Six months ago we left London to come and live in Northern Sweden. Many people talk of finding happiness in a simple life or a quiet life, having lived in the sparsely populated Norrland for a little time now we wanted to reflect on our experiences. Now of course the life we lead here is not that 'simple'... we live on the edge of a town, have all the creature comforts of electricity, computers and so forth, but the connection we have with the beautiful nature around us and the sense of accomplishment we have found from working on our own projects here have given us cause for reflection.

What's up everyone, we are Naomi and Jack 👋
We are a young married couple who are all about personal growth.
In summer 2020, amidst a global pandemic, we uprooted our lives in Central London and decided to move to Northern Sweden.
We were fed up of living on top of millions of other people in London, living out of one room in a flat shared with Naomi's parents, all whilst studying, working, creating KZbin content and launching our business.
So we bought a car, packed it full of our belongings, and drove nearly 3000km to Sweden with no idea where we were going to live.
This year we are taking time out of studying Medicine and Law to pursue our business, BEAUTYNOIR, the Afro-Caribbean hair and beauty directory helping women to book beauty better.
So join us as we share and document our journey through film.
We are so pleased to share our journey with you and hope to build a community of people who can support one another and grow together.
Lots of love
Naomi and Jack

What’s up with the thumbs down people??? Why the negativity? Guys I’m a 68 years young subbie from the USA.. I’m extremely proud of y’all, and the thriving spirit you both possess; it’s truly amazing to follow y’all on this beautiful journey, always remember this along the way... your character is who you are; your reputation is other people’s perception of you, but their perception of you is not your reality..with that being said; continue to do whatever makes y’all happy, and United as a couple...happy holidays...

I know what you mean about stress and depression. As a child I lost my dad to suicide, as an adult my mom and sister to cancer, and my baby brother to drug abuse. Finally I found yoga and meditation this helped me to calm my mind and relax me some.yesturday I went to my cancer dr. And she told me my 10yrs.was up cancer free and I no longer had to go to her .I was so happy that my boyfriend and I went out to eat to celebrate, while there my cancer dr. Called said she got my blood test results back and I was having troubles with my liver.well here I am again with terrible news and wondering why me and feeling sad and sorry for myself again .The yoga and meditation has helped some but still very worried. Not sure why I'm telling strangers my troubles but needed to tell someone how I feel and that your not alone .

Thank you Naomi & Jack for this very wonderful video - right up my street! I just wanted to let you know that - I specially saved this video to watch it today on Sunday morning, because it's my day off in England and I just had my breakfast, sitting next to my Christmas tree and watched this video whilst having my breakfast. This journey took me far away from here and all away to you guys, to Sweden and to a snowy and peaceful land, beautiful place of yours. You have no idea how much it means to me to start a wonderful day like this! Now, its time to go outside and enjoy the fresh air and the rest of my day! Thank you Guys for that! Have a lovely day! I am So Happy that the two of you are having a Beautiful Time living in Northern Sweden and thoroughly Enjoying Life. It's Very Important to do so!! Seeing the two of you playing in the snow reminded me of the time when I was your age and a non-located Technician that consistently traveled in our 14 state area from Montana to Pennsylvania. When we went to Northern Michigan in the winter, I fell In Love with the beauty of nature up there, and the environment. Of course things will change down the line, but for the moment, LIVE!!!!! 🥰🥰

You took the thoughts and words right out of my mouth. In my perspective serenity and finding your inner balance can more easily be found were there are not so much distractions. Reading a book inside your flat a rainy day in New York can also be a good thing but generally most of us can't do that. To do us you do. Get another perspective of live. Take a time to breath, not being totally isolated will bring you back as totally different and much stronger human beings. Telling those around you later on in life, what to do when things add up. You don't know what this video done to me.... ❤️

You just have to give up on happiness to find true happiness.. That is something i was told and laughed about until i discovered the true essence of that statement. Give up, give in, drop the chasing for it and it will come to you, stronger, more vivid and like a blessing. I think that you guys are doing the right thing, especially you Jack, to find peace of mind by being out in nature, living where you are, right now, in this moment of life. Be here and now in the moment, don't linger in yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because it is not yet here.. You have found tools to be happy in the moment, like the "pulkabacke" down your driveway! :) You are doing just fine right now. ❤️

It takes time for the mind to relax and also realize it can let go of the anxiety and stress. You've had several y e a r s with anxiety and feeling stress, just a couple of months won't change that. It's ingrained within you. It took me personally 2 years before my mind actually realized I'm not living in a big city anymore. The moment this puzzle piece finally slipped into it's place, is something I still remember vividly. Exactly where I stood. Exactly how this fantastic landscape swallowed me whole. A deep connection to the universe and how utterly small and insignificant I am in the grand scheme of things. It might sound as a negative feeling, but it really is not! It's incredibly humbling and instantly breaks you free from whatever prison of the mind that you've put yourself in.

