoth is unified, and the One is Infinite. In order to achieve infinity, differentiation must be produced, and thus the perspective of “evil” must be created to achieve manifesting the infinite. All things must come to pass, infinitely, and the One bears all perspectives, creating and partaking of the Venom/Narcotic/Opium of God, Samael to exist as any independent being, and then return to Oneness.

@conorhale1269

@@ponyboycurtis3795 If you have an interest in Qlippothic magick, I recommend Gilles De Laval’s works. Two books in particular, Fosforos (by a different author) and Sacerdotium Umbrae Mortis are helpful in understanding the Qlippoth. Study of Aghora and the Vama Marga are also beneficial. The interior principle I attempted to divulge here is that Totality is Unified, revealed in the Kabbalistic Equation 0=1. The illusion of a dipole, of individuality, of the ego, and the individuated soul must be produced via the illusion of opposition and separation from Totality. This is granted by the existence of the Qlippoth, allowing for positive virtue to be transmuted into negative forms, Being, Will, and Love transmuted into the illusion of Enmity and evil forces. One may declare a sense of dislike and negative polarization from something else in a gradient of individual experience. You may say “my name is this, I am this, I am not this, I hate or dislike this”, and may act contrary to your own inner virtues via the existence of ultimate Opposition. This devouring multitude formed by the Qlippoth also consumes the individual soul as the Spirit “returns” to the Supernals across the Abyss of Daath. Relinquishment of individual, unenlightened desire, collapse of self, confrontation with one’s Shadow, and acceptance of utter death in the moment of terminus allows for experience of the Supernal nature. No individuated soul may pass the test of Crossing the Abyss, the self must be relinquished to the Self. To know Daath is to experience Death, which ultimately does not foil Spirit, but reveals and frees it. The sacrifice of Odin upon the World Tree is a good mythological representation of this sacrifice. These powers of “evil” allow the One that manifests to manifest in a constantly reconfiguring series of manifestations across an infinite span, and ultimately foiling those manifestations so that they return to pure Being. All of these individuated manifestations are representations of the One, given the illusion of separation by the illusory dipole. In the concept of manifested time and space, the One is in a state of observation and experience of Itself. It creates its subjective and objective perspectives for the sake of its own nature, and through separation, allows for individual perspectives and the framing referent of subjective experience. An individual conscious being then, via “separation”, may have an understanding of time, movement of objects, space, distance, and change, in individuation, because it experiences separation from other things and Totality, and may recognize individual forms and identities. Egyptian creation myths also help in understanding this formation of manifested time and space. Atum creating the first other gods amidst the waters of Nun as he exists upon the Ben Ben, forms exterior perspectives from his own. Apep is formed the moment Being is formed in Atum upon the Ben Ben. Apep then is constantly trying to destroy the Gods, manifest reality, and bring all to Oneness in Nun, without any detail of individuation. Apep never thwarts Being, but is a constant mechanism of evil opposition that brings all back to that starting place. In the book and practice of Sacerdotium Umbrae Mortis, there is something known as the Undecagrammaton, the Devouring Command, the anti-Yahweh. This anti-Logos elucidates the function of the Qlippoth very well.

