Good to see Livewire dropping the Softail clamshells and moving on to the better equipment off the Sportster S and Pan America. I'm also pumped for an American electric bike under 20 grand.

I had my Fat Bob in for a tire change yesterday and the dealer asked if I wanted to rip around on a Energica Eva Ribelle while waiting and oh my god I was giggling. Any doubts I had about EV bikes went out the window. If I could have one as a secondary bike I totally would.

I’ll maybe consider when range hits something that gets me to and from work with the ability to go and grab lunch as well. Battery technology still has a ways to go imo. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I own 5 motorcycles, including a Harley and a Hayabusa, and I can honest say that I reach for the keys of the Livewire One more than any of them. It’s just crazy torque, fun and it’s super reliable. So I might need to get one of these guys too.

Fun you've got to ride this one as well. Crazy torque numbers but I can imagine it being a lot of fun and weird at the same time since your left side does nothing and is just along for the ride, lol. 😆

Love it! I drive a 2021 Tesla M3 SR+, and it is awesome! I ride a 2020 Scout, and it is amazingly fun! I’m heading to my Harley dealer in Sacramento and pray they have a Livewire to test ride.

The problem with Tesla is the huge value loss over time. 75k 2019 Model 3 Performance is only worth around 32k in Europe in 2023 36k MG4 Xpower still does 0-60 in 3.77 seconds and costs half the price. A 75k 2019 Porsche Cayman is still worth over 60k in 2023. A 90k Porsche 718 Spyder or GT4 is now worth 130k in 2023. Tesla very bad value keeping.

Hi 👋, Blockheads, that was electrifying, 😂, with nearly 60 years I’ve been on a bike as I was 10-11 years old when I first started riding, I think personally my head is still fixed on changing gear and I think it will be difficult to change my ways , And properly most people of my age, we have been into radio controlled electric cars, trucks and whatever, then gone over to IC RADIO, CONTROL, CARS, ET CETERA BOATS, THERE’S NOTHING LIKE THE THUMPING OF A NICE BIG ENGINE , 😂 . electric motors last basically forever. The batteries are the things that will wear out, but its generally on par with or longer than a long engine lifespan.

Yea I guess I could do that, I’d buy it for my Harley collection. I do love the looks of the delmar compared to the live wire 1. I loved the price also but you guys didn’t give any charging info on it. I don’t know if you can just plug it in or do you have to have a special charging station.

For EV bikes : 8k Surron Ultra Bee (74 miles range 120km) weighs 188lbs (85kg). 10k Surron Storm Bee (62 miles range/ 100 kilometers) weighs 286lbs (130kg) over any 15k to 30k Harley EV Livewire bike (similar range) as a commuter bike and city bike. For over 20k i would take a Energica (21.5 kWh much longer ranger range, quicker, better components and DC fast charging) over any Harley Live Wire (low battery range capacity, no DC fast charging hat any Surron beats for the price).

It's still a range thing, though. The new Energicas will do 400 km on a charge. But you're right...the infrastructure doesn't match the need..........yet.

How is the Livewire charged? Does it need a high output set up or can you use 110 at home?

Both support 110v but just takes a while. Think they’re rated at like 8-12hrs to full on Level1 charging.

How does the battery hold up in the heat? Every summer, if I don't drive my car for a week (coz I'm riding instead) in the 100°F+ Oklahoma weather, the battery dies completely. Would this do something similar?

Lithium batteries are a completely different animal to lead-acid batteries. They are apples and oranges. Batteries, yes, but that's where the similarities end.

I did the Del Mar tour at Seminole HD. Was a really good ride with great info from some of the engineers. I still prefer the LW1 for style but the Del Mar was a lot of fun and has the tech I really liked from the Sportster S.

Would love to see them mock one of their cruisers (i.e. softail) to run electric and have the battery shaped like the engine/ gas tank. Either that or do a softail lineup with engines between 300-750cc. I know it's not a lot of power, but it's enough for the city/backroads/parkway cruises. I think bikes of that magnitude could compete with the Honda Shadow, Yamaha V-Star and Bolt, and the Suzuki Boulevard. Definitely would consider Harleys by then.

