Livin' the Wildlife: Colorado's Shiras Moose

The Shiras moose is Colorado's largest big-game animal. The moose is also one of Colorado's biggest conservation success stories. Thanks to Colorado Parks and Wildlife and sportsmen, the once rare Shiras moose is now thriving in Colorado's mountain parks.

Moose aren't native to Colorado? They're naturalized

Colorado had a very transient moose population. Historical records dating back to the 1850s show that moose moved back and forth across the Colorado/Wyoming border. However, there was never a self-sustaining population in Colorado until moose were transplanted here from Utah/Wyoming.
