I'm really impressed with the versatility of the build in's, and the installed accessories. The screens are great, and I think it's a real advantage to not have to leave the inside of the vehicle to do tasks like meal prep, dining, & showering. That's added convenience in bad weather, and safety in some situations. On maintenence & repairs, Dodge does make a panel van that gets rebadged as Mercedes... the companies are related. The good old Dodge mini-van also get rebranded by Volkswagen. So, it's possible that opens less expensive parts and more reasonable repairs. Check it out. Anyway, I really like this vehicle if it's necessary to give up on the Prius.
@gungadinn
@gungadinn 2 жыл бұрын
Actually the Sprinter van was a Mercedes Benz product that was rebadged as a Dodge/RAM van. IMO, the diesel powered Sprinter is the best of the vans since Ford stopped making the Econoline van. The Econoline is still manufactured, but only as a chassis cab for ambulance, party buses and plumbing type work trucks.

@@gungadinn They are expensive and over priced, expensive to maintain and maintenance cannot be ignored and are not as fuel efficient as the ram promaster or the Ford transit . I agree that it's wonderful to be able to access your living quarters without having to get out of your vehicle. I've had everything from 4x4 truck & camper to 32' Winnebago. I used to pull my 18' toy hauler with a 4x4 Chevy Trail Blazer, and now have 1 ton GMC van to tow it. If I could afford one, I'd choose a Sprinter or Ram conversion with 4x4. I hear the diesel Rams get amazing gas mileage... Whatever the choice, I know you & Camper will have a blast❣️❣️❣️

Means a lot Lyle! We’ve dedicated the last 3-4 years to building a van we would live in ourselves. My dad has been camping for over 35 years and I’ve been camping all my life, so we’ve gone through those problematic issues so you don’t have to! There’s so much people usually don’t see at first glance that can change one’s entire experience: floor insulation, optional blacktank, magnetic insulated shades, magnetic multifunction screen door, patented engineering on the 3-in-1 wing support system, double swivel table, room divider, shower/bath expansion, steel-enforced cabinets, and more! We’re extremely blessed to be a part of others’ van life experiences and can’t wait to show you what else we’ve been up to 🚀🔥

Hey, i ran semis with big sleepers for a long time...like a 10'/12' camper for a sleeper. Those roof fans are awesome for cooling down in warm weather eithout running the a/c. Set them in blowing out and open a window or two or all, and it creates a vacuum thatsucks the air through the cabin and keeps it flowing so itll seem cooler. As far as the shower and conserving water. I only had a 16 gallon tank, i could get 4 showrers out it. Wet yourself entirely, turn off water, soap entirely (liquid soap only ☹️), rinse). Youll really love truck stop showers.

That looks like a very well-designed van. I have to assume it would be easier to live in that than to live in a Prius. I watch camper-van videos sometimes, and a major design decision is whether to have a black tank or not. This van design has one. The alternative is to have a composting toilet. I think for your lifestyle you might do better with the composting toilet; it allows you to go out into the middle of nowhere for longer before you are forced to return to civilization. When the black tank is full, you have to deal with it, and (according to videos I have watched) dumping the black tank is not a pleasant chore. This is all theoretical to me and you probably already know about it. Anything other than a Prius will use more fuel and cost more to run, but should be easier to live in. I hope you find the perfect solution for you.
@MichaelWilliams-ro9bm

We have a natures head composting toilet, and it is a pain in the ass. Her black tank would last for weeks. We’re getting rid of the composting toilet and going with our other option. A thetford porta potti. It’ll last three weeks before dumping. But the amount of batteries in that van are insane!

The alternator is not what determines whether you can charge batteries at any particular RPM, it's a simple electricity generator that works at any speed. The voltage regulator however adjusts the electrical output so it remains constant depending on demand. Older vehicles with less efficient systems that were running multiple things like the radio and headlights delivered less voltage when you idled like at a stop light, and you would notice things like the headlights and instrument panel dimming. So of course you can charge the batteries on idle, it doesn't make a difference.

That little bar that slides back and forth at the neck of the shower head is to shut the water off so you don't have to turn off and readjust the temperature when you turn it back on.

The only problem with the Sprinter vans is all those parts are MERCEDES... and the cost of parts and repairs is very high. I think I would go with a Ford Transit van before I even considered a Sprinter van. The Fords are very reliable and the parts and repairs are reasonable.

@@rodmcintire7319 Yeah I think her idea of the Toyota minivan was a really good idea, and if she needs or wants more space than that she should look at the Ford Transit Vans as there are many different sizes of them.

there is a button on the outdoor shower handle right below the shower head. it stops the water flow. you can wet your hair or body push the button to stop the water, lather up or soap up, and then push the button the other way to start the water back up. it helps to save water and let’s you keep your temp settings

You need to get a couple of solar shower bags and set them on the dash while you're driving. I fold up a solar blanket and lay the bags on top of them on the passenger side of the dash. That way you can have extra warm water when you stop.

A friend of ours has this van and has put 100s of thousands of miles on it traveling the US...a really nice van if you can afford it. They ain't cheap, but at this point it's probably cheaper than buying a house. And since it's basically a house on wheels...seems like a win!

Omg I about fainted at the price tag. True Van website says their vans "Starting $190,000+". Good. Lord. That is the price range of many modest houses in low cost regions of the US. The exorbitant price tag is what has been my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd top reasons why I've never bought one. They have to come down in price to make them more widely adopted.