Not opposed to anything new, looks like blast, charging station access, range all factors of practicality, however if they sold this as a entry level motorcycle, lets say your local commuter last bike was a moped and jumps on this thing, well I don't need to tell you its going to jump back with nightmarish consequences

Pluse don't forget if it ever get towed away they must set in the yard for a very long time befor you can get them back all evs do bc they need to make sure they don't go up in flames so do think you can just go pick it up

Although I don’t know the cycle specs for the Del Mar, I would imagine it’s similar if not better than the LiveWire one. The LiveWire one is rated to depreciate down to 80% after 1200 cycles (13.6kW of energy expended)- doesn’t mean it will, that’s just according to the manufacturer. So if I ride my LiveWire every single day, and depleted the battery each ride and fully charged it - it would take me 3+ years to depreciate the battery. I’ve owned my LW1 for 2+years and don’t ride nearly that much. Based on my riding style, it would take me 12-15 years to hit 1200 cycles, and I ride quite a bit

Can't wait to test ride the del mar, I just wish it has more range, my Zero SR 14kw can do 155 miles, this should have been at least 150 miles range bike. Also to the people that still talking shit about electric vehicles, I used to do the same, I own a hellcat charger, 392 challenger(sold it), Tesla P, and Zero SR motorcycle, you will never catch up to a performance electric car or bike in the same category, they are super fun(Star wars or Tron feeling, so it has a soul!), almost no maintenance needed, I have solar and I didn't pay for gas, oil etc for more than 2 years! Yes I still love my V8, but using them less and less every month, its also fun to watch the rage on people faces when they keep rolling forward on a red light thinking they will go first, then in 3 seconds I can't even see them in the mirror, later on the next red light they will catch up and I can see how uncomfortable they look, in shock maybe, and they do it again, still thinking they can beat the launch or instant torque of ev's😂, so be cool, It's an American made, fantastic experience, brilliant engineering, and you can always have the best of both worlds! I get it it might not be for you atm, but it's here to stay, and you will always be behind it shifting gears.

@@THEREALZENFORCE I agree, because they lowered the prices multiple times, like they did now with the Model S and X, but the good thing that I wait for a good deal and get my vehicles used like new, like the Zero SR new price for $18k, I bought it with 2200 miles only for $9700, my Tesla price new at the time was $87k, I got it with 15k miles only plus FSD for $39k. Other wise all EV don't hold its value as good this year, specially if you buy them brand new

@@GamesArt86 it's a good thing that customers lost 60 to 80k on a less than 7 years car, only a claim coming from Tesla fanboys who did not pay the full price of a P100D. There si no FSD (level 5 autonomous) on Tesla cars, it s a 7500 USD / euros glorified cruise control

@@GamesArt86 The Zero SR is garbage compared to Energica motorcycles and even more compared to ICE motorcycles for the 18k price (Triumph Speed Triple 1200RS, Bmw S1000R, Aprilia Tuono V1100 base model, Hayabusa Gen 3). My 9k used K1300R ridicules the Zero SR in every way, it's quicker and much faster has 200 miles range per fuel tank, more comfortable for rider and pillion, has electronic suspension and refuels in 1 minute, a used Zero SR will be hard to sell after 10 years of ownership.

The Del Mar is built in a whole new platform (S2 Arrow) that is more efficient. The two bikes are really not comparable as they are made for two different types of riders. Del Mar is made for short urban commutes with lots of time to charge between rides. ELW/LW1 is made for longer trips with more of an emphasis on premium feel and sporty riding. I really do hope they bring the interface and controls from the Del Mar to the LW1 soon. But also would miss the touchscreen on the LW1 for making changes while stopped.

You should ride the Del Mar. Riding them back to back, I preferred the LiveWire One. The riding position, the sound of the gearbox, and stronger brakes were the key reasons I liked the LW1 better. The Del Mar was a bit more "beginner friendly", but wasn't as much fun for me to ride.

Wish they would have gone with a cafe racer style vs a dirt bike/scrambler style for their 2nd Livewire offering. Or even have a bolt on option for tank/tail/clip ons/fairing. As it doesnt require a traditional gas tank I feel that would have been a super easy thing to do. But I am not an engineer so who knows.

Has there been an occurrence of range increased by firmware updates on these motorcycles?

Nothing official. There’s ‘padding’ at the top and low ends of the battery to prevent damage from overcharging and discharging. So you could ‘unlock’ more capacity, but at the expense of battery health. You’d also need a way to access that and have someone super savvy at programming

Wish they would make the Bronx. Harley needs an mt10 kinda bike. Like take this bike but put an engine in it lol it's crazy that Harley jumped from cruiser with engines to naked sport bikes with electric motors lol why can't the Bronx be a thing... I feel like a Harley shaped like this bike but with an engine they can hear, smell and feel, oh and fill up faster than 8+ hours would sell out no question.

184ft lbs, 194ft lbs, +700ft lbs of torque...? I keep hearing all these different numbers of torque from different video reviews. It would be nice to see one of these on a dyno.

