Living like an ex pat for a week in a huge urbanization in Spain. The El Raso urbanization was a thriving residential complex from 2002 to 2008 when the housing crisis hit. For more than a decade no further construction occurred, leading to acres of forgotten roads and walkways, decaying properties and overall stagnation in the area. There was also increased crime and burglaries in this community during these years. Having owned a house in this urbanization for years, I am back after more than 10 years to see what living in El Raso is like now and what the future holds. Join me as I become a short term ex pat in the beautiful country of Spain.

There were absolutely no amenities when we moved there in 2003. We found some good restaurants nearby, Budapest, 222. There was a Irish bar but that closed and a not good indian restaurant on site, but no shop, bank, smack bar or drs surgery. We felt isolated as we had been promised so much when we bought eg boulevard by the lake. Then found the line where it was illegal to build more houses due to conservation of the lake. They have now built on this land. Does that make Oasis illegal? We rented out for a couple of years and sold on 2007. We often go back for a meal and see what's new

Thanks for watching and contributing. I came back after a decade after selling in 2012 and was great to see all the recent additions and activity going on. The food choices are a lot better now as well from what I remember. A beautiful area in general, I won't stay away as long this time around 🙂

Loved your video, I have lived in the main town of Guardamar since 2004 and love it here, also within an Urb but a small gated one called El Eden. Haven't been to El Raso for awhile so was amazed to see more built in the last year or so since the last visit there. Thanks for making a great video and your voice is just so relaxed and enjoyable

Well the thing is, Paul, that although we love the sunshine, we can get too much of it sometimes. After eight or nine years here in Lisbon and sweating through the long summers, we are really looking forward to the rain and cool temperatures of the emerald isle. Lol, I can understand that! You will definitely get a break from the blazing sun over here, that's for sure 😄 It's nice to try different climates and countries. I lived in Italy for a short time years ago and loved the contrast.
