The first Lolla was one of the greatest experiences ever. Corey’s voice live was incredible. So was almost getting crushed when Janes hit the stage. Back when live rock music mattered.

I wish I'd had seen this. I was overseas at the time in Moscow. I did get to see Rollins Band in 94 there.

Did you go see Metallica and Pantera that year in Moscow?

Caught them at Mansfield date in 91’ - a few clips from that show here (but not enough!) None of the clips show how fully nuts we all went. The show got stopped at one point because everyone on the lawn tore up the sod and started hucking it forward until it reached the stage. Band was throwing it back but lawn was destroyed and security or promoter (or both) freaked out. It was epic.

i think some of this is shot in Aug at Great Woods in Mansfield MA. It looks like the venue and Dave Navarro of Janes played w them which is seen towards the end of the vid. I think it's the only time on tour he did.

I definitely recognize a few very short clips from Mansfield, but not enough (dang it!). Place went berserk when Living Color played. Show got stopped due to fans tearing up and throwing lawn sod at each other, until it reached the stage. I’ll never forget that. Band was raging, fans were moshing, sun was setting behind us, casting large shadows on the stage. At one point, I saw what I thought were the shadows of “a swarm of bugs” flying…which became distracting. I turned around expecting to see that swarm of bugs…and instead saw HUGE chunks of sod flying all over er the place! The sod fight kept getting bigger and bigger until pieces started landing in the seating area (I was in the back of it). Eventually sod started landing on the stage. Someone from the band threw sod back into the audience and then the show got shut down. It was awesome.

Also search this title on KZbin: Under Cover Of Darkness Live-Living Colour 1990 Check out the solo.The studio version is just as good. This is a really good example of yet a whole other side of his playing that a lot of people(not saying you) are completely oblivious to seeing as they've probably never heard anything beyond Cult, Glamour Boys, etc.. And of course like any stellar band they always take things to a whole other level in a live situation. So yes absolutely amazing band! Enjoy!

@murderousbastard83- I know you're just trying to be a troll and this is now 4 years old but thought I'd point out that Vernon has 2 back-to-back Grammy’s, has shared the stage with too many musical legends to list and is consistently on anyone’s list of all-time greatest guitarists. From what I can see, you play in a band in your mom’s garage, try really hard to sound smart as you misuse big music theory words, and troll KZbin. GREAT UPLOAD - THANKS HarryPalma!

@itsjusttoomuch1 It was easy to forget they were on that first Lollapalooza tour since they didn't play at every single date and were eventually replaced by Fishbone, I believe.

@dcarr70 Yeah, I remember FB from the '93 lineup, but, I had always been under the assumption they had stood-in for LC in '91. One of the bands from '91 didn't complete the whole tour, right? I had always thought it was LC. The Femmes, maybe?

This was the moment when the British music press turned on them. Crazy.

I saw LC at Lolapalooza in Waterloo Village, NJ in 1991. It was insane. Corey climbed a light tower that must have been 80-100 feet tall and then let out an incredible scream. Anyone see any footage of any of the NJ 1991 shows?

I remember I was there! Remember the torrential rain right before Janes came on? They shined a blue light into audience at the beginning...couldn't even see in front of my face for a little bit the rain was so heavy..but they still played

I know the audio and video don't really match up, but at 3:08, I think Tom Morello got an idea.
@tomhill90665 жыл бұрын
You're right. Morello has talked about several ways Living Colour influenced him and allowed for Rage to exist in the first place.

@fatbackfunk13 жыл бұрын
@murderousbastard83 Well I see what you're saying but the random pentatonic shredding is only a sliver of what this guy is all about. Vernon absolutely knows his instrument inside and out & is more knowledgeable & has much more musical depth (harmonically, melodically, & conceptually) than most guitar players out there today. This example of his soloing does not at all fully represent entirely what his musical vocabulary consists of or what he's capable of. He is truly a brilliant musician.

🤘 very overrated metal band, Vern is an awesome guitarist 😎🎸👍