After all these years there’s still not a single Livewire on Maui. Harley still hasn’t set up any charging support for them on island. So I’ve never even seen one. Admittedly I’m not comfortable riding around in silence. People don’t see motorcyclists. So to have them not hear me either concerns me. But damn I bet it’s fun riding that thing.

The silent riding thing is awesome....and safer. Instead of relying on everyone else to hear you, it's reversed and now you can hear everyone else. Defense is better than offense when it comes to sharing the roads. I rode ice for 40 years...still have one...but now use my electric as my daily.

I can confirm that as a chronic lanesplitter here in CA where it’s legal, I have had drivers pull aside for me in the rides even without me honking my horn. The headlight is bright and the people do notice you coming in their rearviews. I feel safer on busy roads on the Livewire than my Ducati

If I would design an electric bike I'd lose the rear brake, just do regen on the rear wheel and control the amount with the pedal.

Test rode the ver 1, was different but fun. Id expect the same on the Del Mar, wish it had a bit more range. Would be interested ina long term view of how it holds up

For EV bikes : 8k Surron Ultra Bee (74 miles range 120km) weighs 188lbs (85kg). 10k Surron Storm Bee (62 miles range/ 100 kilometers) weighs 286lbs (130kg) over any 15k to 30k Harley EV Livewire bike (similar range) as a commuter bike and city bike. For over 20k i would take a Energica (21.5 kWh much longer ranger range, quicker, better components and fast charging) over any Harley Live Wire (low battery range capacity, no fast charging hat any Surron beats for the price).

Infrastructure. That's the issue across 95% of the country. Everyone keeps talking about electric cars and bikes but until a system is in place to support them, nationally, electric vehicles will never replace combustion engines.

There are level 2 chargers everywhere, especially the US. Level 2 has a larger (at the moment) footprint than level 3

Look at a map of gas stations, then look at your "everywhere" charging stations. We are nowhere near ready for a switch from fossil fuels.

I ride an ebike right now and love it to death. It made me fully fall in love with electric transportation. I refuse to buy a Tesla because I will not support Musk in any way shape or form (nor would he notice obviously), but e-motorcycles are really tempting to me. Problem is, I need to actually GET my motorcycle license, which for right now I'm holding off on simply because I don't have the money to drop for an e-motorcycle. Like probably so many other people, I first looked at Zero, which they do seem good (nowadays), but the price hurts. Then I looked at the new (as of this comment in late February 2024) Ryvid Anthem that is now shipping. The price is great on those, but it does seem really limited. Then I found LiveWire. Seems to be a mixture of everything I want. Obviously I wish it were cheaper, but I can't do anything about that. For me as well I live alone and am very minimalist, so switching from a car to a motorcycle is almost a no-brainer to me... I really hope one day to have one.

They can use the tesla destination chargers (240v) with a ‘Tesla tap’ adapter, but not the super charger high voltage chargers.

Had a livewire for a while. Good fun but the way I rode it got about 60 miles before flat. Riding at 70 or above kills the battery quick. Utterly useless where I live as there are not great charge points. It’s a fun third or fourth bike for a blip. That’s about it.

60 miles before flat? I have one and the lowest I ever got at the most aggressive riding was like 90 miles in all sport mode. How is 60 miles even possible? Maybe a faulty battery?

That's way better looking bike than OG Livewire. I wonder why they left... left hand free, there is space, put brake leaver there, having foot and hand rear brake leaver is neat.

This could very well be my next bike. I had a BMW C Evolution electric scooter, which had something like 60 hp and a lot of instant torque. I put 23k miles in 2 years I had it until a deer put a premature stop to the fun. I have ridden the first prototype Livewire and the LW1. The LW1 was fantastic but it gave me a nasty neck ache after a short test ride so I decided against getting one. The DelMar seems to have a more laid back riding position. In case you were wondering, I learned on a 1997 Honda Valkyrie, had a HD SuperGlide as my first bike and currently have almost 80k miles on my 2013 BMW K1600GTL. The C Evolution was my favorite bike by far even though all of the other ones were very good bikes.

A bike line HD has so much confidence in they spun it off into a separate company with a foreign partner, primarily so HD's stock is protected should Livewiree fall on its face. A somewhat prophetic decision. Sales down over 50% YOY, they sold less than 70 last quarter. Too expensive and too short range for what they offer, in a package unappealing to most of their existing customers.

The simplicity, reduced maintenance, and performance of EVs are awesome. However, the loss of autonomy from limited range and lack of supporting infrastructure is like HIV/AIDS to automotive freedom and independence.

I hope that they fixed the suspension and handling on this one compared to the livewire1. That bike was fun to ride but I swear it was the worst handling bike I've ever ridden. My road glide handled way better and that's pretty sad for the about of weight difference between them