@@conorhale1269 many people that attempt at crossing the abyss though to Da"ath and the hidden knowledge therein do go insane do they not? I was only kidding about you being insane by the way, what I really meant is that the depth in which you spoke in your comment I think is way too far advanced for most to understand, thank you for the book recommendations as I"ll be honest the only few authors I know of who I have read their stuff on Qlip"othic majick and night side Qabbalah etc are Alistair Crowley in the Vision and The Voice, several books by Thomas Karlsson and one by EA Koetting so I'm sure you know much more than I do on the subject matter but most of what I have read comes with a huge warning about trying to work with the Qlipoth as they don't offer anything positive but only wish to harm us... Would the Undecagrammaton be the polar opposite and negative side to the Yahweh ~ Tetragrammaton?I think my learning of the Egyptian creation myths are different to yours as mine is that the Nine or the Ennead were spawned by the Four Ogdoad who were two female and two male and all the others like Osiris, Nepthys, ISIS, Set etc all came from them... A lot of the space time stuff reminds me a lot of the Gnostic ideas of the remote God and then the demiurge Yaldabaoth and his mother Sophia spawning him out of jealousy and separation etc. Very interesting.. I understand your point in evil being a kind of necessary balancing out kind of thing... Is Jesus Christ's sacrifice for humans not a good example like Odins? I have noticed lots of occultists who like the dark occult don't like the Christ for some reason.. Is he a threat to the dark side maybe?
@conorhale1269
@conorhale1269 Жыл бұрын
@@ponyboycurtis3795 You’re quite right on the nature of the Eighfold Ogdoad, and there is an intense amount of variation in Egyptian creation myths. I think I remember them as the frog-headed four gods and goddesses of Primordial Nun. I list one of Atum as the first and Primordial deity here for its simplicity towards understanding Apep/Apophis and a certain quality of all-destruction towards unity. There are other versions listing Amun as the first deity giving rise to Apep as a consequence of manifest existence coming to be, and others with Amun-Ra as the solar deity and the hidden one were combined. The warnings against authentic Qlippothic magick are genuine and valuable, not just in the potential quality of going mad, but in other various detriments to one’s health or wellbeing. Moral health and character may degrade along with physical health. The Qlippoth are the falling bark from the Tree of Life, forms devouring, destroying, and wasting away. They hold no value without the Sephiroth. This is where, if you would approach experience of the Abyss and the Qlippoth, know that the nature of Spirit, the very center of your Being, ultimately prevails. It is a seat of transcendental virtue. In Christian Theurgy, this transcendental quality may be likened to the “Light that shines in the Darkness, and the Darkness has not overcome it” in Genesis. In Eastern concepts, it is the force behind the dance and stillness of Shiva and Shakti, the inner soul of Brahma, experienced in the Samadhi of the practitioner. This essence has no adequate words of description, and it underlies all things. In relinquishing one’s self to Self, you are trusting in that innermost recess of consciousness, of Being, and allowing oneself to be unmade. It’s a very narrow tightrope to walk, and the Qlippoth may assail the practitioner in cruel and strange ways. Loss of identity and of all you hold dear as an individual is a risk. After Crossing the Abyss, if you succeed while living, there is a long period of time spent in rebalancing, in coming back together. This period is difficult in itself. Humility, truth, will, and love reform the individual, balanced in mercy and severity. A freedom and sovereignty is understood, and a humility blossoms in recognizing the Divinity in all things. Everywhere you look is another expression of unified Totality, and the world takes on a living spirit to your eyes. Some call this Binah consciousness, with the wisdom of Chokmah, enlivened by the crown of Kether emanating from Ain Soph Aur, the incomprehensible Root in The Void. We all return to the stage of The Fool in the tarot at this point, and the endless path of the Sorcerer is writ anew. This period is likened to knowledge of one’s Holy Guardian Angel. And don’t worry on the insane comment, you’re okay, I take no offense. I enjoy discourse on the topic, and saw this as an opportunity towards a greater conversation. You didn’t disappoint. Another book recommendation would be Sefer Yeroch Ruachot, the Explicit Name of Satan Expounding the Mysteries of The Moon. Atman is Brahman, Thou Arte Lord. Good luck on your journey!

@@conorhale1269 wow I was just going to mention The Knowledge and Conversation with Your Holy Guardian Angel and that ritual which is of course more Gnostic in nature but very relatable also there are some Enochian rituals that deal with some similar things. Its about integrating it into unity and having a healthy balance of ego and spirit. What you said about the physical damage and mental damage and having to rebuild oneself is very much the same as warnings I have had yes.. Thank you sir

Try "Bill Duvedack" he was a diamond in the rough in regard to the authors mentioned, with which I totally agree. Feels like theirs 100 Charlatans to 1 honest seeker. Another reason why your channel is valued so much 🙏✌

Our Shadow can never be left behind so we must face it, face ourselves by doing the shadow work and supported by the creator. I appreciate your delivery for it helps me in my limited experience of the subject matter. You are an educator and the information is not forced by doctrine, makes for a pleasant experience and retention the subject matter. I have 24 to 36 hrs of memory due to a head injury and have rebuilt myself by searching for those who deliver information in this way. Many thanks and good blessings.