Jack - Im Swedish myself and I just have to warn you, one of the hardest living in Sweden is not the cold during the winters, its the DARKNESS during the winters. And the more north in Sweden you live the less daylight u get. So take it easy, lack of sunlight is hard mental duress you have to deal with. But on the summer you have the opposite issue, you have no darkness. Its a special place... But what I REALLY recommend you guys do, look up and try and find information about "Aurora Borealis" aka "Northern Lights" I think September is peak month, and you have to travel longer north to be sure to see it, But maybe plan a holiday for next year and go see it. Its worth it.

I actually find the winters worse down here in the middle of sweden. Mosit and damp and dark. The snow really brings out what ligth there is. But winter depression is still definitly a thing, specially with modern indoor jobs

@@borjesvensson8661 - Yha If you work 8 - 16, Its dark when you go to work and its dark when you get home from work. But guessing Naomi and Jack work from home, so they won't run into this issue as much. They prob can take in all the sunlight during the day, then its amazing bright with all the snow, so they might not run into this problem.

oh man that’s great snowcream snow! Little bit of milk, a little sugar, a dash of vanilla extract, and mix in a bowl of soft fluffy snow. Perfect american snack on a snowy afternoon in front of the fire after playing in the snow all morning.

as a Canadian who has spent many pleasurable hours tobogganing ( sledding), the absolute best ride is on a tractor tire inner tube, the second best is a crazy carpet( a plastic mat with hand holes) or a good piece of cardboard. Enjoy that hill

A local favorite is "skrana" (at least we call them that in västerbotten) wich basically is a mattres covered in tarpaulin and a hand rope. Sounds abit like your crasy carpet. The swedish equivalent to a toboggan would be a "pulka". Not the same design but the same idea

In Sweden you usually don’t use snowshoes. It’s a North American thing. In northern Scandinavia you ski. Wide skis, called forest skis, that carry your weight across deep snow. It’s a lot more effective than walking.

@@Jonsson474 I would totally agree for traveling across distance, but for working around their home the snowshoes would keep them from sinking and sliding. My Yowies are from Australia, require no special care and I’ve had them for 20+ years. They have crampons and a hexagonal pattern on the deck to keep me from falling!

You two made me laugh so hard with the fun activities on your snow-covered driveway. Try Langlaufen, you both will enjoy it. I love Langlaufen so much more than skiing. The strong activity and the quietness of your surroundings. You'll love it. Lola is such a sweetheart. You always bring yourself, your attitude, and your troubles where ever you go. If you know you're part of the collective called humanity so many things fall into place.

Happiness to me is discovering a new location where I can enjoy my surroundings 100% at any time of the year. Having lived in UK all my life and in a rural location of Norfolk I yearned to live in the Scottish Highlands. As a photographer all my life, this was to be the ultimate country for me to discover so much more than I could have imagined. I have travelled all over Europe from the cold depths of Norway to the hot climate of the Greek Islands but to me the peace and beauty of my beloved Scotland was fulfilled beyond belief.

To further elaborate, it's amazing how tricked you can be by your own night vision vs a car/truck drivers night vision, you are not so obviously seen by them as you would think! Second, even in daylight, it can be hard to hear a car/truck approaching given that snow mutes most of the engine's sound.

The most important action to prevent traffic injuries when you walk or bicycle is to be SEEN by the drivers. The best way to accomplish that when it is dark is to have a red blinking LED-light blinking that is noted by the drivers as they approach your position. Such a light can be seen at night from far distance and the drivers will be alert because they want to avoid any accident of course. This is how I have avoided traffic incidents on my international bicycle trips sometimes bicycling through the nights. In daylight carry a yellow vest ( a safety vest to be carried in traffic) as You may see on some bicyclists. Bright yellow colour stands out and will alert the drivers. Still, I agree, that as You walk it may be slightly safer to walk against the traffic as that gives You the chance to jump away from an approaching car, if needed, but to make sure to be seen by the drivers is the most efficient and the most NECESSARY safety measure.
