What a fantastic band! What a fantastic concert! I love the first 5 Livin' Blues albums. But this band here is quite as good - in their own right. Nicko Christiansen is the heart and soul of blues and boogie.

Alex ! )

I don't think that it is appropriate today to celebrate such a "befrijingsfestival". Nearly all people who survived WWII are dead meanwhile and Holland did not suffer the most, compared with Eastern countries. But on Dutch and British TV (first of all) there's not one day where they won't show WWi+II films and documentary. Instead of showing the historical emnity the whole time, they should try not (!) to let the EU fall apart (like Britain does), but to further normalize and maximize real friend & partnership. I'm German and live in the NL, but with respect, there are still alligations quite sometimes, when it comes argueing about politics and culture. Jesus, I wasn't even born when it happened. Maybe it has something to do with protestantism in both countries: as only God can/will forgive, not Men?

I do think it is very appropriate to celebrate liberation from fascist intruders - now, with Putin devastating Ukraine, even more than ever. The Netherlands were assaulted, colonized, terrorized - traumata like that take at least a hundred years to become "history". I'm a German, too. I love to spend my hollidays in the Netherlands. In 1977-1980 I was called a nazi for minor mistakes (e.g.coming back to the Sleep In too early ... ). But such things happened only like once in a week. What was really great already then were the many many nice people who really were friendly, even to Germans. Since 2014 I spend my hollidays again in the Netherlands, then together with my wife. No one ever called us nazis anymore- which surprised (and delighted) me. I was expecting it to happen still. And - being Germans, we should not forget that we had to be liberated from fascism, too. Forgiveness is nothing to expect, only to hope for.