In a way I can also see the "mainstream" emanations and the Sitra Achra as being simply necessary counterbalances, as in while the source is One, a singularity, the manifestations of that unity is represented as unions of opposites, Yin-yang, matter-antimatter, positive and negative, or like Vishnu the preserver and Shiva the destroyer united in the unity of Brahma, or the gnostic pairs of aeons

Thank you again! This presentation was so clarifying and a deeply useful introduction and pathway through the conceptual/textual labyrinth of these concept/realities. Perhaps we are drawn to these metaphors ( possibly actual in the dimensions we can't see) not only for our attraction to "the dark side" but also because the shells/husks/ knots are such graphic, textured, concrete embodiments of a dynamic. Noticed that the square diagram nested Sephirot look a lot like those Book of Jeu diagrams.

YOU. YOU, sir, are Very Highly Enriched Gnosis. And a scholar of the finest. I'm binging your productions and racking up study points like it's the end of campaign. For reasons synchronous, and asynchronous. Anecdotically, I'll say, If I ever have a say in a metal band, I'll consider your suggestion in that other video, then I'll be fearful, then I'll consider, etc..

it's getting late, and i got this on my watch later list, but i'd just like to say how excited i am to watch this. I love learning more about what inspired certain things in the video games i love to play. All the videos so far came to me thanks to the connection. Alchemy, it's something i got highly interested in after people figured out Hidetaka Miyazaki (the creative director of dark souls and elden ring) has been highly inspired by the alchemical concepts. Lilith, that character alone interests me for many reasons, just her intrigue alone, but also her connection to Diablo. And now Qiphtoth, that appeared Devil May Cry V, which in itself is a big play on Dante's divine comedy and abrahamic, mostly chrisitan themes as well.

This upload was exciting. I think this aspect of these philosophies are very well(ish) fleshed out. In my studying this, I found that as a singular idea the Qliphoth doesn’t make that much sense but when applying other philosophies/lore to it it is surprisingly detailed down to its bare minerals. The concept of separating the physical and the soul is first found in the Emerald Tablets (Halls of Amenti). I think it’s interesting to then look at the presiding devil of a particular Qlipha and you will more than likely get something to the effect of “they will teach man mathematics, science, teach man politics, invisibility, find hidden treasures, give control over animals, teach metal work, etc…” just to realize that all of these are physical and not one will have in their description that they will help you realize an aspect of your inner self (aside from LHP magic) because that’s what the Sephiroth does. And it is through the Sephiroth, ultimately the Ain Soph Aur, we able to fill these vessels. This gives man the aptitude to host good and evil in one vessel which is perfectly illustrated with the overlapping of Malkuth and Nehemoth. When it gets to some of the more modern takes on these philosophies fossils of these prominent ideas are still found but easily looked over due to a embarrassingly severe lack of detail (possibly purposeful). Cornelius Agrippa’s writings on above and below are so amazing. Idk if you have done a video on that or not. Thomas Karlsson, Robert Fludd, Julius Evola, Samael Aun Weor, and even Isaac Newton have all had some very profound thoughts on all of this. I love love love all your videos 🙏

So, you're saying that both the Qlipha and the Sephiroth are necessary for the evolution of man?
@jackoatz
@jackoatz Жыл бұрын
@@Cavirex it’s a lot to get into and it also depends on what philosophy you’re looking at. But as it’s pointed out even in this video both sides generally >need< to be acknowledged to some extent.

I feel like the idea of evil as dangerous but still something people have to acknowledge and have a relationship with maps onto human experience better than the kind of combative binary of Good vs. Evil. To me it also raises the question of whether I can fully understand what goodness is if I struggle to come to grips with evil.

Every time I watch one of your videos, it makes me want to learn Hebrew. I feel it is such a disservice to not be able to truly read the holy texts in their original tongue. I’m not sure how long it will take but I vow to learn it to the best of my abilities and hopefully find great teachers along the way to help before I leave this existence ❤
